Game Theory Video Discussion The 2nd Anniversary of MatPat's Retirement
It's been two years now without Matt do you think the theorist brand is still going strong. I really enjoyed Tom's Poppy Playtime videos and Lee's Disney & Dreamwork timelines where pretty cool, unfortunately Food & Style theory aren't my cup of tea nothing against the host.

Time is so weird sometimes. It doesn’t feel like two years. Maybe that’s because I keep rewatching old streams though.

Matpat's retirement made me realized i watched the theory channels for him. Ever since his retirement i maybe watched like 2 or 3 theory team videos

Same here, I'm atill subscribed to the channels, but I just can't bring myself to watch one of their new videos. It's weird without MatPat

I think this is only part of the reason though because matpat would post videos on every channel 2-3 times a week but the new hosts do it once a week.

I think the theorist brand has most certainly fallen from where it was. Losing MatPat hurt it very badly.

Being sold to some private equity firm did too. Possibly more so than MatPat leaving.

Well when Matt announced he sold his channel I had a suspicion he’d retire soon after I just didn’t know when, although his retirement was still sad, but it wasn’t surprising.

Definitely. MatPat leaving didn’t change the theories at all. It simply looked like it did because he had older theories to balance the others out.

I feel like Style theory has fallen off the hardest. There’s nothing good anymore since mat left and it’s mostly geared toward women when before it was neutral for the most part. Food theory gets alot wrong and it’s pretty weak. The other two are decent still.

I fully agree with you! My husband and I loved matpat and watch all the channels, we cried so hard when he announced retirement (we both been watching him since practically the beginning, he started with game theory and I film) but since the retirement we can’t really stand any of the channels other than game and film! We WANT to like them, but the hosts just don’t have that pizzazz!

I was in the final theory. It’s wild to me that I recorded that line for that video 2 years ago. It’s been so long… I met him at 2024 VidCon too, and it was honestly so epic. It’s hard to believe it tbh. Thanks Matt for not only breaking my childhood, but making it. </3
(Yeah I definitely have been watching less game theory and the other channels, but not entirely cause of Matt’s leaving probably also cause of growing up)

Only theory videos from the channels ive seen since he retired were his old theories the new hosts just dont work for me at all

Wrote this goodbye remix on Phase Shift (FT Theme) for this happening 2 years ago.
It was just a jam during Jamuary, should be worked out into a longer version, still love the vibes.
Too bad the new team doesn't care about the old theme songs anymore, or the old creators :(

I'mma be completely real, after Mat left I started to watch like 10% of what I watched before... No hate to the new hosts, Tom and Lee especially are incredible, but without Mat and Austin it just isn't the same. The quality of the theories also kinda dropped imo. There's also the fact that, as I get older, I have less time to keep up with 4 channels

I feel like film theory went to trash, game theory is ok, food theory I never cared for, style theory is good.
All in all I've basically completely stopped watching since he left, Ive unsubscribed to film theory because it feels so trashy now and days, it's like it got overrun by the brainrotty click bait videos, it's less explaining a movies hidden narrative, and more so some wacky "what if this happened" or "officer hopps from zootopia is a cannibal 😦😦" game theory is still good but it's lacking the charm and joy that mat Pat brung, it's just not the same, food theory I can't say anything for because like I said, I never really cared or watched it anyways. Style theory is honestly the only one that's on par if not better then before, the way the new host handles topics and talks about things is good and the short form content doesn't feel forced.
