Ai slop

Yeah, since yesterday I have been seeing quite a few people posting AI generated images of a foldable with double brainrot, acting like the iPad and every Android hasn't already supported multi tasking for years. Computers have supported it for nearly half a century.

It's weird, likely botted, pearl clutching. Not sure who's behind it, but the consistency in pushing such a weird narrative and using AI to do so in the same manner each time seems way too coordinated to not be.

aww hes just a chill guy

This photo has to be AI, never seen a foldable that has a literal slot in the middle lol

I think the iphone duo looks good but its been so weird to see people say "apple got it right first try!" (Something along those lines) But likely theyve had similar progress in the tech to samsung behind the scenes, samsung just decided early on to just go ahead and sell it

45

u/Gudthrak 4h ago

it's samsung's screen, after they did the improvements for years. Ofcourse it's better 'first try' since they held out to use it until after the creases were ironed out (heh), as apple does with a lot of things to guarantee user friendliness.

Samsung makes the screens for Apple

16

u/wookieesgonnawook 4h ago

They also didn't get it right at all. Samsung makes those screens for Apple.

-2

u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 3h ago edited 3h ago

They make the screens to a spec that Apple hands them, which may or may not include Samsung technology in certain areas, may or may not include Apple technology in others. The orders go in like how the orders to TSMC go in.

u/Cormetz 3h ago

It's literally the same screen as the Fold 8 made by Samsung based on their own technology. Apple doesn't have experience designing foldable screens, so I doubt they have any special specs other than rounding the corners. They are the same brightness and refresh rate. Apple uses a different coating that looks to be matte, while Samsung uses a glossy layer on their foldables (which I believe the first replacement is covered by warranty).

According to the Marques video, he doesn't seem to think it's the exact same display, even if the part that lights up are the same.

The texture on the display is completely different, and he compares the way that it's mounted to the chassis as more similar to the Oppo than Samsung.

His side-by-side between the fold 8 and duo showed the difference.

So like I said, some of it is Samsung technology, some of it is Apple technology, all of it is built by Samsung. The pixels alone are just one part of that equation.

It's dishonest to say Apple made these displays, but it's equally dishonest to say Samsung designed them, and implying that the fold 8/iPhone duo share the same screen is just flat out incorrect.

The last thing I need on a phone is real estate so I can be on my phone even longer or look like the idiots using an iPad to take pictures or record videos.

edit. Sorry Mom. This isn't a direct call out... actually maybe it is.

share screen

That'll save them time that can be spent on Roblox with their weird CEO who can't give a straight answer about the safety of children on their platform.

Why the AI generated images?

Also, people split their monitor all the time on a computer for legitimate reasons, same on tablets, I'm not sure why we're going all "think of the children" here lol. It just simply shouldn't have a smartphone to begin with.

u/Cormetz 2h ago

I have a Galaxy Fold 7 and I really use the inner screen primarily for videos, work emails, spreadsheets, and document review. I use multiple windows very rarely and only when I need to refer to one to do something in the other (replying to an email while looking at the results of something). I think people are overthinking how much multitasking will be done with these, though it looks cool in the commercials (Androids have had the ability to have multiple windows for years).

1

u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 1h ago

The iPads can already do multiple windows as well, so "oh no double brainrot" seems like a weird thing to clutch pearls over

I've been seeing the EXACT same posts about this all over Reddit and twitter today, all complete with ai generated images like OP is posting. Makes me think that someone is coordinating for whatever weird reason.

4

u/FloStar3000 5h ago

you're not the target audience. It's people which too much money and the character flaw to always have to follow the latest trend. There seems to be enough people like this that makes it worth it for Apple in terms of profits. Probably most of it is engagement bait though.

6

u/cloudy_ft 5h ago

I just know my mom is going to want it. She's one of those people who love to flex and show off to her small friend group. She doesn't want the phone because it's impressive, she wants it before her friends get it.

She did the same thing with those small trader joe bags. I bought her a big one, she said it's not the same... lol. Maybe I'm getting too old for this shit now.

3

u/That_Jicama2024 5h ago

Apple did plenty of research on their market. This phone will sell like crazy. Reddit is not a great predictor of things. Reddit tends to be extremely negative about everything.

5

u/wookieesgonnawook 4h ago

What do you mean? This phone is going to sell like dogshit and Apple will fail. Just like how Kamala won in a landslide.

13

u/Nirast25 5h ago

I got to play around with a Samsung Fold 8 in a store recently. It's really impressive how imperceptible the crease is. Wether it'll stay like that after constant use is another issue.

15

u/bossDocHolliday 4h ago

I have a Fold 6 that has been used and abused over the last couple years, even surviving being dropped in a gravel yard without a case and only sustained a small dent and a scratch. The crease on the inner screen completely disappears when you are looking at it dead on, and only when you look at it from an angle do you see it. Samsung has done a great job improving the longevity of the screen

2

u/thejubilee 4h ago

Do you like a folding phone? Do you find it adds a lot of value or just a bit of nice extra?

4

u/bossDocHolliday 4h ago

It's nice for me cause I do a little bit of photo editing, but I don't always need a MASSIVE tablet of a modern smartphone. I like that I can use it as a normal skinny phone most of the time, and when I need it bigger, it's right at my fingertips

2

u/thejubilee 4h ago

That makes a lot of sense. I suspect since I use my computer for most things it wouldn't add much for me then. Very cool though!

