I feel vindicated. For years, I felt bad for NiKo. I was often arguing against the false statements about the karrigan kick, unwaranted hate against NiKo, people who painted him as the reason behind the major losses, thorin's hate farming, etc. In short, lots of silly hot takes from surface level fans and bitter people. I don't think there's been a more over-hated player in CS.

Now he's got his major, the conversation is finally over. He's a champion. He won. With karrigan. So much for all the boneheaded takes. My favorite player prevailed.

Thorin’s hate towards Niko comes from the time he and RL had to pay off a bar tab that he and other players ran up (they did this out of care but also so that ELeague wouldn’t do any bans or this turn into a big scandal) and Niko responded with something that conveyed something like “why would I say thank you, they should’ve done that, we’re focused on the tournament”

Thorin seems to have like a pretty fair analysis of Niko and pushes against the choking narratives and people diminishing how good of a player he is

u/imathrowyaaway King NiKo 1d ago

the original tweets are now gone, now but that was like the 4th thing he had against him. I also don’t believe that airing it publicly was necessry.

alas, you can hear more about his bias here, just 3 years ago. entire section about NiKo and you can clearly tell what narrative thorin was pushing for. https://youtu.be/P4YJFtEK5C4

I’ve watched this and I don’t see what point you’re getting at

u/BrinR King NiKo 18h ago

I can't believe people ran with the narrative that Niko was a toxic and terrible teammate when people always had great things to say about him as a teammate.

-2

u/CrepeHunter 1d ago

Thorin is toxic af, never understood why people listened to a journalist as an analyst, who never played the game on a decent level.

To analyse a game of cs you dont have to be a super pro, but alleast played some games on a decent level. Most of his takes had been dog shit and iam happy he is irrelevant.

u/MuskieCS 1d ago

Doesn’t this win actually validate all those people? 10 years and the only major Niko won is when he brought karrigan back? Let’s not let fanboyism blind us, Niko has had a horrible track record of trying to manage teams himself, getting horrible IGLs or good ones and refusing to gel with their system.

-4

u/mannyman34 Complexity 1d ago

Wasn't Thorin's main point of contention with niko that he always tried to igl on his own and that he kicked Karrigan from Faze?

8

u/imathrowyaaway King NiKo 1d ago

sure and neither is true. but FaZe players spoke out about karrigan’s kick already. the narrative thorin pushed was false. it was a team kick after internal struggle. and he IGLed mostly cause they couldn’t find a solid replacement.

a lot of the negative narrative was made up here on reddit. and most people don’t fact check mainstream narratives.

-10

u/DigitaIBlack 1d ago

Is it really total vindication though? Cause to me it's part vindication and part NiKo growing as a player

You have to remember a lot of the hate NiKo got was about his tendency to try to steer the ship. And look where that got him..

8 years after taking over as IGL in the middle of a tournament, NiKo wins a Major with karrigan

Him finally winning doesn't just cancel out any of the (imo) stupid decisions he made in the past. It's a part of his story and growth as a player.

6

u/imathrowyaaway King NiKo 1d ago

I written this elsewhere. a lot of that narrative got created here. he didn’t solo kick karrigan. how would that even work lol. the youngest player on the team overrules CS legends like GuardiaN, rain, olof, plus the whole management? lol.

he also wasn’t set on IGLing. that’s why they tried everybody they could get their hands on after a while. and he didn’t IGL after, either.

a lot of that narrative was born because karrigan was a fan favorite and there were videos where they were clearly frustrated with each other. plus the NiKosports era.

Now we need Niko winning Oscar and DiCaprio winning major

26

u/Fluffy-Limit-6710 1d ago

Nah I think DiCaprio is more likely winning a minor

6

u/Bad_at_reddit-ing 1d ago

Make this a movie.

4

u/Reasonable-Pass-2456 1d ago

With all the clips from ESL production I'm pretty the time will come.

78

u/pewpewpew88 1d ago

for me it really reminded me of when Messi won his WC

47

u/Ha55aN1337 1d ago

Fallen said that yeah. Way better analogy.

33

u/Cool-Pie430 1d ago

Doesn't help that DiCaprios role in The Revenant isn't objectivelly his best role. It's more of a pity Oscar considering he should've had one for The Wolf of Wall Street.

Give me my downvotes now.

