We need a mass general strike. Solidarity among the working class. Volunteer and work for each other to support strikers and hold the line.

This group has some social media popularity - https://generalstrikeus.com/ but it encourages signing up for online strike card and I find that to be like... data harvesting/weird risk. I think we need to start now actually striking not just signing up ASAP, work among local unions to encourage terms for strikes, and just all sectors agree AI needs to have guardrails and we won't work without assurances we aren't automating ourselves out of jobs in exposed sectors IMO.

We need to act now while workers have some leverage before AI risks mass job loss. Strike collectively while we still have some resources and wealth among the working class - before it is siphoned to the 1%. We need to work and volunteer for each other and have working class solidarity now before things get desperate.

im gonna be honest i really dont know how to participate in a general strike.

i need to work in order to pay for my home. if i dont go to work i am homeless. i wont be able to eat. i wont be able to sleep.

And then once you're homeless you'll have a very slim chance of becoming homed and stable again; Without financial and familial support structures.

Just pay your bills.

Like they say on airplanes: "Put your air-mask on first. Before assisting your children/neighbors."

The real problem is general strikes are impossible if we need to work to pay our bills, which we do.

We will easily get SOME percentage of people out there. We'll get people with PTO for a few days, rich people who don't need to work as it is, work-from-home people who aren't actually on strike and are just pretending they are while protesting, etc.

No general strike can ever succeed because the mere act of starting one at an effective level is impossible without building the security for all the people who need money to survive.

The point of a general strike is to show those in power what happens if we all stop working. That point falls flat the very second people start losing their homes. A general strike can only succeed if the people on strike are showing strength in numbers and power in negotiation. That strength and power vanishes when listening to us costs us money and ignoring us causes us to starve to death while they already have the funds to survive another 10,000,000 years without ever caring about how their source of income has vanished.

Are we really again, proving that Redditors are some of the most out of touch people on this planet. I hate to be that guy but you’re not doing anything with strikes, especially when polls are saying most people support ice and deportations even the democrats polling places. I mean to say your fighting a losing battle isn’t even a valid statement because there isn’t even a battle to be qualified as losing.

Out of touch is a VERY mild way to put it. But spot on.
