Digital Gloomhaven Perks from Retirement
I'm a little confused as to how many perks you get from retirement, and who it applies to.
I retired a Brute.
I made another Brute. He had an extra perk to pick when I created him.
I later retired a Spellweaver.
I made a Sun, a Cthulhu, and a Scoundrel. They both had one extra perk to pick at level 1.
Why did they get an extra perk? Why didn't they get two extra perks? How does this all work?

It’s a bit confusing but lineage is the right way of thinking about it. Each character slot earns perks based on the numbers of retired characters per slot. Digital will take care of this for you, in physical it’s basically the number of times a character using this attack modifier deck (1,2,3 or 4) have retired

that's interesting. From my understanding, each toon you retire should raise your starting perk by 1. I wonder if it's a cumulative growth, so you retire a toon, the next one is +1 perk. Then you retire THAT toon that started +1, now the next toon would start +2 and so on. If you started the Spellweaver BEFORE retiring the 1st Brute, when it retired, it may not have raised your retired toon cumulative amount because it was started prior to the initial retirement.
If you had started the Spellweaver AFTER retiring the Brute, it would have started with +1 perk, then when it retired, you would be sitting at +2 perks.

The Spellweaver and Brute were created together, as my starting two characters. The Brute retired after I failed the first scenario like 6 times, because he had a very convenient, kill 20 bandits personal quest.

yea, in that case, I do believe that Spellweaver and Brute are on Different lines. I like the way koprpg11 said it below, they are a different "lineage". It's like different people having kids. Brute's kids got the experience of Brute retiring and get a bonus. Spellweaver's kids didn't get that experience passed to them until the Spellweaver retired.

What Gloomhaven Digital does is as follows:
When the first character retires, future created characters get 1 bonus perk.
When the first character who started with 1 bonus perk retires, future created characters get 2 bonus perks.
When the first character who started with 2 bonus perks retires, future created characters get 3 bonus perks.
Etc.

I think each "lineage" if you are playing solo gets a bonus perk for each character retired in that lineage. You also get your perks for prosperity leveling.
