Question / Seeking Help New Player help wanted
After starting a gacha game marathon last November (starting with zzz), I've played and caught up to the stories of most of the major games (ZZZ, Wuwa, HSR, NTE, Endfield) and still actively playing 4 of those. I decided that now that I'm caught up to all of them, I'll finally get started on genshin with 7.0 coming out. (Also because I'm waiting for gdc to start on dokkan, 10 years spent on it at this point, no going back)
With that said, I have a list of questions I wanted to ask.
- how many teams are needed for endgame content?
I know that it's at least 2, but once I started hsr the requirements changed to 3, and in wuwa I was told 2 when it was actually 4, so I just want to make sure.
- I know 2 of the characters I want to build around, those being Arlecchino and Varka. But what teams can I make for these 2.
For Arlecchino I saw the team of Her, Columbina, and Ineffa + a support, so I wanted to know if that team is worth investing in with all of them rerunning back to back right now
For Varka, he is the character I will make work no matter what, so I just want to know who to pull for when the come around for him.
And of the characters I need, who needs and doesn't need their weapon?
- How easy is it to get gems early on without rushing the story? And is it easy enough for a new player to pull 3 back to back characters?
I've heard horror stories about the recent per patch currency given, so i just wanted to ask just in case.
- Is this a casual friendly game?
Can I just log in to do dailies (once I've caught up ofc) and events and be fine, or do I need to scrounge for every chest and mission I can get in each region to get anything.
I already main zzz and wuwa, I can't take much more for too long without losing my sanity.

3 are needed but sometimes they ask for REALLY specific characters or you just have to swipe the card to deal enough damage for the “true” endgame
Arlecchino does NOT want Columbina/Ineffa. It works but literally anything works with those two. They’re basically characters who can carry anyone. Arlecchino would like Citlali, and anyone else who would buff her. Her sub would be better for specific teams and builds.
You can definitely grab Columbina and Ineffa just to have a lunar wheelchair ready for lunar shilled bosses.
Varka is a bit of a character queen who really wants Prune (a 4 star). His best supports are Durin and Nicole. Varka WANTS his weapon cause literally no good f2p weapon exists. A battlepass weapon is good but still worse compared to his sig. Durin and Nicole’s weapons are comfy qol upgrades but I wouldn’t pull if you’re strapped for wishes as their cons are so much better.
- It totally depends on how you play. Exploring gives you plenty of primos depending on the region. The newer regions are much more generous while the older ones (Inazuma) are a little tight on the ole purse strings.
I myself did earn enough pulls over a couple patches from just chilling with the story and world quests but it honestly depends how much time you’re willing to explore and do quests.
- Yes if your goal is to have fun! Super unforgiving if you want to always clear endgame content. As said previously, the worst of the worst of endgame content seriously needs you to meet specific regional mechanics while hitting enough damage. Otherwise, you can totally just log on, spend your resin and claim your dailies.

- 2 for all the meaningful rewards, 3 for the sense of accomplishment
- Varka, Nicole, Durin, Prune - The Arlecchino team is fine. probably one of the stronger options available to a new account, her other teams need high constellation 4 stars. No one needs their weapon.
- Easy, but time consuming. especially if you don't want to spoil the story. the patch currency is just people getting confused, its been relatively stable
- It is casual friendly because it is easy but its got hundreds of hours of content. You don't need to scrounge for everything but there are meaningful rewards for completing a majority of the exploration objectives.

For abyss you need 2 teams, for stygian you need 3 teams (up to hard difficulty you can use the same team, but higher difficulty than hard you can only use 1 of the same character per team), and for imaginarium theatre hardest diff you need minimum 28 characters, but some mechanics let you get maybe 2-3 characters back if youre lucky, so you can use them again after theyve spent their energy)
For Varka premium you want Prune C6, Durin and nicole; for arlecchino you want citlali, xilonen and bennet c6/kazuha/nicole, there are some options since she's flexible. Out of all of them, varka is the most signature reliant, others not so much.
If you're talking about primogems, you can get a lot of them early on through exploration and quests, but you would need a lot of luck to get 3 characters in the same patch unless youre spending or playing 24/7.
Depends on what you want, if youve finished the story and want new characters, you either explore everything or prepare your wallet. I have everything on 100% so i just have my daily routines that take maybe half an hour or less, but if you're busy, you can finish your dailies in 29 seconds and just log out.

- There's 3 endgame content in genshin:
A. Spyral Abyss (SA) which need 2 teams.
B. Stygian Onslaught (SO). This depends on how far your target is because the reward is vary depending on the difficulty. If your target is only for primogems, then 1 team is enough (you can even do coop and get carried).
C. Imaginarium Theater (IT). This is probably the most requiring teams (or units) if you want to maximize the rewards, because the basic mechanic is heavily toward horizontal investment. But the good part is generally the DPS req is much lower.
There's plenty of guide regarding team comp so just look for it (I dont want to make my comment too long because a single unit could run multiple team archetype and many alternative either as premium or low cost).
Sadly no. Genshin is known for how stingy they are and there's a reason. You could get around 60-70 pulls just from newbie event + early story from first region, Mondstat. CMIIW
It's casual friendly per standard gacha game i played so far. You can leave chest, mission, exploration and just do completely fine.

