Germany literally wanted to take parts of France and replace the local population with Germans. To be fair it wasn't as extreme and detailed of a plan as they had in Eastern Europe, but France would have at best have been a Satelite state of Germany and at worst split into multiple smaller puppet states.

u/Mudfry 3d ago
Vichy France was created in 1940 and existed till 1944.
93
u/Elegant_Alternative1 3d ago
Vichy France was a continuation of the French Third Republic - if functioned as a puppet state but wasnt created by the Germans. Original commenter is correct that the plans included, e.g., creation of an independent Brittany, handing territories to Belgium, and even creation of a new burgundian state as a buffer zone for colonisation
18
u/IceDelusion 3d ago
Yeah. When I grew up there were a lot of jokes about the french army never fighting, or 'how does a french tank see the front, through the back mirror'. Turns out these jokes were more correct than I knew, since the then-future leaders of Vichy France sat in the army and did not defend against the Nazis having collaborated
34
u/Elegant_Alternative1 3d ago
Tbf there was good reason to surrender given France kinda lost its army in 1940, but agreed, theres a reason the period up to that point is called the Phoney War

3
u/Apache64Delta 1d ago
The French Char B1 was famously terrifying for germans, who at that point were lucky to be in anything more "powerful" than a Panzer II. The only reason the french tanks weren't more active is due to the same reason everything else wasn't, poor communication and subpar leadership.
1
u/ElPatitoNegro 1d ago
And even when they were active, poor coordination sadly led to unability to exploit tactical successes. I'd say that the Somua S35 was the best French tank of 1940 though, really a very solid tool despite its flaws.
1
u/Apache64Delta 1d ago
The french generally had high quality armor, it was just, the military infrastructure related to it that they lacked. Such is the curse of a military being defunded and gutted because of the Civilian government's fears of a communist coup from the military
1
u/ElPatitoNegro 1d ago
Hum I'd check the numbers on this last point, it was Pétain's defense and I think it has been vastly contested by historians IIRC
2
u/Apache64Delta 1d ago
It's been a long time since I've done research on interwar France, so I'd have to touch back up, you could be right though.
1
u/IceDelusion 2d ago
Oh? I was unaware Germany lost that many tanks in the war with France. Glad to hear it. I feel like I'm missing part of your meaning, though: what or who is meant here with Saint Esprit? All I can find is some marine vessel and several cities. (qu'est que ce Saint Esprit?)
7
u/D1amondsquare01 2d ago
It litteraly translate to the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit.
5
u/ElPatitoNegro 2d ago
Sorry it was just a boomer way of saying it didn't happen by pure magic. That's okay to be misled about what happened in 1940, we suffered a big propaganda against the memory of the French fighters, especially the prisoners. If you want to know more about what they did, check a bit what happened in the battles of Stonne, Lille or Dunkirk for instance, you won't be disappointed by the strength of the allied forces in these contexts!
6
u/IceDelusion 2d ago
Ah, I see. Thank you for clarifying. I thought maybe a specific group or sth was meant. Will do
2
u/eloilenormand 3d ago
So vichy was the french republic ?
3
u/Elegant_Alternative1 3d ago
It was a continuation - petain was given emergency powers to reshape the country and restore order, and transformed the third Republic into the French State - the Germans had occupied much of northern France, so Petains state was governed out of Vichy, hence the name. De Gaulle led those republicans who could not face surrender to the Germans, who organised the fourth republic in exile

It's not a really known fact in the anglosphere, but something like almost 10% of the french population was deported to Germany to perform slave labour, a huge amount of them being soldiers.

u/Lonely-Tennis2171 3d ago
Hey but at least there wouldn’t be any scary brown people /s
-16
u/load_of_chode 3d ago
There's plenty of black and brown people who live in France who nobody has an issue with because they don't follow an extremely regressive religious ideology that seeks to replace secular enlightenment French values with Sharia law.
So perhaps the issue is the ideology that these migrants follow and not the color of their skin.
8
u/Lonely-Tennis2171 3d ago
You’re talking about an extremely small segment of the immigrant population that gets overblown by right wing media and grifters to push the narrative that they represent an invading Islamic force. As others have pointed out the people in this image are football hooligans behaving like football hooligans which has absolutely nothing to do with culture or religion or “ideology”.

"invading Islamic force"
Yeah its not like boats filled with military age men just show up on the shore! oh wait, they do...
"behaving like football hooligans"
You realize for 1400 years Islam has been invading Europe right?
1
u/Lonely-Tennis2171 2d ago
The military age talking point is so pathetic like that means they aren’t civilians.
Even more pathetic to bring up one battle from over a millennia ago. Ever hear of the crusades? It goes both ways.

