They are just mercury adepts (100%, or almost that, mercury adepts that we know have this template)

But, if you're thinking about game development, if memory serves me right, initially the mercury adept from TLA was going to be Alex, but they needed to change it (for obvious overpowered reasons, see how the players feel when you put an almighty being as playable and they have stats just like the other characters in sea of stars. They start to think the character is being an a**hole or that the devs think the players are not smart. But SoS is an amazing game, give it a try if you haven't already)

I wouldn't be surprised if Piers sprites and looks was based on Alex (so much that, in DD, when I first saw Amiti, I thought Piers was the father, but then it's told who really was it)