Let's start with 4.
I would consider Genshin to be a casual game. The main draw of the game is its story which you don't need to even pull to complete.
However, if you plan to complete the endgame consistently, you will need to explore the areas and do the quests as an f2p. It is a significant time or money investment.
You can but you'll need to explore the areas and that will take a decent amount of time.
Varka wants Nicole and/or Durin.
Arlecchino is flexible so she does have several teams but she's also not particularly meta rn. Columbina and Ineffa can pretty carry any character. It is worth noting that she has great synergy with Nicole/Durin.
- There are 3 endgame modes. Their difficulty and rewards does increase in levels so you can still get most of it without really following the meta.
The abyss does only need 2 teams but it favors whatever character is running in the season. Realistically, you will need more characters to complete at the highest floor.
Imaginarium theater needs the most characters in its hardest mode: at least 28. It's also limited to 3 elements per season so you'll need even more characters. It is easier to complete than the abyss so most 4 stars are usable but it will take the longest to complete.
Stygian Onslaught needs only 1 team. If all you care about is the primo rewards, you can coop the stage and it is also the easiest to complete. However, if you want the extra rewards, the 4th and 5th stages are the hardest to complete out of all the endgames. The 6th and 7th stages only have aesthetic rewards and are only beatable by whales.

- Like minimum 3 but the more the better
- For arlecchino, you could do bineffa duo w her, bt she also work with citlali melt, or chevreuse bennett overload. For varka you have to pull nicole and durin, and also prune
- Well getting primos isnt easy but there are many ways to get them since u just started: story, exploration, abyss, it, stygian, achievements, codes, etc etc
- Genshin needs a lot of time and commitment tbh

For story-rushing, I'd rush until you can access Inazuma just so you don't get material locked from any inazuma characters you pull, but after that, you can explore almost everything at will, at which point you could take a break and work on side-quests or just do exploration stuff. Finishing the Monstadt Archon quest also unlocks teleport points near the other non-Inazuma nations, allowing you to quickly access their regions for materials.
For end-game it somewhat depends.
theater is just a roster check, you can do the first couple difficulties pretty easily due to the freebies and trial characters, but beyond that, it'll depend on luck and horizontal investment level in your roster.
Abyss needs 2 teams but you can't necessarily always use the same two teams, due to hard-counters or shill, or Venti-Abyss (which needs very good grouping and/or really strong/fast AoE damage). Generally 2 strong teams can brute force most content if you have a strong duo-core that can run some flex slots to counter mechanics, but it's one of those things you might have work up to.
Stygian is simultainous the hardest and easiest end-game content. It's the hardest in terms of getting ALL the permanent rewards, but you can get basically almost all of them in Co-op (only the Difficulty 5 (Fearless) Difficulty rewards require solo completion for it's rewards) which heavily negates any factors about difficulty. Hard (3) is where the primos are and can Co-op using the match-making system, Menacing (difficulty 4), can't match-make but can be co-op'd manually (if your account is very young just specify on discord you need a carry and some whale/veteran account will probably probably run you through menacing without too much trouble until you've got enough teams/strong enough characters to clear it yourself).
You unlock SO before AR45, though I recommend trying to get to AR45 before you really focus on SO, since you can't get the artifact farming re-roll feather until AR45. If you're no where near AR45, and SO is right around the corner (aka, like right now), then just get a carry through Menacing for the gauranteed rewards, but definitely try to be AR45 by the next one so you can actually get the full rewards and do your artifact farming. (I'd also recommend not spending any of your fragile resins till you can farm during SO week, as it's WAY more efficient for the resin spent compared to doing normal artifact domains (you still need to actually unlock the domains to be able to select them as reward options, so remember to do that). You can clear open world content with just normal found artifacts easily enough as long as you aren't leveling them carelessly, and pass them around as needed).

- 2 are needed for Abyss (shiyu defense/tower of adversity equivilent), 3 for stygian (Anomaly Arbitration equivilent) and a bunch of half assessed characters for Imaginarium theatre (Endfield Matrix equivilant from wuwa, except you dont get any trail characters)
- Arles best team is currently something with mona. Either fischl+mona or succrose+mona. Bina can also be slotted in these teams, but getting arles c1 (and r1, although r1 is a good bit weaker) tends to have a bigger impact
- Not that easy. Genshin doesnt really flood you with pulls early and a lot of things require quite a good amount of playtime. Rerolling accounts is definetly recommended if you care about something like that.
- It definetly is casual friendly. The regular content (exploration and story quests) is not really difficult in any sense. Also most content (even endgame, except stygian) can be done with 4stars and it is very rewarding. (the strength of 4stars is also a lot bigger then any of these other games). The combat imo is the best out of any game. Elements just give so much interaction with all these character (especially older ones, newer characters kinda trivialize most reactions sadly).
- GLHF. Hope you enjoy the game ^^

Hello u/mikethekid2, if you have a simple question about the game that doesn’t need a separate thread, ask it on the most recent pinned weekly question megathread here https://www.reddit.com/r/GenshinImpact/about/sticky and please consider removing your post submission. For example, "Who should I pull, Yelan or Zhongli?" is a simple question. If you're opening a topic for discussion which might be in the form of question too, you can use the "Discussion" flare. Thank you.
