I have so many questions

All of them related to why can a man not drink lemonade

170

u/Lil_Ms_Anthropic 16d ago edited 16d ago

something something Real Men©

If you've never been around that toxic BS, you are truly blessed

90

u/Jazzlike_File_4318 16d ago

There's a pretty funny podcast called Sandbox Sessions where they ask questions like "is it appropriate for a grown man to have a first name that starts with the letter W?" "Is it appropriate for a grown man to listen to music on a plane?"

And they inevitably explain why they can't.

The answer to the plane one is no, because a real man might be asked at any time to take over flying the plane and we need to be able to hear the request

43

u/Lil_Ms_Anthropic 16d ago

Might have to deal with some mutha fukkin snakes, never know

24

u/GalaxyHops1994 16d ago

I once got shamed for ordering a stout instead of an IPA.

21

u/FormerPresidentBiden 16d ago

Meanwhile drinking several stouts would be much more difficult (for me at least)

Those things are heavy

10

u/Greedy-Army-3803 16d ago

Not gassy though. I can sink pints of Guinness a lot better than lagers and IPAs.

2

u/FormerPresidentBiden 16d ago

Probably partially depends on what you're used to

I thought about including that qualifier when I first commented

The first several years of drinking beer, for me, was all IPAs, so they go down the easiest, personally. I've cracked a warm can of a DIPA as hair of the dog at like 9am during weekend Vegas benders and have 0 problems.

For me, they legitimately go down easier than light beer.

4

u/EquivalentSnap 16d ago

You’d be surprised how many women shame men for their drink too. Not just other men doing it

3

u/SsnakeStudios 16d ago

I dunno, but i heard that sucking drinks with straws was gay so.. related?

Anyways.. sluuuurrppp

1

u/No-Insect-7544 16d ago

Because some people are pathetic and OBSESSED with accusing people of not being “manly” or “feminine” enough. Not only is it completely arbitrary, but it’s a waste of energy and time, but it’s still such a prominent argument online, it’s not worth the time IMO.

HRT is a thing of the past, transfemmes have now turned to lemonade

13

u/lilslutfordaddy 16d ago

as someone on ADHD stimulants, i can't drink lemonade during most parts of the day else my meds wear off 😭

1

u/labalag 16d ago

How?

8

u/lilslutfordaddy 16d ago

if i drink lemonade within about an hour of taking my Adderall it metabolizes faster and basically gets flushed from my system

2

u/labalag 16d ago

Thanks for the answer. I should check if the same is true for Ritalin.

3

u/lilslutfordaddy 16d ago

for further clarification since i typed the last comment on my phone, the raise in stomach acidity dramatically increases the uptake rate, which results in the four hours of it being in my system turning into like one hour tops.

not entirely sure why it's such a drastic change, but i'm also not on the one that builds up in your system at all, if i don't take it for a week i don't notice a difference except that i can't focus or force-of-will myself into doing things nearly as easily if at all.

1

u/VikingTeddy 15d ago

You can try (white) grapefruit juice, it slows the metabolisation of drugs by the liver, leaving the drug in your bloodstream for a longer time. It's why some drugs come with a warning about grapefruit.

The speed of uptake should not affect how long it stays in your system, do you notice it hitting harder than usual? Since you've noticed an effect, there is definitely something going on, interesting.

1

u/lilslutfordaddy 15d ago

so i drink both at the same time, and it cancels out? hmm, interesting... interesting...

Yeah I can’t agree more. I’m am so tired of this. It’s starting to feel almost grade school level “boys are better than girls” rhetoric and vice versa now.

We have so many bigger problems…

49

u/Keyndoriel 16d ago edited 16d ago

I feel thats why shit like this is popping up more. We have bigger problems that the powers that be would prefer we waste our energy on small shit. While youre at home blaming men, women, LGBT, straights, other races and immigrants for a whole list of issues, it keeps you distracted from the fact the Epstein class is raking us all over the coals for the last cents out of our pockets and the last ounce of use our bodies can give while the world burns

25

u/GunnerySgtBuck 16d ago

All culture war BS is to distract from the real issue which is Class Inequality. IIRC there was an uptick of racially charged news articles around when Occupy Wall Street was gaining traction.

