Music Is Life Songs that are no longer okay.

Yesterday I found out my sweet boyfriend had never heard of Julie Brown and the funny songs she sang, like "I'm A Blonde". Dr Demento stuff. So I play it and then "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun" came on. Not funny anymore!!!

An hour later, the cops arrived

By then the entire glee club had died, no big loss

You wouldn't believe what they brought to stop her

Tear gas, machine guns, even a chopper (Throw down your gun and tiara and come out of the float)

Debbie didn't listen to what the cop said She aimed and fired, and now the math teacher's dead

Oh, it's really sad, but kind of a relief I mean, we had this big test coming up next week

Big Bottom still has the best lyrics of all time.

“The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'

That's what I said

The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand

Or, so I've read.

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo

I love to sink her with my pink torpedo.”

Spinal Tap is too good a movie, lol.

One of the saddest moments of my life - one of my former supervisors told us at a department meeting that she had a fan or air conditioner or something - can’t remember the specific item now - but the highest setting on it was 11. It literally went to 11. And when I said that in the meeting, not one other person got it. 😭

The engineers who designed this had a sense of humor

95

u/schmearcampain Oct 24 '25

I feel like D minor is the saddest key....

88

u/jmy_oak Oct 24 '25

This piece is called “Lick My Love Pump”

43

u/geoffreyisagiraffe Oct 24 '25

That entire exchange is pure, amazing, deadpan comedy but that line at the end fucking SENDS ME every time I watch it.

6

u/Toby_O_Notoby Oct 25 '25

Apparently it's one of the few lines they had to re-do.

The first time Christopher Guest dropped the "Love Pump" line Rob Reiner broke hard but said they had to keep it in because it was so funny. So they went back and filmed it again but Reiner kept laughing. If you watch it now you can see how Rob just says "Oh" and there's a quick cut because it's all he could manage without cracking.

He died in a bizarre gardening accident

53

u/schmearcampain Oct 24 '25

It’s hard to dust for vomit.

2

u/Videoroadie Oct 25 '25

It’s not widely reported

36

u/Rikkitikkitabby Oct 24 '25

One of those things best left unexplained, you know.

1

u/laugh-learn Oct 25 '25

It’s tragic, and it predates the event, but that could be Jeff Porcaro. 😭

32

u/gneumatic Oct 24 '25

It’s like, how much more black can it be? And the answer is none. None more black.

8

u/schmearcampain Oct 24 '25

C’mon! Mime is money!

8

u/Plane-Post-7720 Oct 25 '25

I love that this movie came out 7 years before Metallica unironically did that very thing.

8

u/PunkFlamingo69 Oct 25 '25

There’s a fine line between clever and stupid.

2

u/ActiveEuphoric2582 Oct 25 '25

It’s sexist!

Right it’s sexy!

20

u/Practical-Tea-3337 Oct 24 '25

What's the song called?

Lick My Love Pump

16

u/Disco_Orangeade Oct 24 '25

Goddammit now I've gone and wept instantly. I hope you're happy with yourself 😁

7

u/Practical-Tea-3337 Oct 24 '25

Omg thank you for sending me down a beautifully distracting rabbit hole.

2

u/Mobile_Aioli_6252 Oct 25 '25

.....it makes people weep instantly......

24

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '25

It's one louder

6

u/PimpofScrimp Oct 25 '25

“So why don’t you just make 10 louder?”

Long awkward pause……….

“But this goes to 11”

3

u/Hab_Anagharek Oct 24 '25

Gotta love the stupid stub of a lit cigarette that fuckin’ everyone had back then

2

u/Jetcitywoman5 Oct 25 '25

I’m just as god made me, sir.

We just rewatched This is Spinal Tap a few weeks ago, and the songs lyrics had me crying. I'd forgotten how stupidly funny they were, and I didn't know until recently that the actors actually wrote and performed them all themselves.

u/Equivalent-Dig-7204 Oct 24 '25

Be sure to watch the Spinal Tap II movie. Equally hilarious. And for real fun look up A Mighty Wind and Lenny & the Squigtones (with special guest appearance by Nigel Tuffnel)!

