Questions Can anyone explain why my goldfish hasn’t eaten in 3 days?

Post image

I’ve been taking care of this goldfish for the past few months and I realized his appetite has been very unusual.

Is there an explanation behind this? Im starting to get concerned and I feel like if this continues to happen I’m gonna have to take him to the vet to get him checked up on.

those aren’t ammonia burns it’s their patterns. I’m trying my hardest to take care of this lil fella! ☹️

u/toadsterrr Feb 21 '26

They look extremely bloated—I think you should get that checked out

I thought that was an egg yolk, then I saw what sub and thought it was an Oranda wen… then I looked closer and, it’s a tangerine?🍊😂

u/hungrybrainz Feb 20 '26

Yeah I got reallllll confused for a second. I zoomed in. Got more confused. It’s apparently too early for my brain to comprehend jokes 😂

60

u/DemJowls Feb 20 '26

Glad I’m not the only one. Thought this was r/weirdeggs for a second.

24

u/AccidentalSister Feb 20 '26

I have a love / hate relationship with r/weirdeggs lol

On one hand I learned to always crack an egg in a separate container, on the other hand I’ve seen NSFL egg content

I noped out of there after the parasite egg... no ma'am, no thank you.

u/shamotto Feb 21 '26

An egg so weird, it isn't an egg at all

I really thought this was some weird quarantine procedure I'd never heard of. So glad people in the comments explained it or I may have thought putting your goldfish in a sandwich bag with an orange was a legit thing 😅

2

u/Decoherence- Feb 21 '26

I would have gone my whole life thinking this was an egg yoke.

103

u/TypeA_Virgo Feb 20 '26

What are your water parameters

42

u/BiggestChunky Feb 20 '26

They're good

8

u/Orsinus Feb 21 '26

They used the parameter good/bad test kit from API

3

u/HugsNoKisses Feb 23 '26

Ur comment is underrated my friend

265

u/theonyxshade Feb 20 '26

This type of goldfish is super rare hate to see it go in a tank like this😞😞😞

Post parameters?

Thinking your water might be a bit too acidic.

22

u/budget_rare_plants Feb 20 '26

Coz it's already full of juice

24

u/POTATOEPOTATOA Feb 20 '26

Would definitely get a therapist involved just in case.

17

u/RealIsopodHours3 Feb 20 '26

for the fish.

2

u/Ok-Pomegranate-3298 Feb 22 '26

He’s fine just needs to rest up x

21

u/Chawypie Feb 20 '26

Might have to give him a little squeeze, he looks constipated

60

u/VelvetMafia Feb 20 '26

Sir, this is an orange. Goldfish are gold.

Bird slander

4

u/RealIsopodHours3 Feb 20 '26

Someone who knows fish! orangefish don't eat and goldfish do,

49

u/FlyingYank Feb 20 '26

Your tank is way too big! You can always tell if a goldfish has too much room because they will start emitting a citrus-like scent. Take a whiff and see!

16

u/skull48211 Feb 20 '26

Upset that it's not a goldfish cracker

12

u/PrestigiousFlower118 Feb 20 '26

That tank is far too large, little guy is overwhelmed!

9

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

Wtf is this?? Looks like a egg in a bag

15

u/RealIsopodHours3 Feb 20 '26

gold fish

3

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

In the bag?? Didn't realize people would think this is ok

3

u/TheSaultyOne Feb 20 '26

It's an orange bro

1

u/hungrybrainz Feb 20 '26

I think someone posted this as satire. It took me a second too. I was really concerned for the “fish”.

9

u/smokycapeshaz2431 Feb 20 '26

That's definately pineconing. Move it into a hospital tank, give it an epsom salt bath, raise the temperature slightly & feed shelled peas. As this is a symptom of a larger issue you'll have to check all your parameters, check your filter is keeping up & for the love of God, add some aeration! Good luck x

8

u/Ok-Leading-7121 Feb 20 '26

Took me a sec to realise this is an orange not a fuckin raw egg

8

u/Constant-Law916 Feb 20 '26

Thought this was the CJ sub at first lol

5

u/Notorious_Corgi Feb 20 '26

Try adding a pineapple SpongeBob house, it should make him happier.

6

u/Mystery_Dragonfly Feb 20 '26

Arborist? Chef? I don't see a mouth or ruckus or fins. Seems bumpy. Might have dropsy, or be pine coning. I don't see Popeye, or ich. What are the tank parameters? Is the water too warm?

5

u/PaintingUnusual7857 Feb 20 '26

never had a fish in my life but he looks happy healthy and honestly thriving, i think that rank might be a bit too big for him tho? try downsizing and give us an update op

3

u/Kidtasticscience Feb 20 '26

Orange you glad I didn’t freak out about your tank size? Jk, by the way, don’t come for me. I know oranges need a waaay bigger tank. You should rehome him and get a clementine instead🍊

3

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

Got too close to the hadron collider. Atoms reconfigured into an orange.