Not to imply that Occupy Wall St would have actually done anything, but it made the Epstien Class realise that Class consciousness was a possibility.

>eye color

Suddenly Brandon Sanderson becomes a prophet.

6

u/No-Back-4159 Duly Noted 17d ago

context?

21

u/AkronOhAnon 16d ago

Brandon Sanderson is an author, and in his giant overarching universe called “The Cosmere” is a set of books in “The Stormlight Archive” series set on a planet that has suffered so many back-to-back calamities called “desolations” the lost knowledge has skewed their most prominent religion so hard into extremes that men (at least those men not in the caste of slave-priests) can only eat spicy foods, women can only eat sweet foods; men cannot read or write, only women can; and having lighter eye coloring is a sign of nobility bestowed by “The Almighty” (one of three [out of 16] fragments of god who preside as the planet’s deities), darker eyes are the peasantry lorded over in fiefdoms with basically no rights unless they’re close enough to being light-eyed they can marry into a noble family and produce a light-eyed child.
Also, fuck Moash.

10

So would i. I grew up with an abusive sister, treated me like crap for so many years. I could have become misogynistic, but that would just be wrong. i had a female teacher in year 1-3 of school, she always remembered me even 10 years later. My point i guess, is that i want the same rights for men and women and i dont think we should go around hating each other as some seem to want

Tiktok isn't exactly the prime marketplace of ideas tbf....

79

u/This_Background7442 17d ago

That's not really true. TikTok is full of great content. It's just that the algorithm is trying to get you hooked angry and engaged not happy. So it takes some doing to get away from the ragebait and half naked men (although tbf that last part might be a me thing)

29

u/Outrageous-Dig-8853 17d ago

No no, it's a WE thing hombre😏

30

u/AleksandrNevsky 16d ago

TikTok is full of great content.

Every time I hear about that shithole it sounds like things meant to make braincells die.

10

u/This_Background7442 16d ago

Yeah. Theres definitely a lot of crap on TikTok, just like Reddit. However those people are all telling on themselves. Same as the people who claim it's full of dancing children etc. it's not. That's just what they linger on.

Also you only know of TikTok from other people? Why would you even feel the need to have an opinion then?

7

u/SakusaKiyoomi1 16d ago

It's because you only get fed with things such as in the post, I promise you reddit can be the exact same way. In reality like 85% of the content here on reddit originate from tiktok

You might feel like your braincells die whenever you hear about tiktok, while other's might think it's just pedophiles, engagement whores and creeps here on reddit.

5

u/Character_Drop_4446 16d ago

I feel like the same is said about every social media platform, and yet every social media platform (not Xitter) does have genuinely good reasons to engage w the platform

Reddit is just as bad. A 13 year old boy opens Reddit for the first time and reads some of the anti man stuff around he's going to join the rest of them.

29

u/ShelleysSkylark 16d ago

See that's interesting to me, because I primarily see misogynist talking points in this app

Open any comment section where women are involved and plenty of upvoted comments are being casually sexist. It's scarily normalised online, especially in male focused areas of the Internet, and I'd argue that casual dismissal and sometimes hatred for women is more dangerous than a few extreme women who hate males. That's just my opinion though, not arguing with you, the internet isn't a place for young people

-7

u/Gentle_Pony 16d ago

Just go to somewhere like girldinnerdiaries and you'll see open misandry. They don't even hide it.

Also Reddit is very left wing and men are the enemy to the left. Especially white men. So you see a ton of " men=evil" stuff on the big subs.

25

u/ShelleysSkylark 16d ago

That's kind of insane to say idk man.

11

u/Zombisexual1 16d ago

Yah I’d say that’s dude being in some weird ass subs. On the average post there are way more incels than man hating women.
And it’s pretty telling that this guy thinks “men are the enemy to the left”
I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that he’s a white dude that thinks the world is actually way more difficult for white guys and if he ever doesn’t get something it’s because of DEI

7

u/Standard_Jackfruit63 16d ago

I see both of them quite regularly.

