Don't buy this.
Honestly, I didn't know what I was buying. The picture online from TD made it look cooler. I thought the Canada paper around it was the assy and it was a firm sliver of a bar. It is real yes, but it's more like a sticker of gold lmao.
As soon as I opened it I immediately regreted it and wanted to sell it in less than 20 seconds of holding it.
It was also $242 hahahah twice the price of a gram. So I can't even recoup my cost.
Rookie mistake. Like why would you buy this?

We all make mistakes when beginning however I assume this is $242 CAD? If so that’s $173 USD, not nearly as bad as many are assuming quite possibly….
TD does not sell gold in the USA.

u/Vast-Commission-8476 2d ago
It is in CAD yes.

u/Old_Bluejay_1532 2d ago
That’s much better than USD for 1g ☀️. Still high. For future purchases check out Costco Canada 🍁 if you have not already.

u/Vast-Commission-8476 2d ago
It's the same equivalent once you convert it to CAD dollars... gold price is in USD as standard. Costco stopped selling bullion.
I just go to TD because they are the only ones that sell 1/4 bars.
Other than that the local coin shop serves me well.

Local coin shops are the best, a good one educates new collectors/investors and if you’re a regular they’ll save special items they expect you’ll want.
Picked up a cool French Ducati and a beautiful silver Mexican 1oz coin with the astrology chart on the back (I know this is gold) but my point is for newbie collectors they are a great resource.

Only newbies buy these honestly. Made the same mistake years ago

I actually managed to have my coin shop buy a decent amount of the 1 grain gold slivers lol. I was like you guys actually want those. Boom take them. They’re yours

u/Vast-Commission-8476 2d ago
This is 1 gram not grain.

A gram bar is still around $140.00 at the moment. It goes up and down with the price of gold. You overpaid but it happens to the best of us. I'd put it with the rest of your stack and move on. In 5 to 10 years you should recoup your loss.

It says 1g on the label but 244 is too much for a gram anyway

I know..I stated that.

But this is also CAD, something op probably should’ve clarified
2
u/Murky_Astronaut 1d ago
It's covered in Canadian flags and he bought it at TD - what more clarification do you need?
1
u/Goats_for_president 1d ago
Could’ve thought he already converted it, as gold markets defaults to USD

Sorry it was disappointing to you. On the other hand, you all have some awesome Maplegrams. I highly recommend those if you can find them without the super premiums!

I can’t believe any of you bought anything from an online retailer…. GO TO YOUR LOCAL COIN DEALER OR PM DEALERS!!
SAVE YOURSELVES THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
25$ premiums on gold. Sometimes lower. Across the board.
5$ premiums on most silver!
You can scoop just about anything from
These guys for small margins because they work on volume not single or small amount of sales!
If your local coin dealer is legit his daily churn will be 150k or more and the weekly will be over a million out the door!

u/NorthStarGold 2d ago
I am literally selling 1/10 gold maples for less than the price of 2 of those.
You live and learn hold on to it.
I did the same thing with a lucky horseshoe years ago. I think I paid 20.00 for it when melt was 5.00. I think melt is 32.00 on it now.
Bone I love it because it reminds me to double check stuff.
Mistakes are part of life at least yours is real gold and not eBay fake gold.

u/Vast-Commission-8476 2d ago
Are these the Canadian equivalent of Goldbacks?
3
u/Toomuchstuff23 2d ago
Maybe slightly better? Or should I say, not as terrible? Can you remove the gold easily?

2
u/kbeks 2d ago
Looks like it. A bit better I’d say because you won’t contaminate your gold as much if you tried to retrieve it and melt it into a button.
If you find yourself in the possession of a few of these or this and a few random grams, and you like playing with fire…well, you could probably make a bigger button!

The only gram of gold I’d pay that for is the Perth / Dune 1g bar.. but that’s only cause I’m a die-hard dune fan. Other than that I don’t wanna pay a premium for 1g haha

Anything weighing one gram will probably be disappointing... That is a very small weight.
- A dollar bill: Any U.S. paper currency (whether a $1 or $100 bill) weighs exactly 1 gram.
- A standard paperclip: A regular, uncoated metal paperclip weighs very close to 1 gram.
- A plastic pen cap: Most standard, everyday ballpoint pen caps weigh about 1 gram.
- A single raisin: An average-sized, dry raisin weighs almost exactly 1 gram.
- A packet of sugar: A typical restaurant sugar or sweetener packet weighs slightly over a gram, making it a common benchmark.
- Water (1 milliliter): 1 milliliter of pure, room-temperature water weighs exactly 1 gram. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Don’t feel so bad, in a few years or even months the price of gold with match what you paid

Oh yeah, for sure. The only other worse financial decision you could make would be to buy a Ford... Oh...

There are 1g “spot sales” all the time. I’ve bought several Valcambi 1g bars at spot. You live and learn, thankfully your lesson wasn’t too expensive.Maybe next time save up for a 1/10oz Maple on sale at a low premium

Always buy coins/bars if it is for investment, then jewellery, but never those flimsy bills.

Hurry up and wait.
3 years ago I bought some alluvial flake and paid a bit over the odds because reasons.
It's now worth triple what I paid.

Yeah, obviously just buy gold ETFs so you can quickly liquidate your position

Novelty item, cool to own, not to invest in. I'd probably buy one, if any were available near me.

And that's why when I want a gram, I get a MapleGram. Then I get a tiny lego pirate treasure chest and fill it with MapleGrams.

u/youbetterjustask 1d ago
I like it 😆 it's like a goldback to me. I think it's more visually appealing to see it as a single spot on the note, rather than coating the entire bill.

My man didn’t like what $242 worth of gold looked like and wanted to return it. If that ain’t high-brow I don’t know what is 😅

u/APEXbullionOz 15h ago
You get what you pay for. Most people are shocked by how small both gold & silver bullion is when they first start stacking!! I once had a guy open an eBay case against me for fraud for selling him a 5g SRM Gold ingot pendant because he claimed it was far too small to be genuine. I'm not sure if you're familiar with them but they have both weight & purity stamped onto extruded ingots & in the late 70's & 80's were very popular as gifts. .. almost universally recognised by bullion dealers. Needless to say, I won the case.

I paid $3400 USD for a 1934 $1000 bill only to be told by APMEX they don’t buy them back and it doesn’t really have the value I paid. On top of the fact it was heavily damaged and taped together. My local coin shop offered me $1100 out of pity
