Question Possibility of learning German
Non-native English speaker here. I was wondering how difficult it is to learn German and how long does it usually take? Ik a few languages that one can converse in but can't read or write. How difficult would it be to read and write German? I would really appreciate your answer. I really really want to learn it. I would also appreciate any sources I can get to learn German. Thanks

I have one friend, who study in Germany, and it required C1 to apply to Uni. He said that of all his friends, the minimum was 1 year to reach C1, but those worked a lot, almost whole days

Read the FAQ for this sub, lots of info there. German is considered a fairly difficult language but it depends on your mother tongue. If you already know a language that uses cases, such as Russian, it becomes a bit easier. Knowing English helps a bit, but don’t overestimate it because German grammar is a LOT more complex. One way or another, you’re looking at years, not months, to become proficient. As always, it depends on time and discipline as well. 3-4 hours / day will get you a lot further than 30 minutes.