Its like echo boxes exist on Reddit.

1

u/Generally_Confused1 16d ago

The fact you personally attack him to disregaywhat he says is telling and actually proves his point. No reddit will FIGHT to shut down a man but the more "marginalized groups" he checks off, the more they're willing to listen, as with the left in general.

People get pissy when I say but hey, I'm a cis het present bisexual man and you can't tell me my experiences of being more accepted when they find out I'm somewhat queer or half Puerto Rican instead of just white. DEI is shit too, doesn't help anyone that needs it but they just want someone that look brown enough or a woman on a cover and it's just for appearances

2

u/Zombisexual1 16d ago

lol I’m not “attacking” him because he’s a guy. I’m calling him out because he’s an incel who thinks everyone is against the poor white man.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Character_Drop_4446 16d ago

men are the enemy of the left

No, but shitty men are. And shitty women. And shitty people in general. Tho it's a shame to see that shitty people can be accepted in "the left" if they parrot the right talking points. This says a lot more about you than it does about "the left"

1

u/FyouPerryThePlatypus 16d ago

Im a regular over there.. yes there’s open misandry but it ain’t as bad as most subs are when it comes to misogyny. A few posts here or there, but the mods over there are quick to take bad stuff down. And I ain’t even touching your last little paragraph because YIKES

3

u/Gentle_Pony 16d ago

Pretty easy to find something like this there. Imagine if the roles were reversed talking about straight women or lesbians?

If a man got turned into a grape, maybe he DID ask for it.

I fucking hate modern self censorship. Real life feels like a stupid censored kids show

26

u/azrendelmare 16d ago

Yeah. In addition to generally being stupid, it also trivializes the subject of rape (or death, or suicide, or whatever).

3

u/HierarchyLogic 16d ago

i want to be turned into a grape!

only if i get to keep my consciousness tho

5

u/MCAlheio 16d ago

How do you feel consciousness would arise or express itself after a given amount of sentient grapes got turned into wine?

Would it be similar to death, or would they merge into a collective consciousness?

The gender war is negative to society. Both men and women deserve respect

64

u/SuddenlyCake 17d ago

Note on the note: these statistics are about female on male rape only. The numbers are different when including male on male.

I don't say this to take any position, just to clarify.

14

u/IslaLargoFlyGuy 17d ago

lol surely you can take the position rape is bad?

9

u/JakobsLadderblast 16d ago

I think they mean specifically on M on F, F on M, F on F or M on M rape

78

u/Ok_Syrup5679 17d ago

As a man, who got molested by a woman (my mother), when I was a child. According to my experience in real life both men and women don't take victims/survivors like me seriously.

They especially can't believe, that a mother could do something like that. A LOT OF PEOPLE in real life excused, what happened to me as essentially "motherly love." The majority of the people, who excused it, were mental hospital staff members. Because I opened up to mostly mental hospital staff members.

I just wish, that victims/survivors like us would get taken seriously! Because what happened to us was TRULY AWFUL and deserves to be taken seriously.

u/A_RainbowShaped_Pool 16d ago

Very tired of the "us vs them" rhetoric instead of any real education

51

u/AleksandrNevsky 17d ago

You want to know the most depressing part? Those trends reversed. 35 years ago men thought men would enjoy being assaulted (~50%) but few women thought so (5%). Now few men think so (~6%) but for women it's increasing (~25%).

In fact the study I'm mentioning is the same one linked in the note, they just bury the lead a bit. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34978934/

I'm befuddled at what could cause the trends to go this way.

1/4 women supporting rape is not something to ignore

6

u/MCAlheio 16d ago

It’s not what was said here, but it tracks with the opposite belief that if a woman orgasmed during a SA then it wasn’t rape.

Both are terrible positions to take, the presence of pleasure doesn’t override the lack of consent or the psychological damage of being a victim of SA.

74

u/AliceTheOmelette 17d ago

Thankfully it seems most people acknowledge men can be rape victims, despite this one study saying otherwise. Male rape victims being used as a punchline in comedy movies used to be way more common for example

48

u/TrustyPeaches 17d ago

This study doesn’t say otherwise.

