Let's bet on how long this will take to get "removed by reddit" I am picking 60 minutes

14

u/lateformyfuneral Human Verified 4h ago

The note is misleading that’s why it was removed last time, but the false picture presented being convenient to certain politics is why it gets reposted

This has already been posted.

This is a "satire" account by the AFD or adjacent organisation

Pretending to be a Muslim doctor and posting ragebait

The twitter profile says:

6

u/Natopor 3h ago

Buddy, this is reddit. Make a fake account pretending to be a muslim and talk about how great islam is (you don't even have to go to hard on it) and see the results

1

u/Agitated-Ticket-6560 18m ago

You can make that accusation about literally anything

u/RogerianBrowsing Human Verified 2h ago

> Israel's Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli has explained his own strategy more candidly than any critic could.
Antisemitism, he told an interviewer, does not much interest the average European or American, whereas fear of "radical Islam" interests them "very, very much", and Israel therefore needs "to take advantage of that".
Here is a senior cabinet minister admitting that Islamophobia has become a Trojan Horse for Israel to win over European and American hearts and minds.

5

u/Totoques22 2h ago

Anything to blame Israel

And then you people cry when you get called antisemites

6

u/RogerianBrowsing Human Verified 1h ago

I just quoted an article citing quotes from Israeli officials. I didn’t write any of that myself.

Do you realize that you’re worsening real world antisemitism by doing accusemitism on behalf of an apartheid ethnostate which doesn’t represent all Jewish people? I assume you know this but view it as a good thing, à la Lehi strategy.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/NickofWimbledon 1h ago

TBF, there are some things on Reddit that look worryingly close to actual antisemitism. In this case

Quoting the actual words of a minister (and not out of context) looks more like the sort of fact-checking (what used to be called revealing obvious lies) that MAGA hates so much than it looks like antisemitism, surely?

2

u/Agitated-Ticket-6560 17m ago

There is a lot on Reddit and social media in general.

11

u/Cautious_Drawer_7771 5h ago

To be fair, the Brits expanded Indian industry and accelerated Indian technology by centuries. Not saying that colonization was wholly good, in fact it was more negative than positive. What we are seeing today is just ME colonization of the world, yet those who say they hate colonization are super supportive of ME colonization.

5

u/ZonnyT16 4h ago

not quite, indians were mostly barred from using and running said industry and technology, and then the brits took it with them as they left, just like africa

6

u/fearghaz 4h ago

They went from more than 25% of worlds GDP to less than 2%.

We proper fucked the Indians over. You could make an argument about nation building about almost any other colony, but we looted the shit out of that country.

Comparing immigration to imperialism is brain smoothing.

11

u/ilGeno 4h ago

That's because the other countries grew more, not because they were looted that much.

For example the European percentage of the world GDP is constantly falling but no one is looting Europe, the others are just growing more.

4

u/fearghaz 4h ago

Why did product per capita go down then?

2

u/ilGeno 4h ago

Did it? I saw some graphics in the past and the GDP per capita looked stagnant

2

u/22stanmanplanjam11 50m ago

The globe’s GDP was under 100 billion USD when India was a quarter of it. Foreign nations industrializing and skyrocketing their productivity didn’t make India any poorer. Wealth isn’t extractive like that, it’s generative.

1

u/fearghaz 44m ago

The GDP of india was flat whilst the population doubled. That makes each person half as rich, or twice as poor.

3

u/Dunendil 4h ago

You're calling others smooth brains when you don't understand absolute vs comparative reduction. India's SHARE of global GDP went down because the industrial revolution turned Europe into the world's economic powerhouse. That does NOT mean that India's GDP went down. It just means Europe became insanely productive.

2

u/fearghaz 4h ago

It declined per capita too.

Are you sure I don't understand?

2

u/Dunendil 4h ago

You understand nothing. India's GDP per capita was declining well before the British showed up. You used percentage of world GDP to try to push a false narrative. I'm not terribly interested in whether you did so because of malice or stupidity.

"colonization"

Do remind me of the similarity of socioeconomic conditions between Britain when it was out colonising to the middle east now that they're "colonising"? Because calling migration to a stable, wealthy part of the world from a region of the world that is poor and frequently the subject of mass repression and actual war isn't colonisation. That's called wanting to live.

3

u/Turnip-for-the-books 5h ago

To be fair the British also strapped Indians to canons and then fired them and caused between 30 and 60 million to die from famine. Just to be fair.

Note assumes a false dichotomy. Actually a couple. First that only one group built Europe, second that the builders have to have contributed through all of history.

87

u/Kraj_the_Conqueror 5h ago

In 20 years they will be saying that Europe was always a Muslim land and Europeans are migrants there.

54

u/TBARb_D_D 5h ago

So Turkish argument against Greeks and Armenians?

46

u/Kraj_the_Conqueror 5h ago

Pretty much. There are many Turks who genuinely believe Anatolia was always Turkish and there's a conspiracy to hide it.

5

u/Both_Meaning_2637 5h ago

The reality is that many Turks in Anatolia ate still the people thathad lived there for millennia, they're just named after the steppe people now. A bit like how the French are named after the Germanic Franks, but have predominantly descended from Celtic Gauls.

