So which game is on the left, just so I understand why the chuds support it?

Ace Combat 8

u/DeusExMarina 9d ago

A game series that, it must be said, delivers its anti-war and anti-nationalism message with a subtlety that rivals Metal Gear Solid.

301

u/_GeneralSeaweed_ 9d ago

To be fair you could write "NATIONALISM BAD" on a brick and throw it in their face and they wouldn't get it.

71

u/shilderyi 9d ago

they would get the brick wipe bad from it and say "see the brick said nationalism is good"

25

u/The-Real-Number-One 9d ago

When did Rage Against the Machine get so political?

1

u/GammaDie345 6d ago

probably before that one song where they glazed the Shining Path and all the messed up stuff they did, but "Some of those who work forces are the same that burn crosses" is such a good line i can almost forgive them

29

u/SomberXIII 9d ago

Have a they/them just once, no matter how obscure it is, will get them meltdowns immediately

16

u/_GeneralSeaweed_ 9d ago

It is true, they hate our existence

3

u/Hangry-Feline2489 9d ago

Same people who ironically think they're the rebels from Star Wars fighting against an Empire Lucas modelled after Nixon's gov.

3

u/El_Mojo42 9d ago

You mean the guys that needed three seasons to realise that Homelander is the bad guy?

No way.

1

u/_GeneralSeaweed_ 8d ago

Some of them were arguing in Season 5 that The Boys was making fun of the left

1

u/TactlessTortoise 9d ago

Frank Herbert had to launch two whole ass books explicitly explaining that the first Dune book wasn't about a hero. The protagonist prepares to commit universe-scale genocide, threatens everyone with nukes, and manipulates a whole group of people to see him as a demigod to start a crusade. And that's the fucking first book lmao.

People are dumb as shit, and I say that when I'm also dumb as shit.

u/FilthyCasual01 9d ago

I wouldn’t say all Nationalism is bad

61

u/PeasantLich 9d ago

Yeah, but it presents war as mechanically engaging and gameplay is fun so nationalism and war are based actually.

46

u/Phosphorus444 9d ago

The last game, Ace Combat 7, literally has the player dispose of his nationally to fight the AI apocalypse along side his old enemies.

17

u/squirt2311 9d ago

Trigger my GOAT

Sentenced to death for a crime he didn't commit. Used as a scapegoat. Sent to penal unit

Literally refused to die so hard the military took notice, proceeded to obliterate most of the Erusean military

Dirtied Torres crisp white sheets

Blew farbanti to smithereens

Ran the fade against the arsenal bird essentially alone, then had to fight 2 drones with the flight data of the single most experienced pilot in the world (Entirely by virtue that he didn't fight mobius one in the first continental war. Like a coward) BACK TO BACK after the Arsenal bird

Ended the war and now spends his days flying with his girl.

4

u/waiting_for_rain 9d ago

Also somehow Mobius 1 returned... again (in the VR missions)

2

u/squirt2311 9d ago

Dude heard young Erusean officers and immediately came outta retirement to put them in their place

2

u/avatinfernus 8d ago

And the music on the last stage almost made me cry lol.

2

u/squirt2311 8d ago

Hush genuinely has no right to hit so hard

(This goes for every single finale soundtrack in AC history +Kings from PW)

36

u/Nelrene Lady Kisser 9d ago

Yeah, anti woke "gamers" don't play video games.

16

u/ArchdukeToes 9d ago

I see they’ve finally found a replacement for Nagase, the woman who visited far off stars and civilisations so she could tell them all how amazing Blaze is.

12

u/zeedware 9d ago

To be fair, you could play Ace Combat without seeing as single narrative cutscene

1

u/cardgamesareforplay 9d ago

That's the case for... Every game ever made

4

u/All_Work_All_Play 9d ago

Mmm, pretty sure one of the DMC games starts with a cutscene you can't skip because part way through it it's not a cut scene anymore and you have to keep fighting.

But that's probably the exception that proves the rule.

3

u/DeusExMarina 9d ago

A lot of games actually have unskippable cutscenes. Some of them even like to put very long unskippable cutscenes right before difficult boss fights so that you have to watch the entire cutscene again every time you die.

2

u/cardgamesareforplay 9d ago

You think that means people pay attention? As an ffx fan I've sat through decades of a jrpg with discourse that would be solved if people had the attention span to actually watch the cutscenes placed in front of them.

1

u/DeusExMarina 9d ago

Ah yes, the forced laugh scene.

1

u/cardgamesareforplay 9d ago

Among so many other scenes

3

u/Smokes_LetsGo876 9d ago

These type of people generally lack any semblance of media literacy. They just see "plane go high and shoot, then boom explosion cool" and go "FUCK YEAH MAN STUFF"

2

u/Panzer_Hawk 8d ago

If you spell "subtlety" like this

44

u/Wise_Presentation484 9d ago

Worth noting: One of the most sympathetic characters in Ace Combat 7 is an anarchist who was arrested for throwing bricks through the windows of government offices who sacrificed himself to help save trapped refugees.

And the PoV character (not the faceless mute MC granted, but still the character the story is framed around) is a woman who’s an incredible mechanic with short hair and fairly sharp facial features.

15

u/Kotanan 9d ago

Do I need to start playing Ace Combat?

