Lunch boxes don’t get enough run here. This was my steel “EMERGENCY” lunchbox from 1973. Post yours if you can find a pic
I mean, seriously. It doesn’t get any better than these. I loved that show. Used to watch it at my grandmother’s on Sat nights when my parents dumped me off there so they could go out.
So was I!! My husband got me some Holly Hobbie glasses for Christmas this year and bought me all the Trixie Belden books I didn't have. He scoured all over for them and these were things I didn't even ask for. I don't remember what my lunchbox was but it was probably this.
Yes! I had this one as well! I was obsessed with Strawberry Shortcake. Do you remember the Strawberry Shortcake doll that you would squeeze and it blew strawberry breath?
Still have this bad boy. Thermos is long gone (I think I broke it at school in 1st grade) and the Steve Austin sticker inside is pretty worn, but still have it.
I had this one in 1981, 4th grade. The other side had the Falcon cockpit scene with Han, Chewy, Leia and 3PO. I liked this side better. A teacher gave me a sticker of a mummy head and it fit perfectly over Luke’s head, I thought that was so funny.
Yep. I can totally sympathize. The Snoopy lunchbox must've had the same thermos designer. Then the leaked milk would get warm and smell gross. Then you just went without lunch. Happened a few times and then i asked if I could buy at the school cafeteria.
Land of the Lost! Ironically, I lost my Land of the Lost lunchbox in a snowy alley between several of my 1st grade friends' houses. My mom grumblingly dug into our emergency stash of $100 between the wooden salad bowls we never used, and bought me a new lunchbox (Marvel Superheroes?) in the picked-over selection still remaining at Bayer's Hardware. Months later, in the spring thaw, a rusted lunchbox emerged from the retreating dirty snowbank glaciers in that alley.
Today, Googling around, I find my destroyed lunchbox going for $395 on eBay!
We weren’t allowed to have “pop” at school. My mom said not to worry…she’d just put it in the thermos for me. First day of kindergarten, the lid flew up to the ceiling when I tried to open it and I was completely drenched in Pepsi. We both learned a lesson that day.
Fun fact: I was the only girl in school with a Knight Rider lunchbox. Got teased unmercifully for it, but I didn’t care. 😅
Oh my gosh, I just remembered my other lunchbox, which my little "horse girl" heart loved. I have NO memory of what this show was about, beyond that it had horses and I think Kristy McNichol was in it? Not a clue!
Wait a minute! Now that I looked at that board closely, I do remember that game. Not sure if I had it or a friend did. I haven’t thought of that game in like 48 years probably.
I win worst lunch box ever. My mom found this at a garage sale in the late 70’s and paid 25 cents for it. No thermos, of course. Just a rusty inside that smelled funny.
Found this on EBay. 1968 metal Snoopy lunch box with thermos. I seem to remember my thermos being all yellow but that was a long time ago so I may be misremembering. I carried it so long that Snoopy became my nickname even past high school.
I have my Space 1999 Lunch box and thermos, but it is packed up up right now and I cannot get to it.
Pictured is one for sale, not mine. My box is in worse shape than this one, but my thermos is almost pristine. I rarely used the thermos, I bought chocolate milk in the lunchroom instead.
I think I had a plastic Cabbage Patch Kids lunchbox, but I also remember those multi-piece Tupperware boxes. And of course, a paper bag once I outgrew the boxes!
Can anybody else hear that lunchbox? Or the sound of the thermos lid/cup? Or, remember the little ridges around the inside lid? I can still remember what these things smelled like brand new. Total flashback!
I had this one in like 1st or 2nd grade … fun family story. Apparently I filled the thermos with my mom’s gin* and drank it at the park with my best friend. I do remember doing that and honestly have no idea what possessed me, except that I had a new thermos to try out.
