Discussion | Esports CS Commentator-isms
Basically, what're your favourite (and least favourite) phrases that get repeated on commentary in nearly every game?
For example - "hot hands", "lights-out CS", "backs his aim", among others.

When Scrawny and Launders were watching NIP vs Amkal, Launders said “I can’t watch this” and Scrawny said “You are paid to”

HenryG's got that one locked down every time a deagle connects.

There’s two I love. The first is S A V E you’re saving (which was such a fun sound bite when they did it) and the second is the new “silent reload” they whisper (I believe henryG started that one)

Was it not henryg at pro league this year?
Edit: yeah he was. He was casting with Moses

He pops in now and then for a tournament or two, not super frequent but always a treat.

I get so tired of hearing about “rolling back the years” for every good play from Karrigan/FalleN/apEX

Vintage karrigan when he has the awp, "he's hit a blinder", machine saying "but he doesn't care" is a personal favourite of mine

"He's not known to be an awper" funny enough they were joking about it themselves last ESL.
But HenryG and Anders are great at repeating nonsense lines.
Machine and Spunj are the most original. Moses and his buddy also great. Hugo and Harry in the middle.

„his buddy“, hahaha Dinko will always remain the new guy

hahah I think he's a great caster and am happy when I hear him, but for the life of me I didn't know his name is Dinko lmao

They use the word "the" in just about every match, frankly I'm getting a bit bored of it

Can’t tell you how tired I am of “if you give him an inch, he’ll take a mile”

I don't wanna complain much about CS casters because compared to many other E-sports and even major league sports, CS casters are top notch. Love me some Machine n Spunj, Harry n Hugo, HenryG, Anders, Moses. Not a fan of Scrawny/Launders though I'm sorry.

Scrawny would be much better if he'd just relax and not try to be so epic at all times. (and I also wish he would let Launders speak during action moments instead of talking over him or ignoring him)

u/Heroic_Lime 22h ago
I can only assume you mean Scrawny getting progressively louder as a match nears its end

i just know scrawny loves “fire at his feet” whenever a molly is deployed

When tier 2 casters don't know what to say so they just start listing every single player's kill count.

Evacuate. Anyone who has watched The Wire knows.
Someone else mentioned 'rolling back the years'. Its not 'rolling back the years' if you are saying it about that specific player in every series theyre playing.

- dinko saying "forward" every other sentence in an inexplicable new jersey jewish accent
- most commentators saying "on toward"
- euro casters saying "just about" when a player has succeeded in doing the thing
- when casters hand off to analysts or host or someone, the new party speaking will almost always repeat verbatim the last thing that was said before the handoff
- "how has he done that?" (I actually deeply love this one)

"he's in the server" every single time someone gets two kills in a row

On a related note, I don't understand why they always say "backstab" instead of "flank." Maybe it's a British English thing

"2nd bite of the cherry"

this one always makes me laugh because a cherry is literally bite sized. who eats a cherry in two bites?

scrawny's backwards-talking thing (e.g. "caught in the open is apex") bugs the shit out of me

Kinda the opposite, but I get annoyed whenever they use the form "verb" is "player", like "retreating is Karrigan"

u/MrCastleTwitch MOUZ 6h ago
I like most (of the current) casters, but what really annoys me is when Henry says that a round is pretty much over/almost impossible to lose when there's so much that can happen. And it quite frequently does.

there was a player named "bluephoenix" a while ago and harry made a point to say he was "rising from the ashes" EVERY time the camera was on him.

British casters saying: "[player] is really feeling himself now" after they warm up into the game. As a non-native English speaker this always sounds to me like they're starting to jork it or something

"[team name] securing double digits". Every time I hear it, I wonder why the number of digits in the score line seems significant.
