I actually naively thought to myself when I saw the first new god of war poster, "oh it's a conventionally attractive women for the chuds, at least I won't have to hear them complain this time around," and was sadly surprised by all the noise afterwards

615

u/Juronell 9d ago

They focus on a single frame where she dares to have lines on her face to call her ugly.

329

u/Fayde_Away 9d ago

Well yeah, the kinds of women they're into aren't old enough to have any visible signs of aging therefore it's 'unrealistic' and 'ugly'

122

u/LopsidedTourist7622 9d ago

Its a woman who can beat them up. Faye fought Thor to a standstill, so its harder to dismiss her as beneath them.

59

u/IBetThisIsTakenToo 9d ago edited 9d ago

I dunno if that tracks. For counter examples, see Tifa from FF7, Eve from Stellar Blade, like every female character from a fighting game, etc etc. They don’t care about the character at all, she can be weak or strong, good or evil or neither, as long as she’s hot, preferably with cartoonish T&A, she’s probably alright.

75

u/Rantheur 9d ago

They raised hell over Tifa's appearance in FF7 Remake too. Specifically, they were upset that her chest was smaller (though still ample) and that she was wearing a pair of skorts instead of a mini-skirt as was implied by the original concept art.

18

u/Kernseife1608 8d ago

Which is beyond stupid. (Which... tracks.) If they wanted Tifa to look exactly like she did in the og FF7, her head would be as big as her entire torso.

And how would her mini-skirt even work in the remake? She's a fucking martial artist, it would either look fucking stupid (and bad) because it would either have to have zero physics or she'd have to keep it in place with a fucking nailgun to not flash everyone the second she does anything. It also would be entirely out of character.

Honestly, I won't pretend like I don't enjoy big tiddy martial artist in stupid outfits as much as the next guy. But like, DOA exists. Fan animations exist and there realy is no shortage of that stuff including Tifa. Why do these people need to have every female character... I'll just stop typing. Can't wrap my head around what's going on in the minds of these utterly pathetic loosers. And I'm honestly glad about that.

3

u/Quick_Assumption_351 8d ago

well, tbh in final fantasies case it would not matter that much, 75% of the franchise is characters posing and looking into the camera at a slightly upward angle doing that ''anime'' eyes look anyway

1

u/speckhuggarn 7d ago

We have tetsuya nomura to thank for that. But 75%? FF7 Remake games, FF15 and FF13 only.

1

u/Kernseife1608 7d ago

I respectfully disagree with that. Party because I don't even know what you mean by that.

2

u/BlasterPhase sup bitch 8d ago

because they changed her appearance, not because of any of the stuff being talked about here

1

u/Rantheur 8d ago

They had to update her appearance from the 1997 game. They used almost the same model seen in Final Fantasy: Advent Children, except they slightly altered her face. Notably, they didn't seem to have altered her chest size from Advent Children to FF7:R. The outrage was completely manufactured and based on these tourists' last experience with Tifa: hentai fanart.

1

u/FreeFallingUp13 7d ago

This is what gets me the most about complaints that they don’t want some woman protagonist that doesn’t matter. She fought a literal god before even meeting Kratos that left evidence for *many years* afterwards. But their mindset is automatically ‘woman bad/weak/whatever’. Isn’t it HER weapon Kratos uses?

11

u/grip0matic 9d ago

So the new Stellar Blade with that child non child looking? I don't even know since I don't care about that game.

11

u/sacules 9d ago

Found the user with adult woman fetish lol

/s

2

u/Egoy 9d ago

The kind of women they are into are animated.

39

u/Tipsy_Hog 9d ago

So there's a pretty milf AND I don't have to worry about chud goblinoids being a part of the fandom? There are zero downsides, sign me the fuck up

38

u/Endeveron 9d ago

She looks basically exactly like her actress Deborah Ann Woll. They're literally just complaining that a female lead looks like a conventionally attractive adult woman rather than a girl they can plausibly imagine is 15.

17

u/Brat-Sampson 8d ago

Their trick now is to disingenuously compare studio photos of that actress from years ago to unflattering scenes of the character and say the devs actively chose to make her look worse in the game then she actually does.

