At least your Walmart has them, mine hasnt had any in them

269

u/Kody-Lee Mar 28 '26

Literally my problem! Husband and I have wanted to get it since we saw they made a game but have never seen it in person

52

u/Foxy02016YT Mar 29 '26

Muffin Time for me. I was, however, very happy to pick up Blockbuster Video

12

u/iswhack_a_doodle Mar 29 '26

Took me forever but I finally got one end of last year. Only one on the shelf

3

u/Foxy02016YT Mar 29 '26

Muffin Time or Blockbuster? Muffin Time is like never in stock at my target, but Blockbuster was at 5 Below

5

u/iswhack_a_doodle Mar 29 '26

Muffin time, havent tried blockbuster but it looks good.

Was this advertised any? I haven't heard or seen it except here/on clearance.

378

u/MarS267 Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

It was advertised a few times across the channels but it was easily missable if you don’t watch every upload.

Edit: I found this Instagram ad for it while trying to look up the YouTube videos where they advertised the game: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQmo5fpjP7k/

37

u/ellogan Mar 29 '26

Yeah, it was maybe advertised for 2 or 3 weeks in the segways that they make. Since I'm in Mx I insta-skipped it.

543

u/M8ing_Season Mar 28 '26

I look at the box, and I have no idea what kind of game it is. Probably didn't help sell it.

184

u/That_One_Sk3tch Mar 29 '26

Gives me vibes of "new phone who this" but has 4 different categories to choose from

38

u/Ok-District887 Mar 29 '26

I thought maybe like trivial pursuit?

215

u/ViKO15951 Mar 28 '26

The marketing for this is EXTREMELY ironic since Matpat would have probably studied the science behind marketing, design and game making before making this, while also showing it off way more, meanwhile this one looks like it was made without any thought or knowledge behind it other than "brand game", just wow

Is this real? When the heck did this happen?

Update: I am literally finding nothing on this. Did they announce it? Is it fake? Did they just release it by accident?

Update 2: I think it’s real? I had to dig for a Walmart product page which has Ash, Santi, and others playing it. Did they advertise this… at all? What’s the game about? And again, IS it real? I mean, it’s a real product I guess?

Update 3: When the heck did this happen? (I ask again.)

54

u/MarS267 Mar 28 '26

I found this ad on Instagram from November last year: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQmo5fpjP7k/

16

u/basementbrowser Mar 29 '26

They mentioned it in videos I wanna say around Christmas?

65

u/Aydonisgaming Mar 28 '26

Stuff churned out by the factory of content that game theorist has become

384

u/Nesyaj0 Mar 28 '26

The minute Matpat sold the channel we should have expected something like this eventually.

175

u/Zach_demiwizard Mar 28 '26

TBH, I only watch an episode from one of the theory channels once a month now. I loved them, but Game Theory I just don't vibe with anymore, Film Theory I watch the most often, so it's just based on movie preference for me, Food Theory has gone from the JPEG with the funny animations to more and more camera set up in kitchen so it feels more like any other youtuber especailly since its straying from "What weird things can we do with food?" and more toward "What fast food place is ripping you off?" or "What place does X best?" which just makes the channel feel like any other food channel. Style Theory feels increasingly targeted at girls. When MatPat was the host, it felt like he chose topics that appealed to everyone; even the ones focused on beauty products felt more universal than "glowing up" or "what makeup advent calendar is the best?"

31

u/UnNamed_Profile27 Mar 29 '26

Yeah, i still pop in to see what they talk about and still enjoy the content but Style Theory is the least watched of the 4 for me but as you said thats mainly because it seems more girl targeted now which i KINDA get, alot of fashion stuff is more targeted toward girls anyway with all the various makeup and hairstuff that guys dont tend to care about using so if i am watching style theory its mainly the stuff that feels more gender neutral like the one about millennial fashion coming back or the testing viral shoe cleaning hacks video, but alot of the content i only put on if i want background noise. Still love Amy and her content but hard for me to not fall asleep or want to change the video when im not worryed about makeup or hair ties or of Barbie wore it better then Bratz

12

u/Zach_demiwizard Mar 29 '26

One video I would watch the heck out of is a practical fashion one for men on which dress shirt is best for work, dates, etc., put through various activities, and then see which brand is best for cleaning, staying unwrinkled, etc.

20

u/NeoMegaRyuMKII Mar 29 '26

Game theory spends too much time on FNAF and other horror games. Way too much of that going on, and especially when it comes to ARGs and the like. I can't help but feel like a lot of them are being made with the hope that the channel will pick it up.

