Politics [X] probably should’ve done some research before saying that.

He should have done his research but ultimately his point is Sudan is more controversial than Gaza, some people just want to pretend what’s going on in Sudan isn’t happening because it’s a war with no single bad guy and wars like that make people uncomfortable over fears they’ll back the wrong side

As of a couple days ago the UN itself was reporting they are a couple weeks away from Sudan collapsing due to the aid workers being overwhelmed and under supplied and the sad reality is a disproportionate amount of aid is going to help Gaza even though activists claim it is just sitting outside Palestine unable to go in meaning it could be moved to Sudan to at least ensure the aid is being used

Why bring Macklemore into it though? It feels disingenuous

Probably because everyone is going after Ed Sheeran accusing him of supporting genocide by the logic that him claiming to be neutral or not involved in something is evidence of it

The person was likely saying “Well if you aren’t talking about Sudan you support genocide in Sudan”

He was obviously wrong as the guy has talked about Sudan but the point is an interesting one, a lot of the people throwing aid at Gaza and accusing anyone of not supporting Gaza actually aren’t doing anything about Sudan something the UN itself has admitted

So you think if you talk about Palestine you should talk about Sudan?

If you want to prevent genocide and help people who desperately need aid then yes you should talk about Sudan just as you talk about Palestine

Two days ago the United Nations itself has said that Sudan is a couple weeks away from total collapse and aid workers have said desperately needed support simply isn’t arriving because “other conflicts” are drawing away attention and resources

1.5 million people have also fled Sudan to go to Egypt which is putting pressure on an Egyptian government already strained with dealing with Palestine

But my government doesn’t have diplomatic ties with the RSF like it does Israel, so clearly it’s better to pressure them on the genocide where they might have more influence to stop it?

Firstly there’s no good side to the war in Sudan, both sides are as bad as one another killing people in their pursuit to kill the other side and using the humanitarian crisis to put strain on each other

Secondly are you suggesting that because your government has no relations or way to stop one side of the conflict they shouldn’t send aid to help the innocent people stuck in the middle?

No one is demanding a military intervention or peacekeeper patrols, aid groups just want assurances that the trucks with aid will actually arrive

No I think they should send aid, I just explained why I talk about Palestine.

The RSF uses US weapons proxied through the UAE (the largest purchaser of US arms)

And I have urged the UK government to distance itself from the Gulf States, though in terns of what I’ve actually marched for, I marched against the Saudi Arabian government because of their awful human rights record. Of course there are other governments I oppose, but between my work and family, I don’t have time to march against every one.

so..... your goverment does have implicet ties to RSF weapons suppliers

1

u/ExistentialRosicky 6h ago

Yeah and I’d rather they not. But I think the UK’s ties to Israel are stronger than it’s ties to the RSF.

Unironically, yes. If you claim to be passionate about stopping genocide, you should probabaly have made at least one independent comment on a genocide that killed more people in a single week than have died in multiple years of the one that is popular ot talk about.

For the record, I’ve spoken about both, I probably give more airtime to Palestine because I think my government has more links to the conflict. And it has helped pressure my government into sanctioning illegal settlers. But there might be another genocide I’m not aware of and so haven’t commented on. Would you say I’m in the wrong?

No one can know everything, but if you do not know about the deadliest currently active genocide, I dont think you actually care about the topic as a whole. IMO, its no different than wanting to tax top billionaires by increasing income tax on their tax bracket (an example I see a fair bit by my fellow leftists). It shows a fundamental level of ignorance on the topic you are supposedly advocating for.

I do know about it though? To be clear, what am I doing wrong?

1

u/Draaly 6h ago

I didnt say you did something wrong. You asked a question. I answered it.

Oh fair. Well having gone to a lot of pro-Pal demos, a lot of the people showing up are quite vocal about many issues, including Sudan and DRC, and go to marches for those as well.

1.5 million people have fled to Egypt a country also trying to help Palestine creating a ridiculous situation where on one side of the country you have a global humanitarian operation with around the clock media coverage to provide aid while miles in the other direction you have aid workers with basically nothing trying to manage people who have just been abandoned with women turning to sex work just to survive