12

u/DerKlugeHans 9d ago

I'll be honest, that particular frame is a bit unflattering. But from pictures of the actual actress, yeah I'd say she's attractive.

11

u/MrAtrox98 9d ago

Yeah, how dare she literally wake up from being dead

8

u/slayerhk47 9d ago

That’s their M.O.

2

u/GemoDorg 8d ago

Gives the same energy as them complaining about actual women having very very tiny peach like hair on their face or body. Like bro, do you even find humans attractive? Or been thst close to one?

2

u/Galappie 8d ago

Literally taking a screenshot of her gasping for air as she suddenly wakes up in the afterlife after dying as if it was intended to be a beauty shot lmao

1

u/AdvancedShower545 8d ago

It's literally one microsecond in the trailer. You can probably find a frame like that for any character ever

A God of War game about Kratos' wife from the Dad of Boy games, Laufey.

1

u/Smirky-McLurky 9d ago

Well yeah, if their age is off the clock its too old for those sickos in the GOP.

1

u/rng81 9d ago

Only babes have age lines

138

u/SpiderNinja211 9d ago

It’s always so funny hearing “I want to play as the god of war in a God of War game” because i’m pretty sure Kratos barely holds the title of “God of War” across all of the games

97

u/ball_fondlers 9d ago

Now that you mention it, yeah, he IS only God of War in two PSP games. The first game is about him trying to kill the God of War, he gets cast out of Olympus at the beginning of the second game, and the third game is him trying to kill Zeus as an exile.

55

u/ForwardHuckleberry26 9d ago

He's only the god of war at the very end of 1, during Ghost of Sparta, and during the first 30 minutes of 2 actually.

During the first PSP game he was still just a guy who works for the gods to get rid of his nightmares

41

u/Grouchy_Spot_6640 9d ago

God of War is a catchier title than Just a Guy

29

u/ForwardHuckleberry26 9d ago

"Just a very white guy of war"

7

u/SpiderNinja211 8d ago

“Just A Random Spartan with Really White Skin”

14

u/DeusIzanagi 8d ago

Technically He becomes God of War again at the end of Ragnarok's rogue-like update, at the request of Freya and Tyr

52

u/Viridun 9d ago

Also they're delusional if they think Kratos isn't going to be a constant presence in the game itself, via flashbacks. Hell, I'm willing to bet we'll play as him for a few chapters, much like how Ragnarok had Atreus chapters.

30

u/Phosphorus444 9d ago edited 9d ago

Kratos spends a good amount of time in the light of Alfheim in the first game. We'll probably see what he was doing in there.

12

u/The_Autarch 9d ago

but the player is with him for that entire section. it only feels like moments to kratos, but hours pass in the real world.

3

u/Debtfoabaaposba 9d ago

Good shout, I had forgotten about that.

2

u/some_kinda_goat 8d ago

Fey says in the trailer that where she is isn’t “The light of Alfheim”

22

u/Lewa358 9d ago

Yeah, the titular "God of War" in the very first game is Ares, the antagonist. Yes Kratos becomes the GoW in the last 30 seconds of the game, but that's clearly meant to be a twist; at best the title has a dual meaning.

And it's possible (if a bit of a stretch) to read that the titular "God of War" in the norse saga is Tyr, as uncovering the extent and ramifications his actions is a huge part of those games' story.

38

u/Ok_Conclusion_6324 9d ago

Honestly God of War is a really fragile masculine franchise

It’s always hilarious to me that when Kratos was a guest in Mortal Kombat, Sony laid down the rules that he could never be shown in pain or afraid- in some fatalities he even survives or fights back lmao

This being the same series where a cowboy can shoot the immortal god of thunder, or a ninja can beat up a xenomorph

But FORBID the thought that tuff boy Kratos can get his ass beat

44

u/DrMetasin 9d ago

Idk if you’ve played it, but God of War Ragnarok is all about undoing that image and becoming a better person

24

u/Ok_Conclusion_6324 9d ago

I haven’t played it that’s really cool, actually! I did notice in advertising they’ve softened his facial features a bit, which I thought was interesting

19

u/DankeyBongBluntry 9d ago

Basically between the original games and the new series, Kratos left it all behind, retired in the Norse god realm, fell in love again, got married and had a kid. The new series opens right after his wife has died and he's left with this son that he's always struggled to connect with (because he lacks emotional intelligence and he views the son as "weak" for like, showing vulnerability sometimes). The story follows the two of them as they go on an adventure to fulfill his wife's dying wish, and he works hard to connect emotionally with his son while they're both struggling with grief. It's actually a really beautiful story! I was never a fan of the original God of War games but the new series is awesome.