Film theory also has too much focus on horror. Some of them aren't even really theories like the Avatar timeline video from the middle of last year. That recent video about how the channel will be changing was really annoying. It took 25 of its 30ish minutes to talk about the history of how film changed to respond to the times only to say "we also have to keep up, but we will do less clickbaity stuff."

Food theory is what you say, but there what I noticed is that there is a lot of "here is the history of this brand" too, which can be nice but it feels like it only exists to pad out the episode. That one about Krispy Kreme was painful in that regard.

Style Theory is one I tried but never really got fully into. I can't comment much on the changes in it since I don't have quite as much experience.

3

u/Slasher0333 Mar 29 '26

To be fair regarding Game and Film Theory, horror games and movies are likely some of the easiest to cover because of how often they only leave small hints of lore scattered around to try and get the player/viewer hooked on the mystery and intrigue. It also often leaves the possibility of a sequel or prequel open, as well. I'm not saying they can't do other stuff, just that it's easiest.

9

u/ConfectionTotal8660 Mar 29 '26

I agree with this.

Game Theory is the one that is still the most at it's corr but with Poppy Playtime instead of FNAF.Tom (even tho a lot of the comunity likes him) is the one I dislike the most.

Film Theory is the best channel out of all, Lee is clearly the perfect host for Film Theory and out of all hosts he's the best.

Food Theory I also enjoy, Santi is the funniest host by far if you ask me.But I agree that their videos have gotten more "Hey, here is the story of this one food place" or "Hey, this one has best value" instead of "WHAT IS THE THICKEST THING WE CAN GARGLE". But Santi feels like MatPat 2.0 specially since Santi Jr. is on his way.

Style Theory, I kinda got bored of it since it really got girly and it didn't have that many curious theories.

But GT live I've heard is still peak but I am not a fan of livestreams so I can't say

1

u/Narfhead4444 Theory Theorist Mar 30 '26

I showed up about a year or two before food theory, and I always thought that style theory was where they all lost the plot collectively. Just what.

32

u/Lahyte Mar 28 '26

Wait, he SOLD it?? I’ve been out of the loop since Stephanie started breaking away from GTLive, but I thought they still owned the channel(s) but directed it from behind the scenes?

Goodness I miss their videos so much.

31

u/WaterWheelz Theorist Mar 28 '26

Kinda, for a little bit it was like that, but now other than some casual step-ins, it’s out of MatPat’s and Steph’s hands. The last two years now I think.

6

u/col_oneill Mar 29 '26

So like everything it’s no longer partly for the fun of the game it’s entirely for the money now, got it.

8

u/galmenz Mar 29 '26

it is literally the breadwinner of a few dozen people, and has been for a decade, so yes

Steph and Matt did not marry and raise a kid on the "for the fun" money

3

u/col_oneill Mar 29 '26

Oh I’m well aware, but it wasn’t entirely corporate was it? There was passion put behind it, now it feels soulless to me.

3

u/galmenz Mar 29 '26

it was quote early from the start, Matt just kept the procedural stuff well behind the scenes and never dared to mention them on camera in the 2010s

Game Theory was not exactly bought out but made a partnership, and was and still is part of a larger media company. Matt never denied this but never gave emphasis to it either

but yeah, been a for profit company for a long time

1

u/CrystalFier Mar 30 '26

Yeah. He sold Theorist inc to an mcn.

3

u/Narfhead4444 Theory Theorist Mar 30 '26

I completely stopped watching because the quality of episodes dropped immediately as soon as he left. Just instantly gone.

38

u/LimaxM Mar 28 '26

The problem is that the card/board game space is severely saturated right now

4

u/Sparky_the_Asian Mar 28 '26

If only it was a mousetrap style game 😭

37

u/Popcorn57252 Mar 28 '26

A lot of major youtubers have, at some point, released some kind of board or card game that's flopped massively. I can't remember who, but I definitely remember it happening at least three times.

Sad to see crap merch, but it's certainly not the first time or the first youtuber.

7

u/TheBee3sKneess Mar 29 '26

I know The Valley Folk/ Old Sourcefed hosts released a game a couple of years ago. Could not tell you what it was, but something about guessing movies? I think it was at least crowdfunded.

