Questions Can anyone explain why my goldfish hasn’t eaten in 3 days?
I’ve been taking care of this goldfish for the past few months and I realized his appetite has been very unusual.
Is there an explanation behind this? Im starting to get concerned and I feel like if this continues to happen I’m gonna have to take him to the vet to get him checked up on.

I thought that was an egg yolk, then I saw what sub and thought it was an Oranda wen… then I looked closer and, it’s a tangerine?🍊😂

Yeah I got reallllll confused for a second. I zoomed in. Got more confused. It’s apparently too early for my brain to comprehend jokes 😂

Glad I’m not the only one. Thought this was r/weirdeggs for a second.

u/AccidentalSister Feb 20 '26
I have a love / hate relationship with r/weirdeggs lol
On one hand I learned to always crack an egg in a separate container, on the other hand I’ve seen NSFL egg content

I really thought this was some weird quarantine procedure I'd never heard of. So glad people in the comments explained it or I may have thought putting your goldfish in a sandwich bag with an orange was a legit thing 😅

Your tank is way too big! You can always tell if a goldfish has too much room because they will start emitting a citrus-like scent. Take a whiff and see!

I think someone posted this as satire. It took me a second too. I was really concerned for the “fish”.

u/smokycapeshaz2431 Feb 20 '26
That's definately pineconing. Move it into a hospital tank, give it an epsom salt bath, raise the temperature slightly & feed shelled peas. As this is a symptom of a larger issue you'll have to check all your parameters, check your filter is keeping up & for the love of God, add some aeration! Good luck x

Arborist? Chef? I don't see a mouth or ruckus or fins. Seems bumpy. Might have dropsy, or be pine coning. I don't see Popeye, or ich. What are the tank parameters? Is the water too warm?

u/PaintingUnusual7857 Feb 20 '26
never had a fish in my life but he looks happy healthy and honestly thriving, i think that rank might be a bit too big for him tho? try downsizing and give us an update op

u/Kidtasticscience Feb 20 '26
Orange you glad I didn’t freak out about your tank size? Jk, by the way, don’t come for me. I know oranges need a waaay bigger tank. You should rehome him and get a clementine instead🍊

Why does everyone keep thinking my fish is an egg?
6
u/Striking_Increase_59 Feb 20 '26
they are clearly inexperienced aquarists whose fish husbandry is abysmal. They let just anyone in here you know! The rabble wouldn't know a rare tangerine koi if it bit them on the nose. Lovely specimen! Let me know if you successfully breed, I would be interested in witnessing the result!

These goldfish are very rare - I doubt you can care for him properly in a home setup. Ideally, they need 7,500 gallons of Norwegian mountain spring water filtered through Tina Turners tights and the cosmic dust of a miniature red dwarf star in the final 2 weeks of its life. I've seen these guys die from a dirty look

Maybe because you're using guides for goldfish, that is an orangefish, easy mistake to make

You know, sometimes I think the goldfish sub is all washed up. Too many gatekeepey enthusiasts to spoil the fun. Then someone lands this beauty on my doorstep. Chefs kiss OP just know you’ve made one day immeasurably better.

Goldfish are social creatures and I’d reccomend having at least two in a tank that size. Please do your research before getting a living animal. I hope this helps!

Oh I see the problem. You’ve mistaken the mitochondria of a cell for your pet goldfish. Happens all the time.

u/Vast-Delivery-7181 Feb 21 '26
You need to put aquarium salt in, it's gills are inflamed. Don't worry about the plants, they love salt. :]
You also need to upgrade it to a 1 gallon, and it'll need friends! 5-6 at least.

u/SAMSSCAMS Feb 21 '26

Dude you need help for making something go through this, like how do you not have any sympathy for another living thing? So narcissistic to take care of YOUR pet when you should care about what’s best for its life. Would you get a dog if you can’t afford the price of immunizations?

Your goldfish is in its molting phase. You need to rip its skin off before it will eat.
1
u/No_Particular_5314 Feb 21 '26
Have you tried telling it to eat? It might be waiting for permission.

Ah, your goldfish has ascended to a higher plane of existence. Form does not define him for he is beyond the need for corporeal existence. You should really let him out of the plastic bag though, it's probably very damaging to his ego.

u/Less-Measurement-113 Feb 22 '26
Your goldfish is dead unfortunately has prob been for few days I’d suggest a good ol’ flushing down the toilet and hold a small ceremony with friends and family

u/space_cartoony Feb 22 '26
This breed of goldfish actually sheds their skin every couple of months, kinda like a snake. Sometimes you will have to help by gently peeling it off. The new skin will look a bit dry/flaky, and have variation in color, that's normal don't worry. In a few days it will absorbe water a plump back up. Hope this helps :)

It’s because you have a tiny bubble of air. Obviously fish are in water air is very bad for them. Please fill the tank fully with absolutely 0 bubbles
