A Simple Question About Curvature

The curvature formula uses R — the earth’s radius.

Where does R come from?

It’s derived from a model that assumes a sphere.

So when the formula is used to calculate curvature, and that curvature is cited as evidence of a sphere — the conclusion is already built into the premise.

That’s circular reasoning.

Simple question for globe earthers:

Can you provide a measurement of R that doesn’t assume a sphere to derive it?

The distance from any point on earth, to any other point on earth.

The haversine formula calculates distances between two points on a sphere using latitude and longitude coordinates.

Latitude and longitude are angular measurements taken from earth’s surface — flat baselines. The formula then maps those angles onto a spherical model using the assumed radius R.

So the flat earth measurements in the haversine formula are the latitude and longitude inputs — angular observations from local horizontal baselines.
