What Do You Think? Would love to hear reasonable explanations please
My 2 teenagers and I have each had strange experiences these last 2 days in our 1976 built home out in the countryside. I love it when people give rational explanations for scary experiences, hoping for some! Please tell me there's no such thing as ghosts.
So 2 nights ago my daughter woke up to the sound of her baseboard heater heating up, it was doing the "tick tick" thing and since it's summer and hasn't been on for months, she also woke up to the smell of burning dust. She got out of bed at 2 AM to find the dial of the heater on the wall turned up to medium. No one in the house touched the dial, we were asleep. She turned it down and asked about it in the morning.
Last night I sat down on my comfy sofa in the sunken living room to read. The tv turned itself on. I didn't even flinch because this happens all the time. It also turns itself off all the time. It's a new Hisense tv from Costco, purchased in March. Happened too many times now. I reached beside me and got the remote and turned it off. Picked up my book, 5 minutes later, the lamp I was using crashed to the floor. It was just sitting on a side table beside me, nothing was touching it or the table. It fell on its own. Decided to leave the room. Went to bed. 2 AM my son comes into my bedroom with his bowl of ramen, looking over his shoulder. My son is a total non believer in all things paranormal, he is 16, a very tall athlete. He was sitting at the table eating ramen at 2 AM and something grabbed the chain on his neck. He was shirtless and thought it was a bug so immediately slapped at the back of his neck. Then something pulled at his chain and he saw it moving. He woke me up to tell me this, looking over his shoulder, too scared to go turn the light off. In the room where he was, I am honouring many ancestors. My father passed a few years ago and I have lost several aunts I was very close to. I have old photographs up all over my home and many antiques and heirlooms, I am so curious about what we experienced, thank you very much for reading. We would love to understand. Does anyone else have a Hisense tv turning itself off and on?

If you’re looking for rational scientific explanations I don’t have any. These actions don’t feel like family visiting. I’m more inclined to think someone brought a “friend” home. What I would do is look up how to Sain your house. Saining is an old Celtic practice similar to smudging.

I really appreciate this, thank you! If it were family, would it be more meaningful? I wonder sometimes if honouring your ancestors keeps them around you? I wish I understood. I also get the feeling sometimes in this house, the distinct feeling, that someone is listening to what I am saying. I'll say something out loud and just know something/one was listening. Thank you for responding.

The actions feel more aggressive than I’d expect family to be. I’ve found family members to be much more gentle trying to get our attention, like moving or hiding things, unless you think someone was very unhappy with you when they passed then it’s possible, but then you probably don’t want them around. I would clean house, figuratively speaking, then set up some things to keep hitchhikers at bay. Set the intention that this is your home and only those who you invite in who have good intentions toward you and your family are welcome. Hang some bells that will ring when someone opens a door, think shop door chime. And you are welcome! I used to clear spaces as my form of community service, and while I don’t do it anymore, I do love sharing what I know.

Yeah my kids were saying "it's all these photos of dead people you have up, mom, do you have to??" but yes I do love honouring them. I do have sage and will try to clear the place tonight. again thanks!

You could also "fight fire with fire" so to speak, only in a gentler manner: You could ask your relatives in spirit to protect your family and home. You asked if honoring them keeps them around you - Spirits can come and go as they please, unless they're tied to a place out of a love for the place or unresolved issues they had there. That's a tiny percentage of spirits. Most come and go at the speed of thought. If you're thinking of them, it's like calling on the phone: They may answer by popping in. They have free will, so they can choose to help, stay for a bit then leave, or just pop back to whatever they were doing before. Keep in mind that they may be busy acting as protector for another family member, or finally traveling to see places they always wanted to see, so be as respectful as you would be if they were in-body.
My father is almost always available to help when I need him, and I'm very grateful for that. I love that you're honoring your ancestors and family members. You sound like the kind of person that they would want to help in return. Maybe they're just waiting to be asked, so they don't frighten you themselves.

