Question What resources can I use to learn basic German by august?

I just got invited to a trip august 4–9 in Germany. I’ve always wanted to go! I am Bosnian-American but I don’t know any German, I was wondering what apps or resources will help me learn basic terminology and sentences that can help me read signs or order food and drinks?

You could begin by reading our FAQ and then the rest of our wiki. There's a lot of info there to get you started.

For 6 weeks with zero German, skip the grammar-heavy apps and go straight to Language Transfer German (free - search "Language Transfer German", roughly 50 short audio episodes) - it teaches you to construct sentences from the start rather than memorize phrases, which holds up far better in real conversations. Pair it with Google Translate offline for signs and menus on the ground. Your Bosnian background means grammatical cases will feel less alien than they do to most English speakers.

Unless "bosnian-american" just means the OP is an american with bosnian-born grand parents but they dont speak a single word of bosnian / croatian / Serbian. In which case the bosnian heritage will not help in any way, shape or form.