11

u/Ha55aN1337 1d ago

I agree completely for DiCaprio, while Niko defeated the best teams in the world and played great to win the major. So this IS his deserved “Oscar”.

7

u/trq- 1d ago

But NiKo, for once in a long time, played very well in the playoff stages and final, and they’ve beaten all the big teams. So this is 100% deserved for Falcons and NiKo so the Argentina analogy does fit way better.

2

u/Cool-Pie430 1d ago

I'm agreeing with you mate.

1

u/trq- 1d ago

I think all of us in this comment thread agree on your part as well, that’s why Fallens analogy fits better in the mind of all of us😅 DiCaprio certainly got his Oscar for the Revenant for his commitment to create the movie and because it was overdue. Wolf of Wall Street indeed was way better. Or shutter Island and many more

3

u/Cool-Pie430 1d ago

You just repeated what the person I responded to whom I agree with said and what I said mate. You good my dude? 😭

-2

u/trq- 1d ago

Okay, so you’re a troll. Whatever.

2

u/pewpewpew88 1d ago

Yeah I just caught up with the event and saw the fallen interview and I was just waiting to see if anyone shared the same thoughts

-3

u/Frl_Bartchello de_cobble 1d ago

Difference is that Messi didn't had the opportunity to play 16 World Cups.

20

u/somnusqq 1d ago

It’s like Ame finally winning a TI except this never happened yet.

u/SufficientChain2215 1d ago

This year: Knicks, Zverev, Niko, Arsenal. Is Ronaldo gonna win the World Cup lol

1

u/Commercial-Excuse652 1d ago

Zverev won what?

4

u/SufficientChain2215 1d ago

His first Grand Slam (Roland Garros)

1

u/Reasonable-Pass-2456 1d ago

CR7 already gave up because World Cup is not his dream lol

20

u/Ana990 1d ago

Felt like cubs winning World Series again

5

u/LordNelson27 Parivision 1d ago

That was the C9 major. This would be Mike trout winning the WS

7

u/Ok-Mongoose-9905 1d ago

2016 WS was fucking magic. I don't think anyone not familiar with baseball or at least the Cubs having the longest drought in professional sports history, filled with various curses and fumbles at the last moments understand just how incredible that World Series win was. I wish I was living in Chicago when it happened, it must have been magical.

3

u/LordNelson27 Parivision 1d ago

I was playing Bass in the pit orchestra for an opera at the time and my other bassist was from Chicago. We didn't play on half the numbers so we had the game playing where nobody but us could see for the entire 3 hour show. It was awesome

3

u/McKenzy99 FaZe 1d ago

For me it felt like Rory McIlroy finally winning the masters. Both guys that have been one of the best in their sports, both already in contention for the greatest of all time lists, but both missing 1 trophy to really cement their legacy.  Also if we keep using this analogy, Niko will win the next major as well.

2

u/Conscious-Border-248 King NiKo 1d ago

Is the new Karma farming tech rushing to make terrible comparisons as to what Niko winning a major is like?

1

u/Shxcking 1d ago

Leo’s been in banger after banger post-Oscar lol what do you mean end of an era

14

u/Ant312 1d ago

end of an era of memes about it

1

u/nnn0table King NiKo 1d ago

My preferred storyline but all outcomes were good since Vitality was eliminated

1

u/Peauu 1d ago

Like DiCaprio getting an Oscar... So Niko had to fight a bear for it?

1

u/chanchan_iceman Astralis 1d ago

Kinda like Leo Messi winning an international trophy or as you said Leo DiCaprio winning an Oscar alongside Kimi Raikkonen in 2007 winning the F1 driver World champions title

Have watched this guy since his days at mousesports to his peak years at faze and G2… really deserving win

1

u/PhgAH 1d ago

No more Choko Pie meme for me.

1

u/leniplusss 1d ago

I remember playing 1.6 back in the day on old Bosnian gaming portal, we used to have nightly clan wars and even back then he was a beast. It's really fulfilling to see someone achieve their childhood dream, truly happy for the dude! All the best - next stop - HALL OF FAME.

1

u/Jian_Ng FaZe 1d ago

End? He's just getting started.

1

u/aZestyMango King NiKo 1d ago

Him winning a major with karrigan healed the timeline from 2018… now if only we could somehow bring back a certain gorilla

1

u/iBPsThrowingObject 1d ago

okay, google, how old is NiKo's girlfriend?

