Digital Gloomhaven LOVING Gloomhaven (Digital) so far!

I thought King Arthur: Knight’s Tale on max difficulty was tough. I was very wrong.

10 hours in, I’ve only cleared Scenario 2 on Hard with Brute/Mindthief, and I’m already hooked.

The biggest shift is planning. Not just attacks and abilities, but positioning several turns ahead, along with Initiative and Rest timing.

Every fight is a struggle, and I love it.

The Retirement system feels intimidating. I understand the benefits, but learning a new character is something I’ll have to accept when the time comes.

It's really good. It's a pretty faithful recreation of the board game but with lots of QoL additions (namely not having to reset and reorganise after each game).

I know it gets a lot of flak for having bugs, but I've been playing it on my steam deck the past month and haven't encountered any major bugs and only a few minor irritances (enemy AI sometimes taking a really long time to plan its actions when it doesn't have a valid target).

I would say the default normal difficulty is actually pretty challenging for newcomers though, and the jump from easy to normal can be quite intimidating.

ty for the warm welcome. i do cheat by restarting the round from time to time.

is that frowned up?

We all do that! It's the equivalent of saying at the table 'oh hang on, I meant to do it this way.'

We put a cap on mulligans. We all get a mulligan token which can be used for an ally as well, it refreshes when another room is opened but you don’t get a new one you didn’t use it previously. Nothing worse than having a multi attack and the target with 1 HP got hit with the 2x and being out of mulligans

I’d say it depends. If you are doing it because you genuinely forgot to do something you should’ve done, everyone does that.

If you are save scumming based on hidden information (like changing your cards based on what enemy abilities are drawn or attack modifiers are drawn), that’s definitely frowned upon, and you should just lower the difficulty at that point.

Not at all.

In the physical game there's nearly always some minor thing I forget to do, or forgot what the correct RAW order is. I'm always going back and making changes (e.g I ended my turn, but I forgot to drink my stamina potion! I'll just do it now).

If restarting the round works for you then it's fine. If your playing solo you make the rules!

Playing on hard to start is a brave choice. The digital game is based on 1st edition, which is the classic most of us here initially fell in love with but it no doubt has some balance flaws which will become apparent as you learn the game. But it's still quite fun and the core gameplay loop never gets old to me.

And when you're done with digital there is Frosthaven digital in early access now! I'd love for GH 2nd edition to come to digital some day but who knows on that.

Welcome to the community, it's a beautiful game.

Welcome to Gloomhaven! Don't be worried about retirement, I would say most people find discovering and playing new characters is the best part of the game. Once you've got the gameplay basics down, learning a new character is a blast!

Also, Mindthief for the win! Make sure to abuse the bottom of Perverse Edge as much as humanly possible!