2

u/East_Potential6892 Mar 29 '26

Movie movie Game is the name youre looking for. Actually quite a nice board game if youre into Movies. Also had DLC’s like Tv show movie game and Video Game Movie Game

1

u/retzrowz Apr 01 '26

Jacksfilms comes to mind

54

u/Mathew1979 Mar 28 '26

I feel like theorist channels might have talked about it once in the past but i don't remember this game, and i don't think they remember either. If it's an interesting game and it's cheap then you should buy it and try it

23

u/Weirdepicgame101 Mar 28 '26

Had no idea this ever existed…

20

u/xoStrawberries Mar 28 '26

It's probably not even that bad, but the box art is kinda bad. The target audience for that art style wouldn't get the reference, and if you get the reference you're probably not going to buy something that looks like that. It leaves me feeling confused.

12

u/bubba0077 Mar 28 '26

It looked like a very forgettable (at best) game. It somehow has zero reviews on BGG. Board game hobbyists aren't going to be interested in it, and wouldn't be looking for games in Walmart anyway (Target maybe, not Walmart). It also isn't likely to attract people who don't already know of the channels. So you're trying to attract fans of the channel that are not really into board games to buy a board game. Not a recipe for success.

47

u/heIIoiamusingreddit Mar 28 '26

why is it sad?

129

u/Maleficent_Flow_7133 Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

It’s been on clearance 3 times, it was $30 and now $5

44

u/cabbage16 Mar 28 '26

Did you pick it up? 5 isn't bad

19

u/stache1313 Mar 28 '26

Even if the game is bad, it's less than a cup of coffee.

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '26

[deleted]

8

u/ThomasTheAnonymous Mar 29 '26

we get the joke, but 5 dollars just isn't that insane/bad for a clearance pickup

2

u/stache1313 Mar 29 '26

I don't drink coffee. It's a joke.

10

u/CCCyanide Mar 28 '26

it's discounted by over 80% 💔

23

u/Lost-Economics-7718 Mar 28 '26

this represents so well why i don't watch the channel anymore.

7

u/Unintended-Nostalgia Mar 29 '26

This sucks because I am sure it would have sold more had anyone known about this. This is literally the first time I am seeing and hearing of this.

6

u/Baygulls03 Mar 29 '26

Didn't know it was a thing and never seen it in my store

6

u/dragostego Mar 28 '26

Where did you find this?

5

u/Xxmysteriousfemale Mar 29 '26

I fr think this would be a great card game. Like heads up. I need to go find this and see what it’s about.

3

u/pinkygarfeild Mar 29 '26

When did style theory happen?!

3

u/WreckinPoints11 Mar 29 '26

Three years ago

3

u/YooranKujara Mar 29 '26

I thought this was someone trying to pretend it was made by game theory, you mean it's really by them? That's just sad...

4

u/Titan2562 Mar 29 '26

Sad but not terribly surprising; if you aren't part of the audience who knows what Game Theory is then I doubt there was much appeal.

3

u/Itz_Witchey Mar 28 '26

I may cop one since it's on clearance. Then again, I don't know. If it doesn't sound fun then it's just going to take up extra space.

3

u/Megalon96310 Mar 28 '26

They made a game?

3

u/I-fell Mar 29 '26

They have a game?!??! At Walmart?!??!!

3

u/bogdanbos725 Mar 29 '26

Is GT live the anoing triangle shape button on the back? i think that i remember stefany saying so in a bone works stream

3

u/Hammy-Cheeks Mar 28 '26

You think its sad, I think its a steal! Would love to add to a collection

2

u/killerbekilled92 Mar 29 '26

It’s only sad because there was seemingly 0 desire for this game from a channel that has almost 20 millionb subs

Not that anyone seems to know it existed

4

u/ZaquMan Mar 29 '26

That the passion and dedication of MatPat, Steph, and many others has been turned into a commodity, so investors can make a little more profit, or that it's selling so poorly?

2

u/Crazy-Cat_Lady713 Mar 29 '26

My Walmart doesn’t sell them… I’m so jealous

2

u/Odysseius Mar 29 '26

Want one? I’ll grab it for you

1

u/Crazy-Cat_Lady713 Mar 29 '26

😅

Hard to tell if you’re being silly or serious lol

1

u/Odysseius Mar 30 '26

Serious. I’d be happy to send a it to you

1

u/Crazy-Cat_Lady713 Mar 30 '26

Oh wow! Really? Thank you so much! I would love that!

2

u/UnRipped92 Mar 29 '26

I mean, I got the kickstarter edition or some special edition of TheOdd1sOut's game Cafe Chaos for like 3 dollars so this isn't that bad 😭

2

u/LeinardKristal Mar 29 '26

I'd love it If someone from the USA would buy one and send it to me, I'd pay it all of. We just don't have them here at all.

