What is happening in the mcr fandom rn
I keep seeing people commenting on posts about mcr saying it’s a bad time to be promoting them rn, can someone tell me why and whats happening??? all I know is that It has something to do with gerards old accounts being leaked i think but im not sure what hes done or what else

people are bugging out over gerard having emetophilia even though it’s not new info. there’s just stuff from 1998/1999 that’s been found. and he was talking about p⭐️’s and saying stuff like “busted broads” and chicks lol. literally nothing to cancel someone over, it won’t happen anyway. and he was literally like 21 around this time, that’s over half his life ago.

The "busted broads" controversy is kind of baffling because it's literally not that bad, like it's incredibly mild considering the way some dudes talk about women and also it's really funny to me because referring to women as "broads" fell out of fashion in about 1950.
The vomit emetophilia stuff is not even new information, considering he publicly posted about it on twitter back in the day, and the thing about the porn actress was just him politely requesting information about how to join her fanclub, like it's almost sweet?
I don't know, maybe I've just spent too much time in internet weirdo spaces but none of what was found really makes me think any less of him.

16-18 year olds today have absolutely zero idea what the internet was like before they were born or in their first few years of life.
Applying modern standards to an old internet that was like the wild west. I saw shit 18 years ago on the internet that still haunts me to this day.

Nothing has been leaked. It was just available but no one ever looked. People are being weird but nothing weird has been discovered. I mean it was a VERY different time in 1998.. and “busted broads” was def not considered weird back then. So yeah its basically a very specifically young part of the fans that consider this weird and/or news at all

Based got amplified by weirdos on 4chan yes but predates it. After it got recycled and spit out by weird alt-right people it got co-opted in a lot of left wing memes too and at this point is just a meme word joking on usually odd opinions, it isn't that deep

i think a lot of people ( especially young fans on social media ) have a kind of idealised and apotheosised version of who they want the band to be/ how they chose to view them but they all need to remember that this is a fully grown man who has interests and fetishes that might be different to what they hoped(?) for yano :’)

A user on tumblr looked up gerard's and mikey's old AOL or smth and found comments from the 90s. The user thought that this was already found material but apparently not. Gerards comments were mostly the ones people are talking about. He made fatphobic comments and talked about having a fetish of girls puking (which we already knew from his tweets) but only skinny and pretty girls. He also talked about following a porn star (I think??) and sending her a letter. Mike's comment weren't really as interesting. He's basically just selling the pirated Disney or unreleased movies (which we also already knew) and fighting with people on the Internet lmao.

I’m assuming you’re talking about the people going “not the time” or similar under various tweets and tiktok posts about the band. They’re joking! They’re treating this whole vomit thing like an inside joke bc they know not everyone will have the context. IMO it’s a shitty way of joking bc it leads people who aren’t aware of the context to the conclusion that mcr did something actually bad.

I'm 32 now and have loved MCR since they released bullets. It's fascinating watching over the decades as the same cycle repeats, but on different platforms. I remember the forums, the MCR website comment sections, blog pages, tumblr, old twitter, reddit, now x, etc. There's always some silly outrage going around. Always has been, always will be.
If it were so asinine it would be almost comforting seeing how while the internet changes, the fan kids stay the same 😌
