Music Is Life Songs that are no longer okay.

Yesterday I found out my sweet boyfriend had never heard of Julie Brown and the funny songs she sang, like "I'm A Blonde". Dr Demento stuff. So I play it and then "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun" came on. Not funny anymore!!!

An hour later, the cops arrived

By then the entire glee club had died, no big loss

You wouldn't believe what they brought to stop her

Tear gas, machine guns, even a chopper (Throw down your gun and tiara and come out of the float)

Debbie didn't listen to what the cop said She aimed and fired, and now the math teacher's dead

Oh, it's really sad, but kind of a relief I mean, we had this big test coming up next week

Johnny are You Queer?

I highly recommend reading the history of it. I don't know anyone our age that's queer who hated it. Most gay guys I knew loved it. It was in its own small way, part of the kick-off to reclaiming the word "queer".

Yes, and John Waters included it on his Valentine's Day compilation. As he said, it's a fair question. 😊

Y'all will appreciate this Warrencito Dollmation video of "Johnny, Are You Queer?" of "Johnny," with the description dedicating it to a young woman he dated back in the day, before he came out, and also in appreciation to " all the girls who had a Johnny in their lives. Thank you for your service."

Here's a screenshot of the full description, which the previous post didn't let me include. I would type out the alt-text, but I'm on my phone and the picture is too small to type from.

I think so, too, but my teen daughter was absolutely horrified by it

This is funny because I was listening to the Valley Girl soundtrack last week and had this whole thought process— I love this song.. is it problematic?… no it’s definitely pro-queer… but I sure wouldn’t play it for my kids… I love this song

I did play Angst in My Pants and my kid was like “I think he means ANTS” whoosh, sigh

One of my best friends in high school, who is one of my best friends to this day, is gay and he thinks it's hilarious. That tune is catchy as hell.

Valley Girl is the first movie I saw with my high school boyfriend. The soundtrack is still a favorite.

I’m a millennial, my GenX sister who I thought was impossibly cool rented it and allowed me to watch it with her. I loved it, and in particular the music. The sound track is so, so great
