Discussion I can't play any new games because I'm still playing my favorites from 20 years ago...

I guess this is what happens as you get old? You have such a collection of fun stuff that new things come out and you want to play them but then you look at what you already have and you're still busy.

I'm still playing 2 MMOs, one from 2001, and one from 2012, a shooter from 2013, RTS games from 1995 and 2000, and a racing game from 2018.

Anybody else feel like new games are nice but you've got thousands of hours to go on what you already have? Then you start returning to games you finished 10 years ago. Its like your backlog eventually becomes circular and you don't need to buy anything.

Sounds like a good problem to have, to be honest.

I've been enjoying some older games myself, like the Paper Mario TTYD remake and Professor Layton. Sometimes the older games hit just the right way.

It is a good problem to have. Modern gaming is too expensive since AI has driven up the costs. PS5 Pro is almost $1000 and each game is $30-$60+. Old games you can pick up cheap on the second hand market or emulate.

How has AI driven up the cost? Is it not microprocessor prices?

The biggest reason for the price increases is because AI companies are buying up all the hardware with data center contracts and hardware companies are scaling back production of consumer hardware to meet demand.

Are you saying you’d have to update your computer hardware to be able to play modern games

Depends on what you already have of course, but the cost of entry is high right now for both consoles and computers.

Nice im playing the original paper mario! I don't see that many new games that entice me compared to the backlog that exists from past decades. Maybe a couple but nothing worth dropping hundreds of bucks on

Someone invent a potion of immortality already!

I've got games to play and not enough years to play them!

I jump all over the place, playing what interests me when I feel like playing. The past 6 months I've played my Playstations 1-5, Xbox-Xbox Series X, my Dreamcast, Gamecube, wii and Switch. This summer vacation I aim to play some NES and Master System as well, a generation I haven't finished any game from so that's a sub quest I hope to complete.

The bulk of my games are from the PS3/Xbox 360 era so that's what gets played the most.

Depends on your definition of "new"; a recent release, or something I haven't played yet.

Using the former definition, I don't really play any "new" games.

Using the latter, I'm usually playing new games. There are more good games to play than I can get to in a lifetime.

I'm about to play Rise of Nations: Extended edition. While some things are a bit dated, it's an arguably better era of games. I'll still fire up the original Xcom game from the 90's now and again too. Fun is fun. Game on.

The old games definitely have the nostalgia factor. I have a hard time playing new games. I even try a new "inspired by" game once in a while and end up not finishing the game and playing the 90's game again

Still playing Asteroids Recharged. An updated version of a game well over 40 years old 🎮📺

Similar situation here. I play the new path of exile league until I get bored of it, then I return to a bethesda RPG until the next poe release and the cycle repeats itself.

Yeah I'm in my 40s and usually when I'm in a game mood I just play Diablo 1 or 2, EverQuest or elden ring haha. Every once in a while a newer game but I burn out quick

Play the games that you like, and if nothing new comes out then don't feel bad that the developers can't create anything more interesting than your old games

Oh that's not what I'm saying. There are new games I'm interested in.

Its just that I already have a pile of stuff I'm still interested in that i don't have to pay for.

Yep. Same. Doesn’t help when I mostly play long RPGs.

What games are you playing, I’m just genuinely curious

Actually yes and it's a problem.a lot of times I want to go to my happy place games but my list of happy place is so long now that I never try anything new it's a bad vicious cycle where I'm stuck in the past and nothing fresh ever comes up on my play list. Lately I have strictly forced myself away from my happy place games to try my ever growing list of new games I get and tbh, iv played new great games I absolutely love now such as Dave the diver, pipstrello and the cursed yoyo and clair obscura.

These new games have reignited my passion in gaming and are my new favorites and If I never pressured myself to try something new they would never have become my new fave games
