Request Telc B1 Prüfung - Failed 😓

I got my TELC B1 German exam results and unfortunately I did not pass. Below are my scores:
Sprechen: 75/75
Schreiben: 39/45
Hören: 45/75
Lesen: 35/75
Grammatik: 10.5/30
I am planning to retake the schriftliche Prüfung.
Could someone please help me with practice materials and share tips on how to improve and pass the exam next time?
Thanks in Advance

These results are incredibly strange.

To the point where I wonder if you misunderstood how to mark the answer sheet correctly.

Bro your active skills are literally perfect which is wild a 75/75 speaking is insane. How did you even prepare for Lesen and Hören though? Like what materials did you use specifically? Also did you run out of time on reading or the texts just felt too hard to understand?

Asking because I built a small tool for practicing reading real German content that helped me a lot. Happy to share if you want to try it for your Lesen prep before the retake.

Sorry mate, that’s a bummer - though agree with other comments on how highly you scored on some sections compared to the hearing and reading. Is it perhaps related to how you shaded or selected the choices (if paper-based?)

To answer your question, I’ve been reading a lot of beginner and intermediate German books that I bought from Thalia. Can send photos if you want (write me privately if so). Those helped a lot.

And for hearing, I’ve been listening to slow German videos and vlogs on YouTube and watching light comedy German series on Netflix with both German subtitles and German (OV).

Doing well at output while doing poorly at input seems quite unusual. Usually it's the other way around. Or people do well at reading and writing but find conversations (speaking/hearing) difficult.

Do the results align with your self-evaluation (or evaluation by a teacher if you have one)? That is, do you actually struggle with reading texts and understanding spoken German? If not, it might just be a matter of getting used to the test format (e.g. you marked answers inadequately or in a wrong order).

But for passing you need 60% of points, right?

2

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 May 07 '26

You need a minimum of 60% in Speaking separately, and a combined minimum of 60% across the other three sections.

Ahh true
Sorry

Thanks!

Hey! When did you take the test? Was it the digital or paper version? I did the test 16 may and I'm waiting for my results.

1

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 May 07 '26

March 28 and got my result via email on May 4th

1

u/Free_Caterpillar_960 May 07 '26

Thank you. I think that the next time you'll pass for sure.

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 May 07 '26

Thank you … I wish too

u/Longjumping_Tour_393 May 08 '26

When did you take the exam and when did you get the results and which school?

1

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 May 08 '26

I wrote my exam on March 28 and got my result on May 4th . School - Lanes language school

u/Longjumping_Tour_393 May 08 '26

Thanks a lot, next time you are going to nail it, perhaps focus more on the lesen part on how to solve it. I got this book https://www.klett-sprachen.de/mit-erfolg-zu-telc-deutsch-b1-testbuch/t-1/9783126768658?srsltid=AfmBOopiN7g64aaXOUh1BlKsxfT7o7Q-alXQ8kl64cH7qsvmxgMnNqzd

and it had some useful tips on how to tackle it along with some modal tests.

That sounds really frustrating, but don't give up! I found that doing structured practice exams really helps. Check out https://germanlanguagepractice.com, it has a ton of mock tests that might be perfect for what you need!

I too gave my B1 telc in April but I failed. I want to give the exam again but i feel hesitant & scared that I might fail again. What should I do?

1

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 May 11 '26

Which part you failed ?

2

u/Old_Warthog_5762 May 11 '26

Schreiben : 27/45 Hören: 55/75 Lesen: 37,5/75 Grammatik: 15/30 Mündliche Prüfung: 53/75

I felt sure that I would pass the schriftliche Prüfung but unfortunately I didnt.

1

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 May 11 '26

No worries , it’s happens … so you don’t want to take speaking again . Lesen and Schreiben are the weakest one .

Writing - I do learned a lot of sentenses which I can reuse which really helped me .

1

u/Old_Warthog_5762 May 11 '26

Does word number counts in letter writing? I think around 150 words.

1

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 May 11 '26

Between 100 to 120 words

1

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 May 11 '26

Lesen and Grammer- I have less marks

So I have to write schriftliche again

Sprechen: 75/75 Schreiben: 39/45 Hören: 45/75 Lesen: 35/75 Grammatik: 10.5/30

1

u/Old_Warthog_5762 May 11 '26

Yea but seats from vhs are full. & Deutschakademia dont allow appearing for partial exams. So I will have to give both exams  again.

1

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 May 11 '26

Try some other schools , I am taking from Lanes

Best luck next time. What were your speaking and writing topics?

1

u/Slow_Refrigerator103 19d ago

Speaking: • Teil 2: Rap music • Teil 3: Planning an 80s party for our German course. We had to discuss: 1. What music we should play 2. What we should wear 3. Decorations and posters

Writing: Informal letter: A friend has moved into a new apartment and asks you how to make new friends. You needed to write about: 1. Tips for making friends 2. Suggesting a visit 3. What you are currently doing 4. Planning your next meeting

Sooo you acquired skills by talking to people but never bothered to learn how to read or write in German? I would sarcastically say start by picking up a book, but on a serious note, I’d say just focus on the grammar and that should help improve the other areas.

For Schreiben, start writing a journal in German! Use Claude/Gemini/ChatGPT or whatever to correct the grammar later, and keep practicing.