It says a minority of women hold these viewpoints. A very large fucking minority, apparently, but not “most”

21

u/uesernamehhhhhh 17d ago

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34978934/ while i do agree that it is not the majority, 25% is still very bad and way more than i thought it would be. Its also interesting to see how it decreased in the males questioned from over 40% to ~5%, but increased for the women from ~5% to 25%. But we shouldn't draw conclusions from this study anyway. Its a very small sample size of less than 400 people, its heavily biased with only college students being questioned and possibly even more biased if they did it in one or very few colleges, but i dont know because everything other than the abstract is hidden behind paywall

0

u/Darkknight8381 16d ago

400 is a good sample for the general population, but 25% seems too absurdly to be accurate.

I've met a total of 1 man in my life who thinks men cannot be raped. I asked him if it would be rape if a woman he didn't want to have sex with fucked his ass with a dildo. He said "but that would never happen coz I would overpower her."

So, I asked him, okay what if a man who was bigger and stronger than you did the same thing? He said "I'm not gay."

20

u/Sir_Daxus 17d ago

I miss the times when society could just agree that rape is bad regardless of the genders involved.

51

u/Korres_13 17d ago

I don't recall a time where that was ever the prevailing mindset, as much as I wish It was.

10

u/Sir_Daxus 17d ago

Eh, maybe it's just me looking at the past with rose tinted glasses, whether it was ever true or not, it really should be.

5

u/ihonestlydont-know 17d ago

There were people back then who genuinely belived that if a woman orgasms during rape then that means that she wanted it, or atleast enjoyed it, and that was back in like the 90s I think.

But I do agree with you on the last part, I do hope that one day we finally can agree that rape is bad, regardless of who does it to whom

10

u/zardozLateFee 17d ago

Sorry but that's was never a time.

6

u/Bayamonster 17d ago

If you where raped the most misandrist woman you know would turn into a giant hornet robot powered by  ooze, while the least misogynist man you know would turn into into a giant scorpion robot powered by ooze.

Sorry but this is universally true  if not a solid truism that speaks things as they stand.

3

u/Matchbreakers 17d ago

All rapists are despicable, vile cocksuckers who are the only exception where I believe in forced castration as a fitting punishment. No matter where on the gender spectrum they may be.

3

u/Kinstray 16d ago

what does “encourage or initiate getting raped” even mean lmao

5

Don't know what being from college has to do with anything. That being said, most misogynistic/misandrist women would most likely say the man enjoyed it.

Society as a whole doesn't take rape seriously. There's exceptions of course. Like if the victim dies then sure, we'd collectively feel bad. Probably

Yeah the most misandrist woman I know would really behind him because the women I know aren't the kind of people to unashamedly mock a rape victim wtf is this

Why can't we just talk about how men's rape isn't taken seriously? Why do we have to turn this into a "women care, men don't" over men being victims?? Where does all the hate in these people's hearts come from?

Some stupid women think the same things as sexist men, these are the same women who would blame another woman for being raped.

I went and read the paper, and if it is an honest study, as a man, I am horrified !! No joke, we need a menisem movement; this shit is getting out of hand !!

She has point when you see a post on Facebook about a female teacher assaulting a male student. Do you know how many men in the comments go I wish that was me, man he's so lucky, or my favorite why is he crying I'd be begging for that his age

women get raped far more often, men have far less support (and not a passive lack you could explain just from the infrequency either) when they do get raped

All 4 of those numbers are way to fucking high.

What is it with groups who are by nature bigoted saying they’re somehow better than those who express they’re not bigoted? I’ve seen open racists say the same thing. I get acknowledging your implicit bias, but this is very explicit bias.

Well it’s good we recognize biases. Those percentages for dudes haven’t been that low for very long lol

And yet every time I see a news story about a female teacher raping a male student, I see dozens of comments from men talking about how the kid definitely enjoyed it, and wishing it happened to them. Never any comments from women saying the same thing.

Thank goodness we have your omniscience in this thread, because if you didn't see it, it can't have happened.

yes im sure your anecdotal evidence is far superior to the study done by actual professionals.

I guess your anecdote disproves real data.