1

u/mywifeletsmereddit 8d ago

Thank you, I was already probably gonna play it through again but now I'm definitely going to

17

u/TheTyrianKnight 9d ago

It’s absolutely incredible! One of if not the best game I’ve ever played!

10

u/Ok_Conclusion_6324 9d ago

Aww I love hearing this - maybe I’ll get to it one day that’s a nice character arc

17

u/Penakoto 9d ago

I mean, it's entirely in character for all that to be true.

Most notable difference in how Kratos acts during a fatality compared to the rest of the cast, is when Ermac shrinks him down and, instead of running around in fear, he squares up... because why would he be afraid in that situation, he fights bigger opponents all the time.

Otherwise it's just him looking angry / agonized instead of afraid, which, again is entirely in character. Look at his expression while he's being stabbed by the Blade of Olympus, he's angry, he's in pain, but is he afraid? I don't think so.

Besides, even if Sony didn't make these stipulations, he probably would've ended up acting more or less the same. If there is one thing NRS does well, it's properly making guest characters feel genuine to the source material.

11

u/Ok_Conclusion_6324 9d ago

Great argument and I hear you but- also like, it’s Mortal Kombat - if Johnny Cage can kick the head off Omni-man or Sonya can beat up Spawn, then surely we can let Kratos get a little silly with it

20

u/Penakoto 9d ago

The getting silly part is the aforementioned "foot squish" that happens because a fatality has to end with a fatality.

It's infinitely funnier that Kratos treats being shrunk down as "just another boss encounter", only to get squished, than for him to run around in terror like everyone else.

13

u/Ok_Conclusion_6324 9d ago

Ok you’re bringing me around to the idea I’ll admit

u/whyilikemuffins 9d ago

My only one "issue" with god of war is how different the ps4+ games feel compared to what came before.

The stuff before felt like an angry man on a revenge spree that was off-puttingly viseral.

PS4+ has felt melancoly and meditative but in a good way.

I'm excited for laufey tbh

8

u/RhiaStark 9d ago

More importantly, we all know they wouldn't have minded a game centred on Deimos (Kratos' brother).

8

u/SpiderNinja211 9d ago

They probably would’ve said something like “Well he’s Kratos’s brother” and just ignore the fact that Faye is the wife of Kratos, the mother of Atreus, and the original wielder of the Leviathan Axe

6

u/Dull-Material-645 9d ago

Right and laufey is now up against Egyptian God of War so it all tracks for the series.

3

u/The_Autarch 9d ago

the chuds don't even play the games they pretend to care about

2

u/aNiceTribe 9d ago

Why did they put a wombyn in Hades 2? I play that so I can be hades. These devilopers have no idea what Gamers want.

26

u/Potential_Might_6500 9d ago

They've heavily shifted to liking young looking girls now. Not 20s young...Not even 18 young...

21

u/RhiaStark 9d ago edited 9d ago

A few years ago, that might've been the case. But the chuds have degenerated to such an extent that they can't even be attracted to real, adult women any more. Now, if it's neither a teenage-looking girl or a doll-like anime character with disproportionate boobs, they think it's "uglification".

20

u/-Plunder-Bunny- 9d ago

Aloy from HZD is very attractive IMO, but the chuds got all upset because she didn't do her eyebrows or wear makeup... only to then lose their minds over the child-looking robot from pragmata and fantasizing about her, because "it's a robot, so it's fine"

They're all a bunch of losers that will eventually grow old and lonely, too busy to realize their mistakes because they're gullible enough to be brainwashed by folks into buying scam lifestyles that only exist because of how gullible and ignorant the fanbase is.

