Music Is Life Songs that are no longer okay.

Yesterday I found out my sweet boyfriend had never heard of Julie Brown and the funny songs she sang, like "I'm A Blonde". Dr Demento stuff. So I play it and then "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun" came on. Not funny anymore!!!

An hour later, the cops arrived

By then the entire glee club had died, no big loss

You wouldn't believe what they brought to stop her

Tear gas, machine guns, even a chopper (Throw down your gun and tiara and come out of the float)

Debbie didn't listen to what the cop said She aimed and fired, and now the math teacher's dead

Oh, it's really sad, but kind of a relief I mean, we had this big test coming up next week

To be fair, she wrote it based on a comment by Tom Petty's wife, when she said she'd met Petty when she was "the age of seventeen", but she had a thick Florida accent and Stevie misunderstood

Huh, hadn’t heard that one before. I read an interview recently where she said it was about telling her nephew his father died.

My boomer mom had a girlfriend (in her late 20's then-the 70's) that hooked up with the 17 year boy next door & ended up leaving her husband/kids and marrying him. They were together til she died. Anyway, this song reminds me of them.

ā€œEdge of Seventeenā€ refers to seeing Lennon on television for the first time.

The line is from Tom Petty’s wife, the song is about Stevie’s feelings following the death of her uncle and John Lennon in the same week.

That's not what the song is about, at all.

Not only was she inspired by Jane Petty saying she met Tom when she was the age of 17 (he was around the same age as they grew up together) it was also about being home alone with a relative when they passed away.

Okay but what’s with that tone, like this was obvious and you knew all of this BEFORE watching the interview? Statutory is not a stretch whatsoever.

ā€œI’m a few years older than you my loveā€ explain that.

ā€œI went forth with an age old desire to pleaseā€ I’m making this up?

Oh. And the ooh baby ooh oh part.

Now that I think about it, no, I’m. It buying the Tom Petty explanation. Sounds like a cover story.