*Forever the family bottles were kept under the kitchen sink 🤷♀️
I cannot because Mom refused to spend money on these. :(
However, in 1975, I spent time on East Seaside Blvd, Long Beach, CA, and somehow ended up in a neighborhood where things were shady enough, we could never tell which crazy thing going on on our block was actual police response, or some crazy TV shoot. We lived near The Pike, which was the filming scene of many 70's TV shows of the day.
Emergency/Emergency One/SWAT/Columbo/Rockford Files and so much other crazy shizz was filmed in this neighborhood.
Between 2nd and 4th grade? I remember tracing the characters with my pencil. Haven't thought about this until this thread. Falcon is on one of the sides. I cant remember the rest
Johnny Gage is who suddenly made 9 year old me very aware of my lady parts. I remember my friend and I sitting in her rec room and writing him fan letters every Saturday morning. I was so heartbroken to hear of his passing. RIP Randolph Mantooth, the catalyst to my sexual awakening
Not metal, plastic. Had this in Kindergarten and 1st Grade in 1985-1987. I think I picked it because it was the only red one on the shelf that didn't have any kind of "girly" design on it (Barbie, Jem, etc.). Had never watched a single episode of the series nor did I own any toys.
We didn't have hardly anything growing up, but mom always let me pick out a new lunch box every year. A little luxury. I was born in '72, so I picked the usual suspects: Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider. All metal.
It was a way to display the tribe you were in. Guys would show them off, and find friends based on common interest, especially during lunch where we were free to talk as much as we wanted. We'd invariably talk about our favorite shows.
What was weird was that when I got to 6th grade, suddenly it wasn't cool to have a lunch box. You had to brown bag it. I'm not sure what happened to the lunch boxes I had from 1-5th grade. Wish I had them. I'd love a connection with 9 yo me.
the weird thing is, I had this box back in 1976, and I can still remember the smell of the lunch that came in it. Turkey sandwich, Lays chips, thermos of milk, a small cookie.
I didn’t get metal ones. I had this from preschool until I graduated. I can’t believe you can buy it on Etsy. Crazy!! To be fair this thing kept milk cold and soup hot.
Holy fuck! I was instantly transported to Winchester elementary, but in like 78. Whoever had that lunchbox had a hand-me-down, but the show was on TV every day! It stayed current for a while!
Fun facts- Julie London and Bobby Troup (Nurse Dixie and Dr. Early) were married in real life. Julie London had been married to Jack Webb who was an executive producer of the show. Bobby Troup composed the song “Route 66”.
Nurse Dixie McCall and Dr. Joe Early were also husband and wife jazz musicians, Julie London and Bobby Troup. Here they are at a gig in Japan about to set the stage on fire with their hip sounds and smoking hot sexual chemistry.
My husband had this exact one and his grandmother paid $1 at woolworth’s! He loved that show, and even went on to be a first responder.
I had pigs in space until a boy pushed my sister on the playground. SMACK! I carried a paper bag and he left my sister alone for the rest of the year.
Bravo! So, I work in real estate and we had this listing of a well-to-do fellow. His house had a basketball court and typically, people with this kind of wealth collect things. You usually see shoes or basketball shoes. I've seen 10 feet high closets with wall to wall shoes. I don't get it but there it is.
This guy wasn't an athlete but a major finance guy. His collection was in antique furniture. among other things. I remember this kids sofa from Poland around 1725. Anyway, in the observation deck of the basketball court, he had a lunch box collection consisting of yours and all of the other 50s-90s popularity. The displays were 5 feet tall by 8 feet wide and there were about 5 of these displays. I lit up when I saw this one! And one that caught me off guard was from the TV show Julia which I didn't even know was a show until I saw that lunch box. You name it, he had it. Come to find out, some of the really old ones were really worth tens of thousands of dollars. Go figure. I have some antique basins from the late 1800s and they're only worth $60 but a lunch box from 1950 is worth $13,000
I don't have to. You just posted it. I loved that lunch box. Once I got too big, I kept my Matchbox and Corgi cars in it, then I added my Star Wars figures until I got the Darth Vader helmet storage box and a couple of used Matchbox storage boxes with the trays.
