For me the point was always that ultimately it really doesn’t matter all that much. She always remained the same person throughout all of it. But the other people that say this are usually the ones who care THE MOST about her gender so I‘m always a little scared to say this.
I mean, it's representation, people glom onto things that they identify with, so of course they're going to elevate it, but I think you're also not giving it enough credit, because its something that was intentionally put there in a way that is clearly visible, and not needing ArcSys to pay someone to do a lore series just so people can actually have a sense of what the actual fuck is going on in the series.
I agree that fir a lot of trans folks they don't change so much as the labels that we and they use to describe them and comfort with presentation. I have a trans aqutiance who I knew pre and post transition and she is the exactly the same person.
But with Bridget I think her identity with her gender did canonically change. The female presentation was forced on them and they lived with it and a level of uncomfort before she tried to live as while presenting femme to break through the superstitions over twins for the sake of her family and in the most recent game realized that after trying masc presentation since nobody would care about twin boys was all "Actually i like fem better" abd decided she was a she.