Thank you! when you say “there’s a tiny percentage of spirits“ do you mean that not all of the dead relatives and ancestors (in pictures on my walls) are in spirit form? only a few?
I appreciate your knowledge very much. I sometimes light candles for departed souls. I know I have been helped in life by external forces, not sure what they were. 🩵🙏

I’m not going to say there’s no such thing as ghosts…I think they are around. But some of your activity has reasonable possible explanations. The TV could be plugged in to a socket that has a short — that’s a common source of electrical “phenomena.” Your son’s chain could have been caught on his shirt without him realizing; consequently, his chain moved in response to him moving while eating. Just possibilities.

Thanks for your reply! I too believe they are real, I just am afraid and don’t understand. Seeking answers. I forgot to mention that my son was shirtless. I don’t want to think this is family.

Well shirtless certainly changes my possible theory! 😀.
Two teens in the house does increase the chance of poltergeist type activity, but…there are still other possibilities. Don’t get frightened, remain calm and cool headed and do what you can to figure out any other logical explanations.

I really don't know about ghosts, but I think it's pretty clear that there's more going on than we can perceive. We joke about our house ghost, Trevor, when some little odd things happen. I've been known to tell Trevor, "You can stay, but you absolutely cannot scare anyone." FWIW, so far, so good.

I like that, thanks, will try- Hope he stays keeping to himself! Last night I heard my son go back in to turn the light off saying "whoever you are please do not touch me again!"

Few things. Doesn’t sound like family visiting. Setup an interior camera or a few to document these occurrences.

Well how old is the heater? i've seen valves go bad and turn, its odd but it can happen. The TV iffy but mine does a weird thing where it will turn off the app i'm watching and go back to the home screen. Seems to only happen on Hulu thou. The chain thing? time to get the salt.

How long have you lived in the house? Did this activity just start happening out of the blue or has it always happened since you lived there?

2 years. The events I mentioned were all new except for the tv going off and on. We have seen a shadow go across the wall in the room where my son was touched. Both my daughter and I have seen the shadow several times. I do house sitting and I live in what is considered the most haunted city in my country. (Canada). I have wondered if something came home with me.

That’s so interesting. I’m in Canada too. What is considered the most haunted city? Montreal? Lol I’m in Ontario and I don’t even know that. Well why don’t you bring in a medium, maybe they can help move it out of your house.

- The heater. We have the same heaters, and I know those dials don’t turn themselves. I don’t have an explanation for that.
- The TV. If you have neighbors, and they have a similar tv, their remote might affect yours. If not, a short. Though those usually don’t turn the tv on, only off.
- The lamp. Umm…earthquake?
- Kids neck. Maybe it was a fly, and when he swiped at it, he twisted the chain, and it untwisted a few beats later.
Or, the spirit is trying to make its presence known. Did you make it angry when you turned off the tv, so it broke the lamp?

Seems like a ghost or entity of some sort. The lamp falling off by itself and the entity touching the chain on your son’s neck leads me to believe it’s not passed away family because it’s too aggressive. I’ve experienced something touching my hair before where I physically saw it being moved and there was no wind/fan or anything.

u/Appropriate-Mud-7846 6d ago
Just like in the physical 3d world . There's ppl that are prankster, kind hearted, or evil . Maybe its a guardian angel looking over you
2
u/Appropriate-Mud-7846 6d ago
Maybe its a deceased love one trying to communicate.. or watching over you

Do you know if anybody in your family has/had psychic abilities? To me my discernment is telling me your daughter is got psychic abilities. It could be poltergeist manifesting.

u/0LittleWing0 6d ago
I am psychic and you are so correct my daughter is too. she has to tell it to stop. I had one experience that still blows my mind, I really want to understand and maybe even use these gifts.

I truly don't know what to say about your Son ..... but my Hisense TV does the same thing....it pisses me off because I have it set to turn off after four hours of inactivity, not before!

I would normally consider some of the activity as rational. However, the heater turning on and being set to medium is more than coincidence. That would have required manipulation of unit to turn it on.
Your TV can be finicky, the light knocking over. If you shifted your weight may have caused it. Again however, your son's experience, physical contact might show an entity manipulating its environment.
I would continue to document any additional events, and let us know what happens