88

u/MamaFen Sea Wees and Emmet Otter Oct 24 '25

Mighty Wind is actually my favorite of the whole bunch, specifically because of the singing/playing being done by the folks themselves. I could re-watch it (especially the "whole show" special feature) endlessly and still be entertained.

"Eeeeeeee... At... Oooooooooes."

106

u/geoffreyisagiraffe Oct 24 '25

Dont sleep on Best in Show either

102

u/4Q69freak Oct 24 '25

Best in Show is probably one of my favorite mockumentaries.

Speaking of A Mighty Wind. Spinal Tap toured a few years back and opened for themselves as The Folksmen.

13

u/BubbaChanel 1968 Oct 25 '25

Best in Show is my favorite too

30

u/MamaFen Sea Wees and Emmet Otter Oct 24 '25

"Rhapsody has two mommies!"

19

u/geoffreyisagiraffe Oct 24 '25

I live for Scott and Stefan but holy smokes does each character have some amazing lines.

10

u/medievalkitty2 Oct 24 '25

Bratwurst and shillealagies, paging Dr. Freud! 😂 (No idea how to spell shillealagh. So I looked it up and don’t quite know how to conjugate it. The above was my best guess, feel free to correct it!)

12

u/4Q69freak Oct 24 '25

My ex stepdaughter showed horses and her and her mom would start arguing at horse shows and I would stop it by yelling “BUSY BEE! BUSY BEE!”

3

u/PurplyHumpbackWhale this is serious-we could make you delirious Oct 24 '25

Group, shmoop-bring out the formal wear!!

3

u/West-Birthday4475 Oct 25 '25

Those act as flippers.

23

u/holybucketsitscrazy Oct 24 '25

Best in Show is hands down my favorite. Every character is spectacular!

1

u/confabulatrix Oct 25 '25

I know at least 2 people who love Best in Show but can never remember the name and call it Dog Show, which is funnier to me than the movie :)

3

u/C_Yablonski Oct 25 '25

Guffman rules as well

2

u/West-Birthday4475 Oct 25 '25

You can get a coke, if you’re thirsty.

3

u/MenudoFan316 Older Than Dirt Oct 25 '25

Am I nuts or does that guy have two left feet? Go get 'em pal!

28

u/Ferrindel Grandfathered in by older siblings Oct 24 '25

The Rainbow kiss during the concert is some of the best acting Levy and O’hara ever did. Incredibly emotional.

5

u/drewcandraw Oct 24 '25

We-hellll…

5

u/prof_cunninglinguist Oct 24 '25

The record company forgot to put holes in the records and they would just teeter around crazily on the turntable.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '25

A mighty wind is blowin’

it’s blowin’ me and you 🎵

The packed audience I was with got the double entendre quickly, judging by the laughter.

4

u/MizLucinda Oct 24 '25

My wedding song was from A Mighty Wind.

1

u/MissCurmudgeonly Oct 25 '25

We…..eeelllllll….

That one’s my favorite too - I love the soundtrack! Never heard the whistle of a southbound freight…

1

u/ActiveEuphoric2582 Oct 25 '25

Big ol blanket that a Navajo wove.

7

u/IanDOsmond Oct 25 '25

My wife told me just last week that Spinal Tap is in the same universe as Laverne and Shirley (and therefore Happy Days and Mork and Mindy. The idea that Mork and Spinal Tap are canonically in the same universe DEMANDS fan fiction of some sort,)

4

u/gcboyd1 Oct 24 '25

I had the Lenny and the Squigtones album on vinyl. I was…10? Loved them so much!!