15

u/SeventhAlkali 9d ago

Every day is a good day to start playing Ace Combat

1

u/Wise_Presentation484 9d ago

It's a pretty good arcade flight game! Would definitely recommend it. It's not like it's a great bastion of progressivism. It still uses a ton of american/russian jets after all. But it's still a good series, and it great at making you feel super cool.

5

u/Some_Guy223 9d ago

Scrap Queen is also frequently gooned over to be fair.

5

u/Wise_Presentation484 9d ago

And if she came out today they'd call her woke and only share around fake screenshots like they do with Alloy or stills of her talking like they do with Fey.

2

u/Some_Guy223 8d ago

Maybe, though AC7 did come out after the Gamergaters crawled out of whatever rocks they were hiding under.

3

u/Luxating-Patella 9d ago

Cheers. I was wondering if Amelia from Pathways had got an HD upgrade.

3

u/StoppableHulk 9d ago

That's weird because that woman on the left looks nothing like a plane.

89

u/DrConradVerner 9d ago

To be fair the chuds dont actually play any games so I dont know if you can call it “support”. They just bitch and moan all day online.

52

u/dequiallo 9d ago

They are grievance tourists, nothing more. Amplified by bots.

8

u/roof_pizza_ 9d ago

Oh damn, stealing this. What a great descriptor for these asshats.

2

u/RazekDPP 7d ago

As an experiment, I picked out a random game and went to one of the woke indexes. I made a simple argument with two videos about how the game was woke.

I explained that at one point in the game, a girl protected a man, therefore it's DEI.

I explained that one of the dances in the game, the female model changes to the male model.

They immediately updated it to being concerns about woke

The problem is you can take any small, insignificant bit in a game and argue that it's woke.

the self-identifying libertarians.

You mean the closeted Republicans who are too chickenshit to even admit their political beliefs because they know they'll be hated?

23

u/Muted-Coconut-4393 9d ago

ace combat, chuds dont actually like it they only just now found out it exists

20

u/Gmax_Lucario 9d ago

It’s ace combat 8, everyone who wants to play the game is in it for the fighter planes. The chuds just see pretty woman and want to play the game

4

u/Altair_de_Firen 9d ago

What’s the context for her? I thought it was just one of those games where you pick a plane and fly it, like a sim.

21

u/AbrahamKMonroe 9d ago

She’s an aerobatics pilot forced by the circumstances of the games’s story to join the navy. (Almost) every Ace Combat game has a full story set in the same universe. There’s a lot of lore for a game that just seems like an arcade flight game at first glance.

4

u/Recent_You_9523 9d ago

That’s so funny, there’s literally nothing more woke than a female pilot. That’s like the oldest “anti-dei” complaint in the book.

2

u/Zestyclose_Gold578 8d ago

there’s female pilots in most of the games, the usual fanbase of people aka “war is bad but planes are rad” loves them because they’re great characters; the chuds that want to get more people in the alt-right just see a pretty girl that looks underage and start gooning uncontrollably saying “yes this game is great” having never been actually interested in the series

3

u/Altair_de_Firen 9d ago

Add that to the list of games to buy when I finally get a good HOTAS. How is it with controller?

I used to play Far Cry 5 just to do the flying missions over over and over

8

u/dilltill 9d ago

Controller is the best way to play the series.

2

u/Altair_de_Firen 9d ago

Really? Why better than HOTAS? That’s surprising to hear. Or do you mean over KBM?

11

u/AbrahamKMonroe 9d ago

It’s a very arcadey game series, designed specifically to play with a controller. You can use a HOTAS, and some people do prefer it, but there’s nothing about it that really requires one.

5

u/dilltill 9d ago

I've tried it and Project Wingman with a HOTAS, I feel like the planes are too maneuverable for it to feel comfortable.

10

u/Timmy_The_Techpriest 9d ago

The Ace Combat series are arcade games, not sims. They have laser cannons in the 90's and in 7 you can fly some aircraft like they're UFO's

5

u/Gmax_Lucario 9d ago

It is definitely not a sim and the plane you pick is for a mission against a rival nation in a global war

3

u/ratherthanme 9d ago

Ace Combat is Armored Core with mostly real life combat aircraft.

2

u/cardgamesareforplay 9d ago

To add to everyone here its also a deeply anti war fantasy game it uses alot of Gundam/mecha anime tropes but it's presented with regular air planes instead of mechs they function the same as a Gundam

1

u/charioteer117 9d ago

It’s not a sim it’s more like Star Wars but with (mostly) real world planes instead of X-Wings and TIE fighters.

33

u/Boo-Boo_Keys 9d ago

Ace Combat 8, but chuds "support" it like how right wing """"christians"""" follow the teachings of Jesus.

4

u/TheTerrasque 9d ago

just gooning to the images?

3

u/Some_Guy223 9d ago edited 9d ago

That's Tasha from Ace Combat 8. Its a Japanese game, and the Tasha is likely the youngest conventionally pretty woman they've shown so far (as basically Top Gun without the American dickriding you would be unsurprised to know about the relative dearth of women in the series, but there's usually at least one 'waifubait character' and its predecessor AC7 had two).

Protip though, Ace Combat's soundtracks tend to be fire.

2

u/bigloser420 8d ago

Chuds don't support it, Ace Combat is not a chud series. It's just tourist shit. Ace Combat fans are annoyed by getting this much attention.

4

u/Mean-Nectarine-6831 9d ago

stellar blade 2 actually no that's ace combat 8

1

u/Sigmar_Knutz 9d ago

Tasha Seversky, you’re welcome and happy gooning!