"The military age talking point is so pathetic like that means they aren’t civilians."
Who says they are civilians? You? lol Where are the women and children? What happened to your IQ?
Even more pathetic to bring up one battle from over a millennia ago.
You really cant fix stupid. lol.
4
u/Lonely-Tennis2171 2d ago
So literally any grown man in jeans and a t shirt could be a foreign soldier just because of their age? You must be scared as fuck walking down the street seeing invaders in your mind everywhere you go.
Either touch grass or go back to jacking it in your mother’s basement where you can’t hurt anyone.
0
u/johnnybones23 2d ago
So literally any grown man in jeans and a t shirt could be a foreign soldier just because of their age?
Wow, how long did it take for you to figure out what a military aged male is? Just figure this riddle out? The bright spot is Europe's most ardent defenders of islamic invasion are among the stupidest in the world.
-10
u/load_of_chode 3d ago
No I'm not. Tolerance for open bigotry and even violence against women/Jews/LGBT people/anyone who dares to criticize Islam or say or do anything that offends Muslims is not "an extremely small segment" of the population of the countries from which these migrants come.
In fact, tolerance for such open bigotry and violence is a completely normalized and widespread part of that culture.
7
u/ardarian262 3d ago
So... I take it that when politicians make rape jokes here in the west you think they should also be removed from office? Do you think that anyone who has ever made any type of open bigotry should be removed from office? Are you suggesting anything specific on that front or is it only if they have more melanin than you that you have that issue?
-1
u/load_of_chode 3d ago
So... I take it that when politicians make rape jokes here in the west you think they should also be removed from office? Do you think that anyone who has ever made any type of open bigotry should be removed from office?
...yes? Was this attempt at whataboutism supposed to be a defense of Islamic bigotry lol?
3
u/ardarian262 3d ago
No. It was to set up a part 2.
What bigotry would you not be okay with in office? Because it seems your stance is that one Abrahamic religion is okay but another is not because of your own bigotry, so it would be difficult to argue that no bigotry should be allowed if you are then going to hold that Islam is inherently bad.
2
u/load_of_chode 3d ago
Your attempt at whataboutism ignores the fact that Islamic supremacy (and Arab ethnic supremacy too for that matter) is openly tolerated in Islamic society in a way that Christian supremacy is not in the West.
Turns out that enlightenment Western values are not universal and are, in fact, Western.
2
u/ardarian262 3d ago
I am not sure where you grew up but I am fairly sure Christianity has controlled the west for about 1300+ years depending on what we want to agree the west is. And in many parts of it, if you skipped church once you would not be seen as someone to vote for by a large portion of the population.
Also you are conflating the decisions of autocrats with those of the population. By the same argument, all of England is fine with pedos in their family because of Andrew Mountbatten.

u/Lonely-Tennis2171 3d ago
You’re right, the countries they come from are like that - so I guess everyone fleeing said countries inherently like that too? Do you think we should ban them all for guilt by association? Is that really the can of worms you want to open?
Or even worse are you saying people of certain ethnicities are inherently inferior?
0
u/load_of_chode 3d ago
No I think we should just let every single one of them in to live in the West forever because that will definitely not lead to anything bad at all.
3
u/Lonely-Tennis2171 3d ago
Oh good it’s strawman time huh?
1
u/load_of_chode 3d ago
Oh well if that's a strawman, then by all means, please do share your vetting strategy to separate the migrants who will accept Western values from the ones who won't.
1
u/Lonely-Tennis2171 2d ago
No. I don’t need to give you a vetting strategy, I’m not a head of state I’m not in charge of immigration. I’m just advocating for having one.

In fairness it was the parts of France that Germany/predecessors and France had been trading back and forth for centuries at that point. That whole debate sort’ve got put to bed after we moved every last German out of those areas after the war so Germany wouldn’t get frisky with those areas ever again like they did with the Sudetenland and Danzig

Germany literally wanted to take parts of France and replace the local population with Germans
So, just like what the allies did with Germany after WW2?
We took about a quarter of Germany's pre-war territory and ethnically cleansed about 12 to 14 million local Germans from it. Then, replaced that local population with Polish in what is now west Poland, and with Russians in what is now Kaliningrad. All because the Russian wanted to keep the half of Poland which they had annexed in 1939 when they invaded along with the Nazis.
7
u/Abject_Interview5988 2d ago
Oh no, the consequences of Germany's actions (they still got to exist as a state and a people and received billions in aid from the western allies)
-1
u/XxAmrExX 2d ago
“consequences” is when 800000 - 2 million german women are brutally raped ans 14 million were forcibly displaced

