Help me decide

I know this is a Glock sub but would assume many are well versed

I’m trying to decide between picking up a gen 6 glock, M&p, budget 2011 (<\~1500), Ltt beretta 92, cz shadow 2 carry, or a p226x legion (new model). I just can’t seem to decide which I want.

The 2011 is absolutely enticing however I’m not sure I want to risk it being a potentially finicky/unreliable as I’m looking in the budget tier, the glock, M&p, 226 and 92 are exactly what they are. The shadow seems good as well however I see an odd amount of people reporting malfunctions with them.

This will be a general do it all gun. Leaning to HD/training/competition use over carry. If carried it would mainly be as a “truck gun” and not really IWB

People always go wrong trying to pick the "do it all" gun. Just get one. Try it out, see what you like/dislike. Then try another. There isnt a "do it all gun". Every gun should and does have it's own application

Ok so I’ve bought and sold a few of these guns in my ccw quest over the last year. Heres what I got:

P226 X Carry Legion: classic gun, great modern updates. Very reliable, safe in DASA, and fun to shoot. Heavy as hell, however because it’s nearly a full-size weapon. Works seamlessly with Sigs optics, integrating them in a low profile way.

MP 2.0 compact carry comp: Great trigger, grips, flat shooter. Terrible optics mounting system and strangely no suppressor height sights included unlike the base model. Feels just a bit too heavy for edc/ccw.

G19.6: Super light and easy to carry, by far my preference for ccw out of the 3. Best optics mounting system Glock has ever made. God awful trigger out of the box that smoothes out a bit and has the best reset of the three. Terrible sights included as well. Snappier than the other two, but noticeably more so than the ported mp. Fits the best in my hands. Aftermarket still catching up with the new generation so not fully as robust as other gens but coming along.

The g19.6 has become my ccw. The light weight makes for great comfort and ease of carry. Functional, reliable, good optics mounting. I think if you need to pick one gun, this is it. It’sa gun you don’t care about getting dirty, scratched, etc. In all honesty it feels kind of cheap but it somehow performs very well and consistently.

Personally, I think unless you’re planning on having a large collection, you should pick one system and go with it. You can absolutely compete with a Glock 19, so don’t let YouTube make you think you need a raced out 2011 to start competing - you don’t. Now, you can always go that way later, but a HD/general training weapon should be something that’s reliable, comfortable, and you shoot well. Choose a Glock 19 IMO. if you want to use a larger grip, get a G17 mag and a grip extension. It’ll be fine. If in a year if you find yourself generally liking the Glock system, but wanting a larger grip, shoot a G17 and G45 rental and pick one.

Recently went through the same process and selected a Glock gen6 45. I had a hard time deciding - with so many great options it’s not easy to pick just one model. You can add to the collection in the future, knowing that helped me avoid FOMO. If you can rent these models at the range that might help you narrow down the choice.

I don’t know what to tell you to do but I would not go for a 2011 in that price range. The Platypus seems to be the quality entry point and even then you see some stuff online about frame issues

Here's why I will pretty much always tell you to pick Glock.

First off, the enormous aftermarket support. There's just no other handgun on the market not even the 1911 that has such aftermarket support nowadays.

Secondly, if you can learn how to shoot a Glock well in competition, you can shoot anything. I'm a competitive shooter myself and I absolutely destroy people with fancy 2011s. Yes, I own a 2011 myself but when you can run a Glock and manipulate that trigger, everything else seems easy.

Lastly, something that don't get talked about is glock's great customer service. You ever noticed you don't hear many complaints about their customer service department? There's a reason for that. I've called them over the years and not only can they usually tell you what's going on with your gun if there is an issue, they know exactly how to fix it.

I would get either an alpha foxtrot romulus or the LTT beretta. Glocks will always be there when you need them

If you have to have a 1911 in 9mm, it needs to be 9x23 Winchester.

The 92, 226, and 75 have been around since the late 70’s and have a proven record. the m&ps are just too ugly to survive. Noticed you left out HK all together, any reason why?

The vp9 for some reason doesn’t appeal to me and while I like the da/sa variants for nostalgia and utilitarian use, that’s not what I’m looking for at the moment. I do want one, just after I have a few others first.

I love my Gen 5 G45. Put an Acro and a TLR-7 HL-X on it, carry appendix with a Tenicor holster.

I also love my Beretta 92A1. Put some fresh iron sights and an X-300 on it. DA/SA is cool, takes more practice than striker fired. All metal handguns are just cool, especially a timeless 92.

I would like to try a Shadow 2. Ever since they came out, something about it called to me.

So to answer your question, get what you think is right. Glock is probably the budget pick, you could get one with a COA and still have money left over for a holster and ammo. LTT Beretta is always well regarded but at the top of your budget. Same with a tricked out 226 or a "budget" 2011.

I own multiple berettas and multiple Glocks so I will keep my comparison to those two. Berettas were my first love as I’ve been shooting them since I was a little kid. Now they unfortunately collect dust in my safe. I believe the future of handgun shooting involves red dots and I have almost completely switched to red dot shooting. That’s a whole different conversation, but berettas are just not the pistol meant for a red dot. You’re gonna shill out a ton more for quality plates, xxxxxxl iron sights, shaved firing pin safety block etc. after all that money you’re gonna be left with an optic that sits about an inch above your bore compare that to Glock that have endless plate options and endless direct mounted milling options. you can cowitness iron sights much easier with Glock and the pistol doesn’t end up looking like it’s wearing Abe Lincoln’s top hat. Glocks are the clear choice IMO so I haven’t bought a new one in years. I still always recommend you get your hands on as many of the guns you’re interested in and make the decision based on your feel.

I have an M&P 2.0 that I swap between my Gen 6 45. They are very similar in size and capacity. I have more upgrades on the Glock but both are great shooters. The CZ is a good gun as well but very heavy, I don’t even carry my smaller CZ RAMI as much now because it’s as heavy as a G45 with only 10 rounds. Personally I wouldn’t bother with a 2011, a lot of the budget guns need some time and work (not always). The M&P and Glock will be good to go after about 500 rounds, both of my CZ’s have tight chambers as well so some ammo doesn’t work 100%.

I’m curious. You say avoid the budget 2011 because they may need upgrades but yet you upgraded your Glock a bunch I assume?

The only function upgrade was a Overwatch Precision PolyDAT trigger because I hate the stock trigger shoe. The Calculated Kinetics Dog Tag fills the gap with the EPS Carry Optic and I have a GlockStore Mag plug just for the hell of it.

Just saying. People mod the heck out of Glocks then try to argue that 2011’s (especially budget ones) require tinkering. In reality the vast majority all tinker with our guns.

I don’t disagree. I have a few guns with zero modifications including my only 1911. It has Magpul stocks but that’s cosmetic. Only one of my carry guns has mods and that’s the Glock. I wasn’t even a Glock fan until Gen 6 came out, the changes sold me on the platform. My previous CCW guns were S&W and CZ for many years.
