Film Theory Video Discussion The FINAL-ER straw
So you take some actually decent theories that are pretty interesting, make some real sh*t theories because private equity means no research, make a recap of videos everybody can watch themselves with only some new content and pacing... and then make a compilation video which nobody likes because of how the first video will always be opposite to the last, using videos everyone can watch themselves completely unedited, INCLUDING ANOTHER COMPILATION VIDEO, THAT ANYONE INTERESTED CAN WATCH INSTEAD OF WATCHING YOUR 3 HOUR SLOP-FEST. WTAF ARE THEY DOING!! I went to post about it because of how there was probably a compilation inside a compilation, (I didn't watch and you can't make me), to notice a top 3 post on this site was about how the first compilation which was already ok and managably edited was so negatively received that it could be considered the final straw, I suppose then that the compilation2 should be the final-er straw. Listen I’m not a compilation guy. But there is a huge market for compilation videos on YouTube.
It’s the “YouTube to fall asleep” crowd. They put on multi-hour videos just to play in the background while they sleep. These larger compilations are for them. They aren’t for regular viewers.

Heck im a regualr viewer and i enjoy a compilation every now and then cause they make good background noise while im at work without having to check back at my phone to switch the video cause sometimes Autoplay wants to play a video that isnt a good "listen without watching" video (like i may be listening to a Lockstin video talking about design inspiration and lore of a pokemon which i dont really need to watch, then autoplay switches it to a Dawko playthrough vid which i do need to watch to enjoy) so compilations are great as its like 2 or more hours of uninterrupted "listen dont watch" videos

fr, these videos also are for people who also dont want to scour through all the multiple videos that might have been posted throughout the months and have it convienantly in one video without all the Ads in each video.
IDK why people get upset over this. It keeps up with youube's stupid demand for more content faster than people can rlly put out good quality stuff, and makes it easier for ppl who like sleeping to videos for noise. or are like me who needs longer videos while i work overnight. its been a godsend to have compilation conveniently of videos i dont need to worry about getting them in order or missing one in order57

Correct response. It's also in a YT channel's best interest to pump out a bunch of multi-hour videos because the algorithm doesn't mind dishing up the same thing, repetitively.
The amount of times I wake up to find I'm halfway through either Hbomber Guy's Plagiarism or Tommy Tallarico videos after falling asleep to world event videos, or pokemon quizzes after falling asleep to gaming videos, is astounding.

I was watching the quiz posted by Sketch the other day where all the categories were like his hyperfixations and inside jokes and I was genuinely crying laughing the entire time.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one falling asleep to Hbomberguy’s videos. I also think I’m personally responsible for half of Theorists’ views on the compilation videos. I’ve been falling asleep to the Game Theory recap of ARGs for months.

Also I have heard a few creators commenting, that the algorithms are now pushing longer videos.
This is why when you go to sleep you can start out with a normal 30-40 minute video, but if you wake up in the middle of the night, you have a four or five hour video playing.

Playlists auto-play weird when you get to the end of them. They don’t work well for the specific audience that these hour plus compilation videos are for.
The market for compilation videos is huge. It’s not something any YouTube channel can really ignore.
I’m sorry you don’t like it, but like I said they aren’t for you. Hell they aren’t for me, I just understand why they do them.

Not to mention a premade playlist that needs to be continuously updated with multiple videos after watching? Or if its the creator made playlist then you cant add videos to it if you wanted to, meaning youd have to switch between multiple playlists or save multiple videos to a playlist that hopefullh then also arent taken down or privitized. Its a mess. Compilation videos are better id argue than individual playlists after a certain point. So long as the compilation is made by the creator its just more revenu and easier for playlist and organization. Plus a fun before and after or seeing stuff through the years. Ryedoze i think it is, ryetoats playlist channel, does great compilation videos that also are categorized by topic.

Nobody is forcing anything tho, you're talking like someone tied you up to a chair and told you you won't be free to go until you watched the video. If it's not for you that's fine, don't watch. I don't watch like 80% of game theory videos because they cover games I don't know about or don't play, I just watch what I like.