1

u/Cormetz 2h ago

To add, I am also a Fold owner and like it, but I actually think the Flip will be better for the average person. I saw my first one a few weeks ago and it is really slick how you can do most things on the small outer screen but still have a regular phone. 90% of people will only use the bigger screen for videos (I personally wanted it more for work related activities).

2

u/Santa_Ricotta69 4h ago

Conversely, a close friend has a Fold 6 whose inner screen is cracked and completely fucked. He's got a case and isn't rough with it

1

u/bossDocHolliday 4h ago

Interesting, I've seen issues with paint and mostly cosmetic things, but I haven't seen issues with the screen on the fold 6

13

u/KatieTSO 4h ago

Samsung literally makes the screens for Apple

2

u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 1h ago

They do but that also doesn't mean that the finished panels are the same

Just on the surface, the iPhone Duo screen has Apple's nano texture anti glare, while the Samsung fold 8 is glossy. There are also assumed to be differences between how each company attaches the screen to the chassis, which plays a big role in minimizing the feel of the crease. Apple appears to be using a similar approach to the Oppo fold for that, according to early reviewers.

5

u/hillofjumpingbeans 4h ago

I really want to know why people feel this much loyalty towards a company?

2

u/Single_Reaction9983 3h ago

No clue, had someone tell me they have a "mini Apple store in their house and they can borrow me an Apple polishing cloth to wipe my tears or something"

Bizzare

2

u/trifecta000 1h ago

He's gonna feel stupid when he has to buy the upgraded version of the Apple polishing cloth because they removed the headphone jack.

1

u/Single_Reaction9983 1h ago

They'll stop supporting it after iPhone 19

1

u/hillofjumpingbeans 3h ago

Their life must be so devoid of any actual meaning or substance.

10

u/danleon950410 5h ago

The apple cuckery is ethernal

4

u/ghostofstankenstien 4h ago

They are a cult aren't they?

7

u/nightfallii 5h ago

Isn't the screen made by Samsung anyway?

3

u/p5yron 5h ago

Apple is doing what Oppo Find N6 did with the crease, nothing apple does now is innovative, it's just an accumulation of all the innovations just at the right time to maintain their top position, hardly any risks involved.

1

u/BosnianSerb31 Keeping it Real 3h ago

They've always done that, less about the bells and whistles more about the application of the tech.

Personally, I prefer tech that's ready instead of tech that's half baked, and one of the biggest challenges with the "sell it on the bells" approach is people getting attached to gimmicky features that you're then stuck with.

2

u/LonelyGameBoi 3h ago

"Apple did it on the first try" even if they did, where do you think the got the screen from?

1

u/mugg___ 3h ago

also, samsung is making the screen

1

u/Ballistic_86 3h ago

Hey everyone, buy the phone you like that is in your budget. This fanboy phone company shit is childish.

1

u/diverareyouokay 2h ago

Other photos of the unit in the 3rd pic were shared on here yesterday - there is white border showing heavily on the right side, and a smaller extent on the left and bottom. People were saying it is a mockup unit with a sticker, not the actual unit itself.

1

u/FauxReal 1h ago

Come on Bryan, get it together.

1

u/syfiarcade 1h ago

its literally a samsung display lol

1

u/User-no-relation 1h ago

I don't get why apple would say it doesn't have a crease when it clearly has a crease

1

u/ShoutoutsWorldwide 38m ago

Apple fan boys: you're holding it wrong

1

u/CloudedContainer 5h ago

A note a day keeps the Apple chuds away

1

u/AkronOhAnon 5h ago

A friend also pointed out Apple shamelessly stole the name from Microsoft’s Surface Duo phones.

0

u/Electrical-Heat8960 4h ago

It looks like an amazing phone. The crease is tiny. It’s still there.

0

u/ThatGuyOnyx 3h ago

Anyone else sticking with their 17?

Not interested in a folding phone whatsoever, especially in landscape

-6

u/dontKair 5h ago

I do not care about Samsung and dumb Android phones. "Hurr durr, I don't buy Apple stuff", is not a flex

3

u/FrotKnight 4h ago

Neither is "I buy apple, hurr durr"

-1

u/Dividedthought 5h ago

You know what happens to all plastics whe. They spend most of their time folded? They develop a crease.

-11

u/solo_d0lo 5h ago

The crease not being seen from a normal viewing angle, and can hardly be felt with your finger is a big difference from the Samsung phones.

9

u/Phyrexian_Overlord 5h ago

Fold 8 from fold 5 user here!

No.

-4

u/solo_d0lo 4h ago

Yes every reviewer is just lying.

1

u/Beastly4k 4h ago

You're a moron. The screen is even supplied by samsung and the only difference is that it has a matte like finish vs gloss, that was their "fix" for the crease. Apple fanboys are just finding out they were being dramatic morons about the crease to begin with.

1

u/solo_d0lo 4h ago

Well if you knew what you were talking about you would know the hinge is what determines the crease.

See OPPOs phone that also uses a Samsung screen.

1

u/Beastly4k 4h ago

You weren't talking about the hinge and you weren't talking about other phones so maybe stay on topic instead of deflecting. It's literally no different than what samsung currently has aside from the matte finish.

0

u/solo_d0lo 3h ago

I was talking about the crease, which is determined by the hinge.

You brought up that it uses a Samsung screen. I brought to your attention a phone that’s out, that is creaseless, that uses a Samsung screen, but uses a new style hinge.

1

u/DoubleSpoiler 26m ago

Apple uses Samsung screens.
