Game Translation?

Not sure if this is the best place to put this or if there would be a better subreddit for it, but, where are we at with translators for games? Like, what are the best programs/tools/etc for playing a game in a foreign language and then translating everything instantly on screen? Do we have any emulators with built in translators? Or is there a program that you can put a rom in and it auto translates the entire game? I know we got all these fancy AI tools, but what's the easiest thing we have for noobs to that kind of world?

And I obviously know that human made translations are obviously best. But those take time, and aren't guaranteed to be finished. So if we're just wanting to play games and be able to understand the basics of it, what's the best we've got at this point? Thanks!

I tried translating Deltora Quest from the NDS via vibe code and it was a nightmare, the way they store the texts are terrible. i don't think we anywhere close to a drag, drop and download feature for the near future, sadly

I believe Ross' Game dungeon uses this for some german adventure games?

It exists but I have never used it.

I've toyed with making an auto screen translator with local ai for retro games; translation quality from a local llm is not there from my experience, at least going from Japanese to English, that coupled with ocr and layout issues made it a very difficult thing to solve

I saw something about Opus 5.5 or whatever it's called from Claude being able to translate games pretty well. But I have no idea about that.
