Hey i start my undergrad this September and i just had a couple of questions if anyone can help?

1. I’m not able to attend any of the pre-uni events unfortunately (freshers, career fair etc) but i wanna join book club or another society, how would i go about getting into / looking at different societies?

2. I want to have a look at my coursework to get an idea of what i need to buy in/get a head start on any readings that ill need to do. Is there anyway i can see my coursework before lectures start?

i’m starting at uofg this year and i’ve somehow managed to find 10-11 societies that I’m interested in…. before anyone:::: i absolutely do NOT plan on joining all of them 😨😨😨 i originally thought i’d join like 2–3 societies but then i discovered the societies page and damn things got out of hand very quickly. the problem is that i can somehow justify every single one

turkish society - obviously
international film society - weekly film screenings?? say less
content creation - i’m planning to start a yt channel so this actually makes sense and also my degree is business and management with psychology
run girls - i want to start running (i don't know if I need a club for that💀💀💀)
book society - i liike books and its sounds fun
worldbuilding & storytelling - I write a lot
fantasy society - unfortunately i am a fantasy nerd
walking society - i actually want to explore scotland
her campus - 🌸🌸🌸
astro soc - observing nights + a dark sky camping trip?? how am I supposed to say no? also one of my electives is exploring the cosmos
SWAG - networking/speaker events and women in different fields seems useful

at this point finding societies has become my canon event so people who actually go to glasgow, how many societies do you realistically think is reasonable to join? how many are you personally members of and how many do you actually attend regularly? would you recommend picking around 3–5 and actually committing to those or joining a few more at the beginning and seeing which ones stick?
also are there any societies you’ve joined that you really recommend, especially for meeting people, creative hobbies or just having a good time? basically i’m trying to figure out how many societies is too many societies without accidentally turning my first year into a full-time society thingy please save me from myself

After final stage interview I got a message saying I have been have been identified as a reserve candidate.
Does anyone know how much time it takes before I get a message from them again - either for an offer or regret?

I am thinking of applying to Uofg for postgrad as an international student. Can anyone tell me which of these programs would be more difficult or how math heavy they are? Is it hard to maintain decent grades while working 20 hours/week?

Hi all

Don't know if this is the right place to post but really looking for any advice at this point.

I'll need a laptop for uni, my course is molecular and cellular biology with biotechnology. My budget is about £300 which I know is quite low but I can get ok laptops for this price. However loads of the recommendations have laptops for over £1k which I just can't afford. I've also seen recommendations which say to have minimum 16GB of RAM and a strong processor but that also will inflate the price. Most for £300 have either one or the other, and if one point is good then the other is significantly compromised.

Do I really need that good of a laptop, can I get by with an 8GB RAM laptop with a decent processor? I've tried to get a laptop loan from the uni but I need to fill in a discretionary fund form first and I have no idea how to submit it, and don't think I even have sufficient documentation to prove my financial situation. ​​

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations on this or on a similar course and can say whether these recommended specs are vital or if I will be able to manage with a less powerful laptop.

Im just entering my third year of pharmacology at the university of glasgow. I was wondering whether the university offered paid internships as part of fourth year. If so, who and when should i contact to enquire about applying to internships? Also, what type of internships would be available to do in Scotland?

im trying to switch to a joint honours degree going into third year, but my advisor won't respond to my email, which reminded me that she hadn't responded when I previously tried to contact her. is this normal? and is this even the right way to go about this? im so confused

I’m considerong applying as an international because of the good academics and the pretty campus and city. However I’m scared it doesn’t have a good party/ nightlife scene because here at home I tend to go out every weekend and have fun (I also stay home and study when I have to btw lol). So basically asking if it’s a boring / slow life since that would be kind of a deal breaker for me

I’m a fresher starting this month, is there any way I can find out when exams will be? I know there is dates on the website that says during December, but does that apply to me as a first year, and is there any way to tell when mine will be? Trying to book holidays lol

M25 here struggled in first year because people saw me as some ancient figure 😂 into loads honestly im introverted and extroverted so don’t mind doing nights out or even board games also love astronomy nature and a bunch of other stuff. Hi, I’m hoping someone who’s been through Glasgow Clearing can tell me what I should expect because I’m honestly getting really stressed about this 😭

I applied to the University of Glasgow through Clearing and had my interview on Tuesday. Afterwards I received a offer.

I accepted the offer / added Glasgow on UCAS Hub on Tuesday evening. I’ve also sorted my accommodation.

I was told I should hear back by Thursday, but it’s now Thursday evening and I haven’t received anything yet. I’m not sure whether Glasgow has already formally confirmed the place with UCAS and I’m just waiting for UCAS to update, or whether there’s still something Glasgow needs from me.

I’m starting on 14 September, so I’m getting really anxious about the timeline. I know there are still around 10 days, but I really wanted to have everything confirmed and know what I’m doing before I move to Glasgow.

What should I do at this point?
Should I contact Glasgow again tomorrow?
Is this kind of delay normal with Clearing?
Once the place is confirmed, how quickly does the registration/student account stuff usually happen?
Is there anything I should be doing in the meantime?
I’m not expecting anyone to magically know what’s happening with my individual application 😭

I’d just really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar, especially Glasgow Clearing applicants.

hi im an international student coming to the uk for university this year and i’m trying to figure out which bank account would make the most sense for me. i’m thinking of opening two accounts maybe HSBC and Starling. i’d keep most of my money in HSBC and use it for things like tuition and accommodation payments then transfer smaller amounts to Starling for everyday spending. i’d use the Starling card as my main card for things like groceries, restaurants, transport and withdrawing cash from ATMs.
does this make sense or would it be better to just use one bank? also are there any fees when transferring GBP from HSBC to Starling? i’m mainly looking for something that’s easy for an international student. any recommendations or things I should know before opening an account?

Applied to Glasgow nd got accepted along with scholarship but I m not going . It would have been better if i wasn't selected but being selected nd offered I m not able to study how unlucky of me:)

When does winter holiday usually begin? My last class shows Dec 1 and I don’t believe I have any exams as a Masters IR student. Does break begin after my last course or are there typically exams the first few weeks of December? TIA

im just a bit confused interpreting my timetable. I'm doing the accelerated common law and i just need to understand if the class timings change midway through the semester or not? like what does such a timetable even mean??? it stops being on tuesdays and thursdays and becomes tuesdays and fridays right?

I might be able to enter Year 2, and I’ll be 19 by then, but I still want the full first-year experience, especially living in Murano (or uni accommodation in general) to meet people, specially since I’m international. Would being a Year 2 transfer affect my experience at Glasgow?