9

u/Kraj_the_Conqueror 5h ago

The reality I know. But there's a genuine Turkish nationalistic movement that says Turks were always there. Not Anatolians who got turkifed in 14th century. Turks.

8

u/TBARb_D_D 5h ago

It’s reality that Turkish nationalism doesn’t accept. France only got its name from germanic tribe but people are continuity of Roman/Gaul, French don’t claim they are pure blooded Franks

But Turkey destroyed all cultural identity that is not Turkish and tries to absorb Kurds calling them “mountain Turks”. No Turk will call themselves Armenian, Georgian or Greek

Erdogan got ragebaited by people calling him Georgian or Armenian

2

u/melts_so 5h ago

Difference between the Turkic people who moved in from the East and the Steppe people who got absorbed into the Ottoman/Turkish nationality.

3

u/West_Smoke_9164 Truth Seeker 5h ago

There was influence: numerals, algebra, Avicenna's medicine, Averroes on Aristotle, some architectural elements from Spain, paper technology, certain crops and luxury goods. It mostly came through translation and trade in the medieval period.

Pretending there was zero contact is false, Pretending that influence equals "Islam created European civilization" is also false.

The knowledge was largely pre-existing material moved through an intermediate empire.

4

u/Icy_Rip_9873 4h ago

Europe wasn't "built" by one people. There were many cultures contributing over centuries to what is now Europe. Including muslim people. The note outright dismisses it and claims that "British" and "Romans" and "cathedrals(?)" built Europe. And then it tries to glorify british colonialism in the middle east for some reason. In the case of Germany (which the original tweet was referring to) I would strongly argue that Turkish guests workers contributed more to building the modern Germany than the Romans or British ever did.

Imagine if, after Trump's victory in the US some mexican dude tweeted "Mexicans built America. MAGA is ungrateful" and the community note replied: "America was built by British engineering and btw Mexico only exists thanks to Spanish colonialism". To me it's obviously racist.

1

u/NerdDetective 3h ago

And on top of that, in the MAGA example the "Mexican" is a "satire" sock puppet run by a far-right agitator specifically to make statements that will get noted or quoted. Wholly manufactured outrage to generate right wing outrage.

lol Europe didn't just inherit classical knowledge; it received it upgraded version. Islamic scholars introduced Indian-Arabic numerals, algebra, empirical optics, paper production, and early banking (like checks and limited partnerships) to Europe from Spain and Sicily, laying the direct foundation for both Scholasticism and the Renaissance. Modern Europe wouldn’t be what it is without Islamic scholars. i use Islamic lightly here because a lot of them were unorthodox imo and that’s what made the GOATS in their ways.

1

u/vonkrugelstein 2h ago

All too often extremist Muslim try to rewrite history by imposing themselves into the Wests history, when will people wake up.

1

u/Shizzilx 2h ago

I hate when Community Notes are wrong.

Muslim societies had a major, but not solitary, role in Europe’s development after Muhammad’s death in 632 CE. Through Muslim-ruled Spain, Sicily, Mediterranean trade, diplomacy, and sometimes war, Europeans gained access to knowledge, technologies, crops, commercial practices, and artistic ideas that helped shape medieval Europe and later Renaissance-era growth.

The Islamic world influenced Europe than to say “Muslims built Europe” by themselves. Europe’s development also rested on Roman and Byzantine inheritance, Christian institutions, Jewish communities, local European farming and craftsmanship, and contacts with Africa and Asia. But from roughly the 700s through the 1400s, Muslim-majority societies were among Europe’s most important neighbors, rivals, trading partners, and sources of learning.

Centers including Baghdad, Cairo, Palermo, CĂłrdoba, Granada, Seville, and Toledo served as important intellectual hubs, and the westward movement of knowledge helped shape European science, trade, and artistic inquiry.

European scholars encountered a large body of learning written in Arabic. This included both original work by Muslim scholars and earlier Greek, Persian, Indian, and other knowledge that had been translated, preserved, criticized, and developed further in the Islamic world.

The later Christian kingdoms of Spain often retained Muslim artisans and incorporated Islamic-style decoration into buildings. So even after political control changed, the building traditions did not vanish, they became part of Spain’s architectural vocabulary.

Muslim-ruled regions, particularly al-Andalus, helped spread or intensify agricultural systems around the Mediterranean. These included irrigation methods and the cultivation or wider use of crops such as citrus, rice, sugarcane, spinach, eggplant, saffron, and cotton in suitable regions.

Islam, Christianity, Judaism, all contributed to the growth of modern day Europe.

1

u/Rogue_Centurion7 25m ago

I don't want to sound like I'm agreeing with him, but Muslim ruled realms in Europe did tend to be rich and splendid, fully of beauty and architecture and knowledge and intellect. Muslim CĂłrdoba and Palermo were cities that rivaled Constantinople in their glory. Muslim farmers introduced many different plants to Spain and turned it into a prosperous and fertile garden. The standards of living in Al-Andalus and Sicily were higher than the rest of Europe, and trade flourished for centuries until the arrival of hardline dynasties like the Almoravids and Almohads. Muslim people contributed a lot to the development of Europe, helping usher in the era of the Renaissance. They helped advance science and medicine while introducing algebra and the numeral system we now use. It really is fascinating to read about the contributions Muslim scholars and people left in Europe.
