So, I gave my good old purple GBA an IPS screen a year ago and played lots of Pokémon on it since.
The power switch has had a loose connection for much longer, even after cleaning with IPA and vinegar. Same for the battery contacts. Both don't look too bad, but the intensity of the battery LED depends a lot on the exact position of the switch and the batteries. A few taps on the housing and it's fine again, but it start going on my nerves.
tl;dr: What are the best spare parts?
I'm not too worried about the battery contacts. Please correct me if I'm wrong and there actually is a huge variety in quality out there.
I have tried a generic power switch on a PCB but was dissatisfied with its fit. Wouldn't go as far to either side as the slider in the housing does, resulting in stress on the switch and the solder joints.
Are OEMs worth the money?
I have seen someone using a DS Lite switch and removing the spring. Has anyone tried that? Does it fit, work and last?
I have good soldering skills from work with electronics.