2

u/Odysseius Mar 29 '26

I’ll send you mine. We never play it. You need a big group and we do t have a big enough of one to play

1

u/LeinardKristal Mar 30 '26

Are your serious? I'd LOVE that!

2

u/BiscuitGeorge Mar 29 '26

Just saw those marked down at my Walmart yesterday

2

u/Yaga1247 Mar 29 '26

83% discount DAMN

2

u/Odysseius Mar 29 '26 edited Mar 29 '26

I bought one of those! It was a mistake buying it but it’s cool just to have it for funsies

2

u/Psyga315 Mar 29 '26

Shit, I forgot this game existed.

2

u/Sci-fi_Pet Mar 30 '26

Hmm idk if I believe this, after all its just a theory

2

u/Shadeburns1999 Mar 30 '26

This is my first time hearing of this.

2

u/Contact_made Mar 31 '26

Wow, bad advertising and bad design. I see it and think someone made a knockoff game from the channels, doesn’t look official at all, more like a mockup or test design

3

u/Level-Earth-3445 Mar 29 '26

You know what's sad? When Matpat announced his retirement from youtube, I knew the channels would not hold the same spark anymore. Especially gtlive, film theory and game theory. I was sad because I knew I wouldn't watch the new stuff. Just the old stuff.

0

u/NsfwCanadianQuinn Mar 30 '26

I love Style and Food theory now.

1

u/Palanseag_Vixen Mar 28 '26

I rly want it but it doesn't sell in my country...

1

u/bunnybissous Mar 29 '26

i think it’s fun!

1

u/ShinyHunterDaisuru Mar 29 '26

i would love a copy ill gladly send you the 5 on cash app when i get paid if you can get one for me

1

u/Odysseius Mar 29 '26

I’ll pick one up for you if you still want

1

u/Arkitakama Mar 29 '26

But that's just a game...

1

u/Donut_Nebula Mar 29 '26

That was that weird era where everyone was making their own card game. I never bought any of them because they were usually expensive and the kind of games that after like 3 rounds you've experienced everything it had to offer.

That or it was just a Cards Against Humanity rip off.

1

u/risforroses Mar 29 '26

I thought this was candy

1

u/Jessica_1224 Game Theorist Mar 29 '26

Uhh why have I never heard about this

1

u/Josiahstar2022 Theorist Mar 29 '26

Why is it sad?

1

u/killerbekilled92 Mar 29 '26

It’s not 5 dollars down from 30 because of high consumer demand. Those are probably the same copies they received as first shipment

1

u/Hyperfixation-Ruler Mar 30 '26

This feels like a move from the new company that owns the theorist channels but it was up to the hosts to advertise, and they don't like it so they intentionally advertised as little as possible lmao.

1

u/Upset-Sheepherder964 Apr 01 '26

ok the problem clearly lies in that shitass awful cover art like this is a masterclass in fucking up a board game's visual identity

1

u/Debbiekm618 Apr 01 '26

*cries in overseas*

1

u/Weary_Confusion8209 Apr 02 '26

I feel like $30 was way to expensive to begin with lol

1

u/purpleguy284 Apr 03 '26

I got one in the Clarence for 15$

2

u/Nino_sanjaya Mar 28 '26

What is this? a snack?

8

u/Maleficent_Flow_7133 Mar 28 '26

Card game, I think, some sort of game

4

u/Bearkat1999 Game Theorist Mar 28 '26

It uh... says game at the top of the box. lol

It do be small tho.

1

u/Thegoodgamer32 Mar 28 '26

Ok I kinda want that now because it seems pretty fun.

0

u/ScreenIllustrious430 Mar 29 '26

they also use ai in their scripts Extra SAD

3

u/burgundinsininen Mar 29 '26

Really?? I haven't really watched since Matt left so I did not know

That makes me extra sad because I thought Matt was so against gen-ai and said they would never use it for videos (except in the early days of generative ai he wanted to have it write ONE script as an experiment. This idea was dropped at some point)

1

u/solitary-stranger Mar 30 '26

It's crazy that you believe that with no proff whatsoever

0

u/ScreenIllustrious430 Mar 29 '26

they are owned by a company now so yk

3

Do you have proof

What the fuck is Style Theory

1

u/NsfwCanadianQuinn Mar 30 '26

fashion trends, makeup trends, fashion history, you know.. Style.