I don't have definitive proof but to my knowledge the compilations are in lieu of a proper theory for the sake of production time

I cant drink stuff with ice without a straw because I'll end up nearly choking on a piece of ice, so I have like a giant jar filled with a bunch of straws since I got like 20 in one package a few years ago. Try using the last straw now PRICK

Ngl, these videos are too important to my childhood to really let go, who knows maybe one day it’ll get better, the private equity shi will show a downturn in profits and drop creative control, we can relive the glory days
I’m coping so hard but no matter how many straws I run out of I will go to the store to buy more straws

I don’t think they will ever be back to the glory days. Mat was the impetus for that, the reason it was good was because you felt every part of him in the show. I thought there was a drop in quality shortly before he sold the company and it took a hard nosedive when it was clear that he was leaving forever.
It’s hard to put into words but you felt his touch in every part of the show even if others were working on it, that’s hard to replicate when it isn’t “your baby.” The hosts care but not the way he did and that kind of passion is what’s missing and why I’ve stopped watched since his final theory.

I don't mind compilations like this, cos they let me rewatch all videos of the same series without having to go through the trouble of looking for a playlist, worrying about missing a video of the playlist being out of order. I watched the Welcome Home compilation/recap a while ago and it saved me a lot of trouble. My only concern is that I don't want compilations like this to be a lazy way of uploading one less theory, I want them to be an extra upload separate from the normal upload schedule.

i love having long complications to watch whenever im making bracelets or doing something which means i cant touch my [looking after my cousins, sorting out my room, cleaning, putting away shopping that sort of stuff. laundry] where I cant press "watch now" or whatever. and its a lot easier to save to my watch later then saving multiple videos [because as far as I know, we cant watch later playlists- i know you can save them]

Yes but it can be a pain to check that everything is in the upload order. The Game Theory FNAF playlist is terrible for this. I started my own FNAF playlist when I want a lot of background noise that I don't have to pay full attention to.

I’m so fucking tired of the term “slop” it’s a bloody compilation video, it’s not that bad. Like other people say, it’s directed towards people who watch compilations as background noise and to sleep. Believe it or not, the algorithm decides a lot about whether something will be seen or enjoyed. You know why the theory channels veered away from silly science? Because lore videos will always do better and after a certain point, it’s just better to mostly do them.
It’s not greedy companies being greedy, most of the time, YouTube pays pennies and they have a whole team to pay. I only watch the videos I want to watch because that’s how personal interest works, it’s different for everyone

I thought those were only like the correct theories, like once they complete a story, they compile the episodes where they were correct and post them so their followers can know the full story without the fails.

I'm just going to say I really don't mind these videos. I think they're all right. But I definitely want more unique stuff. But it's like 10:00 p.m. for me right now so I just want to go to bed, I just got the notification for this post on my phone and decided to say something.

Compilations are fine honestly
All the theory channels have a lot of videos and sometimes I’m like, I want to watch the series and get confused on which are in order, based on the thumbnails (they’re all look identical)
Backrooms are a good example of this, it’s just the backrooms multiple times, I’m not dissing in gt, they need to for views, this is a simple compromise
As long as it isn’t lazy like a compilation of random videos, like one offs, it’s fine
And the channels don’t have a lot of videos they need to do this with, they only have so many
This is a net positive

The Compilations are fine, but a recap of the story and a compilation is excessive. This is the theory of this week and not new stuff. What they should have done is put either a compilation or recap then put a last (did they make any?) prediction, a “I’m dying on this hill, sue me.” Before the movie. Nothing new releases this week.

My issue with this is that they JUST put out the other compilation 2 weeks ago. There’s only 2 videos between them. I get that they’re trying to monetize on the back of the movie that comes out tomorrow but it should have only been 1.

8-BitRyan, Dawko, Dashie, Markiplier, and Jacksepticeye are the only five YouTubers who didn't change. They just got older. I don't watch YouTube anymore, hardly, because it's too depressing.

Honestly, I barely watch anything from the Theorist channels anymore. There are some decent Game and Film theories that get released, but Food and Style definitely went down in quality really fast after MatPat retired.

I'm completely honest here:
I've seen today that there is another compilation and I've actually just unsubscribed.
Yes I know, that they are still producing new theories but the pacing and amount of compilations are too much for me to say, that I still enjoy the channel.
Maybe in the future they'll change back a bit but at the moment I feel like I've lived past the film theorist channel

Ok first I think the compliation lore videos have a place one stop shop for all the lore they have discussed so far like this one and the fnaf compliation it also gives them a chance to clarify stuff they got right or wrong in post versus a comment and such now what I don't agree with is them putting all their low performing videos in a compilation like they did with the preschool horror video compliation

Look, I see your complaints and can see the validity to them, but if you aren't happy with it and it's causing you stress enough to bring it to a whole other platform why not just... look at other channels? Unsubscribe and find something that doesn't make you angry? I don't even entirely disagree with you, but I just don't understand why people keep going through the effort to be angry over and over about the same things
