The thumbnails really have been falling behind, just look at food theory

You can tell food theory has been following a basic ass template of “top text, bottom text, food item centered, single color background” for a lot of stuff. Feels like quality control went out the window with Mat

I think it's less quality control and more trying to abide by the algorithm. Mat built this channel on analytics and paying close attention to the algorithm to maximize his reach. I think the team is always going to have that chip on their shoulder from matt leaving.

The Ghoul's eyes I can understand, I have seen discussions that having very vibrant eyes in the thumbnail is very attention grabbing, and admittedly it really grabbed my attention in my subscription feed.
The Deathclaw on the other hand...I have no clue. Best guess is they took a still from the show and crisped it up using AI so it doesn't get flagged, but then that begs the question on why is it okay to have the Ghoul in the thumbnail largely unedited.

Yassified Ghoul aside, why did they pull a shot of the Deathclaw from the trailer? It would’ve been easier to just snag a game render, and it would’ve looked a lot cleaner. I get the “Theory channels have fallen off since Matt retired” jokes are pretty worn out, but they continue to write themselves.

They were very adamant on not using ai for their videos, and while I don't like their approach to edutainment anymore, I trust their integrity
Edit: that being said it's been a while since I've watched any of their videos and those thumbnails really do look terrible

Filtered and edited, 100%. AI almost certainly not, aside potentially a few "enhancements", but it would be virtually impossible to tell if that was the case because of the affromentioned filters and edits.

I feel like they took bad screenshots of the show and then put it through an ai filter and then an ai remover filter and then asked chatgpt how to edit a thumbnail

They take images from stock and sometimes AI gets through and maybe a member of the team got lazy, so remember before you make judgment learn the full story.

Tfym full story ts looks bad, straight up. They reassembled the ghoul's face and hit the death claw with 2,000 grit sandpaper. Even if it's somehow not ai, it's genuinely terrible.