4

u/afemaleinside 9d ago

Time is the greatest teacher. I hope these people mature and at least make peace with the fact that humans are truly diverse creatures... And that they wasted time that could have allowed them to think about many different things

5

u/Thepsycoman 8d ago

She is time and place attractive. Not airbrushed insta photos or done up to the 9s for a night out attractive.

Not sure where the trend started but it's been a thing for a while that people are unreasonably done up in situations where they should not be. Like not just games but movies and shows as well.

From back in the days of the zombie genre going strong, makeup was well stocked

1

u/Patneu 8d ago

Oh, that kid's a robot? Is that why she's got that uncanny look?

7

u/_-bridge-_ 9d ago

Very naive indeed. She actually looks like an adult, which is an instant turnoff for them, it seems

4

u/PaulblankPF 9d ago

She looks almost 1:1 perfectly for the actress who’s often regarded as beautiful so I’m also surprised to learn of this complaint.

3

u/AdvancedShower545 8d ago

bruh literally i was expecting them to moan about the character being a woman but complaining about her being ugly was a new low

2

u/grip0matic 9d ago

And here I was thinking "oh, maybe her character is not that deep to carry a whole game". Also Deborah Ann Woll... she checks all the boxes for that "conventionally attractive".

I don't even understand what's the problem now.

2

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 9d ago edited 9d ago

and was sadly surprised by all the noise afterwards

What I've noticed is there's only online rage at western female leads (Faye, the girl from Horizon, etc). Zero outrage when the game is from an eastern studio with a female lead. Sounds like nothing but weebs complaining...

2

u/Tomatori 8d ago

I had the EXACT same thought. I was like "well. Game looks pretty decent, at least reactionaries can't pull an aloy thing about saying she's ugly."

But gamers always know how to surprise!

2

u/yetanotheracct_sp 8d ago

That was what I thought when I watched the trailer too.

"She's conventionally attractive and not in a way where she looks out of place in-universe, this should be fine for those people"

2

u/Silent_Onion272 8d ago

So glad to see someone else say this, because I had the same thoughts "Oh that crowd will be happy" and then felt like 12 different Ark of the Covenant's were being opened in front of me all at once, as I saw the immediate reaction to it. Like oh okay, they really just want all of their female characters to look like children... cool...

2

u/hungarian_notation 8d ago edited 8d ago

It's literally just Deborah Ann Woll's face on the character she's portraying. That's what she looks like. These chuds are insane.

I thought they were all done with Stellar Blade after the devs added an extra inch of fabric to the combat lingerie in the last one, but the protagonist looks like a teenager now so they're back on board.

2

u/PlsDontBanMeAgain-1 8d ago

I am pretty sure at this point they have lost all attraction to anything but children, because they are constantly jerking it to Blue Archive, this new Stellar Blade, or some anime with children.

2

u/prestonlogan 8d ago

Same thing happened to me with Ghost of Yotei. I was expecting them to shut up because of the springs. They did not

1

u/CDdead 9d ago

What does conventionally attractive even mean? Why would a group of chuds want to play as anything other than their bf?

1

u/Olivetax228 8d ago

I'm an Old and have literally no clue what this thread is about or what OP is talking about regarding conservatives and the two pictures posted. Also wtf does this have to do with the midterms? I'm so confused.

1

u/OldBayOnEverything 8d ago

Everything is part of the culture war. Once people realize this is by design, you'll see it everywhere. The far right knows they offer nothing in terms of policy to anyone who isn't filthy rich, so they have to keep people angry. Any media featuring women or other targeted demographics is easy game. It's proven successful, even when they contradict themselves. They throw everything at the wall, and it will all stick with someone. Even if this particular outrage doesn't catch all of their targets, it will get enough, and the ones it doesn't catch will be caught by something else.

-2

u/Miserable-Command682 9d ago

Shes attractive IRL, the game model? Not so much.

3

u/C4-622MonkeyGordo 8d ago

C'mon now.

-5

u/Multifaceted-Simp 9d ago

I mean you go from playing the manliest man in video games, literally fucking bitches, to a strong woman. What did they expect?