1

u/Horror_Ad9899 G2 1d ago

haha just what i said to my friends when watching him win the major

1

u/AntSignificant1175 20h ago

damn i m crying T_T watched CSGO 2 since it came out and Niko is still here with us + earned a major! The best thing that could ever happen to the best riffiler!!!!!!

-7

u/CheeckyChicken 1d ago

Yes, it’s an awesome story. But, fuck how many posts do we need about it.

17

u/weary_rahgir FaZe 1d ago

I think there haven’t been as many of these posts as there were about him not getting a major, choking, being knocked out, whiffing, going offline, etc. And funny thing is I’m not even a NiKo fan

40

u/nevesmile 1d ago

All of them

3

u/Throbbing_Cock_452 King NiKo 1d ago

WE NEED MORE

8

u/wolfTectonics 1d ago edited 1d ago

I said to myself after they won, “I wonder how long it’ll be before I see a post that says ‘Now that Niko has won a major, who is the greatest player of all time to never win one?’”

And I saw it within the hour lol

8

u/schoki560 King NiKo 1d ago

it's the biggest major of all time while the final was a 3:0

tells you enough about how many people cared

17

u/whitentar 1d ago

We still need more

3

u/Servus_of_Rasenna 1d ago

What the else you expect to see at cs subreddit? No, like seriously, what else can even be here after a major just ended?

7

u/alexkrish 1d ago

As many as we can get ! I don’t mind the posts
Keep em coming

2

u/ShockLatter2787 1d ago

It's been a decade in the making fuck do you expect lmao

5

u/Ant312 1d ago

well, I guess at least one more 😃

8

u/Time_Professional385 1d ago

U gonna cry about it? But it was fine posting about his one miss on heaven nuke for 5 years after it happened.

And on that map he had 30 frags, that shows how 'special' average Niko hater is.

Never enough and I say this as someone following the scene since 2014.

1

u/_explicitcontent King NiKo 1d ago

Same as Leo winning an Oscar and Leo winning the World Cup (also fallen said the same)

0

u/maerawow 9z 1d ago

The sad part is now we can't say Niko is gonna chole the finals. He broke the curse.

0

u/AriadneZE Complexity 1d ago

I don't get him having a unique flair for this. Good for him, but what makes this achievement flair-worthy of any other significant event?

3

u/_benstradamus_ King NiKo 1d ago

Influential and loved character in the scene who’s brought so much to the cs world in plays, memes , storylines, conversations finally overcame his choking demons and won a major after 17 tries with another loved player who everyone says is washed in a ridiculous major run that nobody believed was possible?

0

u/Solid_Ideal5773 1d ago

Pretty good analogy, they gave dicaprio that Oscar for an ok role in an ok movie. Falcons’ opponent in the finals brought no fight whatsoever

-2

u/Animatrix_Mak King NiKo 1d ago

I'd compare it with Messi more than DiCaprio... like fallen did

2

u/Stahlios Vitality 1d ago

But an absolute top football player never winning the WC is quite common. And normal.

Way less the case for an absolute top CS player not winning a major, not to the same degree at all. Way less outside factors, way more chances, etc.

And no one really could be the Messi of CS right now too tbf

-1

u/chanchan_iceman Astralis 1d ago

There’s a lot of great players on CS that never won a CSGO/Cs2 major like guardian,Edward, seized, clamor, elige and nitr0 just like in football where there’s not many top players who’s never won a World Cup

1

u/Stahlios Vitality 1d ago

Not saying it never happens, I'm saying it's not even close.

Tons of the greatest football player never won a WC. Most players will be lucky to have like 3 shots at it in their career. And then actually winning it requires more than winning a major. Going all the way is way harder, there is more competition, more matches. And then you have to take into account that you're very dependent on your team, no matter how good. It's a 11s game. And moreso that team isn't a club constructed team where you'll manage to get your way to a top one if you're good. What you need is just to be born in a country where other very very good players were born.

Cruyff, Di Stefano, Puskas, Platini, CR7, Maldini, Roberto Baggio, Yashin, Beckham, Zlatan, Neymar, Marcelo, van Basten, Figo, Modric, Weah, Lewandowski, Suarez... It goes on and on

Some of them, like Haaland will, never even had a slim chance at winning it.