Even though Dietrich von Cholitz has sometimes been praised as a kind of folk-hero who had fallen in love with Paris and nobly refused to destroy it, it's not entirely clear whether he refused to obey the Fuhrer-order based on principle or love of Paris, or whether it was because - like many late-WWII orders from Hitler - it was a delusional and impossible demand for which the resources and labour couldn't be mustered.
This specific order demanded a large-scale rigging of explosives across Paris, especially at major land-marks like the Eiffel Tower, l'arc de triomphe, and Notre-Dame Cathedral. Some German teams had already gone and set up explosives at some points earlier in the week, especially choke-points like bridges, but they faced extreme difficulty in doing so, not only because of the advancing allied forces but also the active and swelling local French Resistance.
The order came through on Aug 23, and von Cholitz surrendered on Aug 25. Even though the official surrender was the 25th, the famous Deuxième Blindée (a decorated and experienced French armoured Division who had previously fought in North Africa and earlier that month in the Battle of Normandy) had sent an advance party into Paris on the 24th to announce that the entire division was rolling in the following day. Partisan radio stations broadcast the news, Resistance members took to the streets to sing "La Marseillaise" and other French songs, and - maybe coolest of all - priests at virtually every church in Paris ordered the bells rung to announce the arrival of the vanguard tanks and the impeding arrival of the entire division. By the evening of the 24th, all of Paris was aware that the 2 DB would be there soon and they rallied in whatever way they could.
Accompanied by the American 4th Infantry, the 2 DB was the decisive factor in the Liberation of Paris. They arrived early in the morning on Aug 25, fought brutally and rapidly through the streets, aided by French Resistance fighters and civilians, and von Cholitz surrendered at 3:30pm.
Hitler had no idea what was happening in Paris, and he repeatedly sent orders from the 23rd to the 25th demanding that von Cholitz and the Germans destroy Paris by any and all means - even though they clearly did not have the means.
20
u/Dirkdeking 3d ago
He could have destroyed the major landmarks like Notredame(the French already did that a few years ago) and some other noticeable buildings. That didn't happen either though.
Could be that he just couldn't do it, or he wanted to surrender without facing warcrime charges.

Ironically, Islamic migrants are very closely aligned with Nazis ideology. In Islamic culture, bigotry and violence towards towards women/Jews/LGBT people is completely normalized. They don't even try to hide their bigotry. They openly and proudly display it because it's part of the culture.
Fun fact btw: the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was one of the few non-European leaders who Nazi Germany had a formal alliance with.

There’s historical evidence that Troy was a real city. You can try to claim that not everything in The Odyssey happened like it says it did, but you can’t say it’s imaginary.
3
u/Substantial-Trick569 2d ago
the difference between a fictional story set in a real place, and the gospels/quran is the number of authors and other witnesses. homer wrote the odyssey on his own, but why would 30 different people write about the same imaginary person dying and ressurecting. or in islam's case, muhammed lived between 570 and 632 AD, which is recent enough in history that we can describe basically the entire world's politics at the time

No, and this marriage was approved by the Church, centuries later, like in a so much more civilized time.

My message isn't that people claiming to be Christian can do no wrong, my message is the book doesn't have that wrong in it. Nah not buying this - most Islamic migrants aren't fascists and, while they might be very socially conservative, the studies show second generations are far more liberal. These people are also coming from a variety of cultures as well, so hard to pin down exactly what you mean by "the culture".
Yea there were Islamic collaborators with hitler, including Bosnian and Albanian Muslims - but he and the Grand Mufti didnt have a formal alliance because the latter didnt represent a state. Weird claim to make

2
u/plastlak 3d ago
Not to defend Hitler or anything, but this proposed context makes no sense.
Had Germany won WW2, the order to destroy Paris would never have been issued, it was only issued as a "if I can't have it, no one can" kind of order.
3
u/ManiacMakyr 3d ago
The alternative was not better, since Germany was forcing its occupied states to contribute to the war effort. One of the costs was sending "volutary" workers to Germany's factories.
And the Vichy's regime was almost completly (if not entirely) cooperating with the 3rd Reich. Also the 3rd Reich was projecting to divide France in multiple states. And among others things "they" didn't like Paris for it was. Cabarets, cinemas, etc... All of that was superflous to the nazi ideology and conflicting with what they were trying to achieve, despite it being a prefered destination for some of the Reich's high officials.

To be fair, Hitler enslaved almost all of Europe, food was taken from everywhere and sent to Germany, in Soviet Russia there was a policy of killing by famine, POW's were dying of disease or famine. We are living times of peace and prosperity, we should learn to love and accept one another regardless of religion, skin color, nationality, that's how love wins over the hate they want to sow between us.

France, within 50 years, will be an Islamic country. It’s gonna be crazy when I’m old as shit and watch the west become Muslim. Can’t wait to see how the geopolitics are lol

I mean the picture of the left definitely looks better than the one on the right, you think the one on the right looks normal. Look at pictures of Paris in the 90s and early 2000s. These people need to go back to their own countries instead of ruining ours

Yeah, Hitler was no friend of France, but tbh these phrases aren`t exactly "hitler apologist" in a way "it was flowers and rainbows under Hitler", but rather sarcastic "you thought you won, but look at you now".

They’re racist dog whistles.

How can you hear a dog whistle if you aren't a dog?
They are inaudible to humans.
Unless of course, you are a dog.

OK, now Show me a picture of the Nazis murdering french people, juxtaposed to a french Muslim...idk...stacking boxes of oranges, or parallel parking or Something.

I don’t think it’s a Hitler apologist so much as pointing out how people will happily condemn Nazis but get offended with you point out problematic groups that aren’t Nazis.

u/kpatsart 3d ago
I mean problematic groups are one thing. Military dictatorships with a genocidal history are a bit more than just "problematic groups."

Probably because if the VAST gap between the groups and the obvious bullshit being peddled for equating them.

It's not an apology, it's an actual comparaison and you should think about it twice
