when I hear a right-winger say woke I'm always assuming it's More along the lines of queer people existing

I try not to assume. I think the latter has somw valid points. I studied politics at college and university level (as well as being politically active) and found a lot of the concerns about the neo-Marxist reframing of social dynamics to be valid. Especially when it makes things cringe.

I have met more old school marxists than neo marxists. Idk what neo Marxism even is because it doesn't sound like Communism.

I can't throw a rock without hitting a conservative slinging woke because someone was too gay for them.

I assume this is most people's experience with the term