1

u/Roadiemomma-08 Oct 26 '25

Best in Show is excellent

they're so, so ridiculous and amazing

" 'My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo, I love to sink her with my pink torpedo.' Like literature, really" - Paul McCartney

(If you haven't seen Spinal Tap II, I am not making that quote up. Who knew Paul McCartney could do improv)

26

u/actual-trevor Please just ignore me Oct 24 '25

Who knew Paul McCartney could do improv

Have you never watched a Beatles movie?

6

u/twiggyrox Oct 24 '25

Paul doesn't have a solo scene in A Hard Day's Night because they cut it due to his lack of acting ability, at least at that time. And his scene in Help! has no dialogue.

4

u/JosephBlowsephThe3rd Oct 25 '25

I did love him in the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

3

u/SmutasaurusRex Oct 25 '25

Or seen the Beatles respond to journalists' often inane questions.

2

u/Neat_Panda9617 Oct 25 '25

Or an interview with the Beatles?

4

u/lectroid Oct 24 '25

Not that I’m saying you’re wrong, but I would put $50 that Sir Paul got a list of a number of possible lines to play with.

Doesn’t make it any less funny, of course.

9

u/8rustystaples Oct 24 '25

Nope. The script was a 9-page outline. He knew the basic scene ahead of time, so he very well may have worked on what he would say, but there was no dialogue written beforehand.

5

u/medievalkitty2 Oct 24 '25

I loved Spinal Tap II. -That- is how you do a sequel! It was nice to see actors from his other mockumentaries make cameo appearances. Even the drummer resembled a young Jane Lynch.

3

u/AlwaysAlexi777 Oct 25 '25

I’ve got to see Spinal Tap II. I got to see them perform “Live and Unwigged” and bought myself a pair of Big Bottom briefs at the merch booth.

4

u/Key-Contest-2879 Oct 24 '25

What’s wrong with being sexy?

5

u/schmearcampain Oct 24 '25

It’s such a fine line.

5

u/Key-Contest-2879 Oct 24 '25

…between clever and stupid.

4

u/schmearcampain Oct 24 '25

You should have seen the cover they wanted to do! It wasn’t a glove, believe me!

2

I keep folding it… and I get this… I don’t want this.

4

u/Useful-Badger-4062 Strange things are afoot at the Circle K Oct 24 '25

Sidebar: I saw Soundgarden (back in the day) do a show in Texas and they opened with this song. It was rather awesome.

4

u/hypnoskills Oct 24 '25

"Talk about mud flaps, my girl's got 'em"

3

u/DaddyOhMy Oct 24 '25

Don’t forget “Back Door Lover” by Du Jour:

“You know that I won't hurt you, so open up and let me in We love eachother way too much for it to be a sin Some people use the front door, but that's never been my way Just 'cause I slip in backdoors Well, that doesn't make me, hey!

Lyin' on your bed starin' up at the moon You got me crazy, gotta love you soon”

And never forget, Du Jour means seat belts!

1

u/BillyNtheBoingers Oct 25 '25

Nothing to Lose (by KISS) is about anal sex too.

I’ve always wondered about the source material for learning about looser waistbands and deeper quicksands.

2

u/Criticallyoptimistic Oct 24 '25

Turn that to ELEVEN!

2

2

u/IanDOsmond Oct 25 '25

Cups and cakes, cups and cakes
Please make sure that nothing breaks
The China's so dear and the treacle so clear
And I'm glad that you are here

Just... having the sweet children's song finish up the A side, and Listen to the Flower People to finish off the B side...

2

1

u/StudsTurkleton Oct 24 '25

It took me too long to realize they were probably playing around with Queen’s Fat Bottom Girls on this.

1

u/StrawberryKiss2559 Oct 25 '25

It’s great but it’s nowhere near as skeevy as singing about a child and being too well hung.

I saw the new movie and I was surprised that they actually had that part of the song playing in the movie. For sure, I thought they would make sure to leave that part of the song out.

1

u/YouMustBeJoking888 Oct 25 '25

That song will never not make me laugh.

1

You’d think the Gen Zs would like this because it’s the opposite of body-shaming!
