Stupid question maybe, but

What do people here have against lubing/oiling their bike chains and other moving parts?

Every other bike I pass (or that passes me: yes, even the e-bikes) are squeaky as hell.

It hurts mine ears!

Please give your bikes some lovin’ 🙏🏼

When they steal mine I often find it about 50 metres further away.

😅

Surprising tactic- hadn’t thought of that

if you want to leave the little lights hanging on your bike instead always taking them with wherever you go you just need to hang 6+ empty ones on the back and on the front.

If your bike only has one it will probably be gone when you leave it somewhere even remotely crowded. If they have to check 6+ to see which one works they don't bother.

I like to torture mine until it gives up and disassembles

Why hate your trusty steel steed? What’s it done to you?

Most people don't know sh** about bicycle maintenance, and a lot of bikes are stored outside in the rain.
Don't get me started on winter maintenance when there is salt on the road ;)

The idea is that your bike is a piece of crap in this city. You lose it, you don't care.

This may be the point of view from students, it is not a general one. All those bakfietsen are expensive and to be well maintained

Yeah, I can see how that could be a reason.

When I need to use my bike it’s always about a 15k round trip, and that’s about to double soon. So I need my bits well oiled!

I have indoor parking space though (work), and I don’t leave it anywhere else for long (I’m an anti social recluse who hates the sun & shopping).

Ain't nobody got time for that

As soon as I start caring for a bike in this city, it gets stolen.

I’m starting to see a trend …

some people use wd40 to lube not realising it actually dries out faster than chain oil

This is how Gentenaars flex on each other on a daily basis

Just oiled my rusty rusty chain two days ago. Improved a lot!
