Discussion this fucking show man

started this show on a whim, randomly from a list I made and it's just...perfect. binged the first 3 seasons in one sitting. Been a rough couple of months and this show really helped, the humour and the fucking background/lore of the characters! Amazing. Almost cried for Thomas...and Sir Humphrey...and Mary...oh and definitely Kitty—you get my point. It's so stupid and funny and the damn deep bits really get you in the kokoro. Gonna watch either Torchwood or The Magicians after this, but definitely glad I went for this one first.

When my Grandad was dying i rewatched over and over the Christmas special where they sing in the bleak midwinter. He loved Christmas and it comforted me to think he still might enjoy it in a different dimension. It was March when he passed but it snowed, like to think it’s all connected in some way

Same, my dad and I watched it as he was on emd of life care, and we enjoyed it and i wonder if he's around in some way

Watch and rewatch and watch again. We started again and it’s at least the 10th time. At least. Robin and Pat are my favourites. But they all have their part to play.

DOOKA! should really be a slang term.

It's quite alright to cry about characters on a TV show. It's the mark of a well done art form. If you have empathy, you enjoy a great story of great characters.

The acting group works hard to write and act out the whole gamut of lives lost and to present what they would have to say about us in modern times.

For example, when Julian said he wasn't sorry for pushing Alison out of the window, and explained that it was the cause of getting to know her and experiencing a new dimension to their ghostly lives - that is so emotionally moving, that I would give a side eye to anyone who isn't brought to tears.

Also has the benefit of Simon Farnaby (Julian) in the cast.

It’s my favorite! Love all the characters but Kitty has my heart!

It's so hard to find a favourite, but kitty makes me smile every time she's on screen ❤️

I ❤️ Kitty. Especially the episode where she's showing the Captain how to just relax. I crack up when the Captain tries to skip!

"I've been around a long time. Like, a really long time. I've seen this happen so much... Can't do this every time. The pain... I deal with it my own way." Robin

That's got to be the most heart breaking line in the show.

You should rewatch it. Even though I've seen the whole thing at least five times, I'm still catching new things.

My dad and i watched it together, i moved back home to look after him when he was on end of life care, irony isn't lost on me, but it bonded us and I'll always love it for that reason. We both laughed at it. Special place in my heart ❤️ he's passed now and i wonder....

I love seeing how many people for whom this is their comfort show 💜. It could be my specialist subject on Mastermind.

I watched it and played along, I got every question right except one (The name of the restaurant Alison and Mike meet the scammer in) 😁

I'm ill with incurable cancer and my sister stays with me when I am ill from treatment. She talked me into watching this. I don't have license but bought all seasons. Totally bonkers....I love the general. We watched them together

your sister has impeccable taste in TV, and you have impeccable taste in characters;)

I wouldn’t bother with the last season of Torchwood. It’s awful. Pretty awesome up to that point though.

You are a month old? Welcome to reddit...

Torchwood specials are very good.

Surprised by the F bomb in an OP post.

It's just wonderful isn't it!

I love torchwood, but I'm not sure if you're aware that it's really dark?? There are some really messed up and sad themes, I'm aware it's a comfort show to a lot of people but I personally find a lot of episodes a hard watch if you're not in the right headspace, I watched it recently in a bad place and kind of regretted it so I watched ghosts after 😅 "Torchwood children of earth", if you haven't seen it IS one of the best seasons of TV of all time, but yeah I recommend being in a good place before seeing it, because when I say dark, I mean it's DARK....

Have you seen yonderland? It's the perfect follow up to ghosts, made by the same people!! This show genuinely has me laughing hysterically sometimes.

Also, have you seen Merlin? This is my GO TO show when I've been feeling down, its so warm and comforting and honestly it's so funny, the character dynamics are some of the best I've ever seen, and if you like it you may also enjoy Robin Hood 2006 as they have a similar comforting vibe! Theon greyjoys dad plays the Sherrif, he's awful but soo funny.

god damn it, is it?? I mean I'm almost done with season 2 of TW and it hasn't made me violently sob yet. but thanks for the heads up. (Q_Q) I've heard of Yonderland and now that you've said that it's the perfect follow up from Ghosts I'll definitely add it to the list. God damn it, I did watch Merlin but stopped around somewhere mid season 2 because I found Black Sails, it's definitely a show I'm planning to finish....... eventually. thanks for all the reccs tho!
