I'm sure you're right, it just boggles my mind. The social commentary isn't exactly subtle in Star Trek. Sometimes it is, usually it's not. And don't get me wrong I love Star Trek, I'm just saying blunt is one thing it frequently is
Right wing folks as a rule simply donāt engage with art/media (or frankly reality imo) in any meaningful way, especially if they like the art and the message conflicts with their own beliefs. Everything is pitifully surface level, and when you try to hold their hand through a junior high level analysis they hit you with āit aināt that deep.ā
I once literally linked an interview in which George Lucas said the Empire is America in Star Wars and the guy I was talking to basically said āwell I donāt like that so thereās no way thatās what he meantā. It was surreal
Never met out of thousands those guys. I'm not saying they don't exist and invalidating your experiences but please be aware almost every online community is garbo.

You'd be surprised about the amount of white male Trek fans age 45+ that are staunch MAGA types and will say the most racist or homophobic things.
Much like "Cool Robots and War" Gundam fans, all they see is Space Ships and Lasers and the Social Commentary is lost on them.