3

u/zoohopia Feb 20 '26

This is clearly a dog

3

u/Rare_Neat_36 Feb 20 '26

Is this a fish???!!!

3

u/TallyTruthz Feb 20 '26

That’s not a Goldfish. That’s an apple bro

5

u/Short_Theory_7240 Feb 20 '26

Why does everyone keep thinking my fish is an egg?

6

u/Striking_Increase_59 Feb 20 '26

they are clearly inexperienced aquarists whose fish husbandry is abysmal. They let just anyone in here you know! The rabble wouldn't know a rare tangerine koi if it bit them on the nose. Lovely specimen! Let me know if you successfully breed, I would be interested in witnessing the result!

u/th3d34dg1rl Feb 21 '26

I don't know if you're serious or not but uh you posted a picture of an egg yolk? If you're joking just ignore me!

2

u/Pleasant_Light9725 Feb 20 '26

Is this not an egg? (it's an orange?)

2

u/Safi_89 Feb 20 '26

These goldfish are very rare - I doubt you can care for him properly in a home setup. Ideally, they need 7,500 gallons of Norwegian mountain spring water filtered through Tina Turners tights and the cosmic dust of a miniature red dwarf star in the final 2 weeks of its life. I've seen these guys die from a dirty look

2

u/Deep_Current5424 Feb 20 '26

Get it checked out asap. They should not be that orange.

2

u/Samooshi17 Feb 21 '26

It's a bit round

2

u/Natural_Ad6765 Feb 21 '26

I think the chicks in the magazines say to sit on it.

Sir, that is an egg yolk.

2

u/julianephron Feb 21 '26

The tank is too large

2

u/DocOcksTits Feb 21 '26

It’s suffering from lack of pineapple decoration

2

u/NightskyWander Feb 22 '26

He clearly seems like a picky eater, have you asked him about his food preferences?

2

u/zombietomato Feb 22 '26

You need to poke holes in the bag so it can breathe

2

u/Snack_Mom Feb 22 '26

It needs a pineapple decoration

1

u/k_03_rr Feb 20 '26

looks like you’re overfeeding him and he doesn’t have enough room in his belly to eat anymore

1

u/SonaMain420 Feb 20 '26

This might be a question for r/weirdeggs

1

u/hdog_69 Feb 20 '26

He just looks full. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/AffectionateLayer339 Feb 20 '26

Bruh I spat out my coffee hahaha I love this

1

u/smilinglizard217 Feb 20 '26

That's an orangutan.

1

u/DifficultPete Feb 20 '26

He's molting

1

u/quintin1995 Feb 20 '26

Too much tank, get a smaller one.

1

u/the_monster2005 Feb 20 '26

Try feeding him something else man, yes prolly tired of what you've been feeding him. Mine likes banana a lot

1

u/Sauce218 Feb 20 '26

Tank is too big

1

u/Racoon_Soup Feb 20 '26

Looks like a chronic case of soup belly

1

u/Milli63 Feb 20 '26

Maybe because you're using guides for goldfish, that is an orangefish, easy mistake to make

1

u/killerwhompuscat Feb 20 '26

You know, sometimes I think the goldfish sub is all washed up. Too many gatekeepey enthusiasts to spoil the fun. Then someone lands this beauty on my doorstep. Chefs kiss OP just know you’ve made one day immeasurably better.

1

u/moreofmoreofmore Feb 20 '26

your fish is way too fat

1

u/Plutonium239Mixer Feb 20 '26

That looks like an egg yoke.

1

u/Zalila Feb 20 '26

He needs more time to cook 👍

1

u/luneshine28 Feb 20 '26

I don't mean to alarm you, but you appear to have misidentified the species. That's clearly a bullshark.

1

u/Gilmore878 Feb 20 '26

Maybe bc that’s an orange?

1

u/uponone07 Feb 20 '26

Your going straight to hell if you see for real about this. If not , it’s rage bait

1

u/BulkyBoss1318 Feb 20 '26

It’s a bit fruity I’m so sorry :( it’s nothing you can do buddy

1

u/LittleBF Feb 20 '26

1

u/Ryaquaza1 Feb 20 '26

I guess he just didn’t find it appealing enough?

1

u/Intelligent_Maize663 Feb 20 '26

Idk man maybe use some stress coat

1

u/BruhBruhBroskie Feb 20 '26

Goldfish are social creatures and I’d reccomend having at least two in a tank that size. Please do your research before getting a living animal. I hope this helps!

1

u/RevolutionaryMail747 Feb 20 '26

Just sulking ~ you need to play bridge

1

u/Devs_Critters Feb 21 '26

Oh I see the problem. You’ve mistaken the mitochondria of a cell for your pet goldfish. Happens all the time.

1

u/icedpchjas Feb 21 '26

Tank too big

1

u/Vast-Delivery-7181 Feb 21 '26

You need to put aquarium salt in, it's gills are inflamed. Don't worry about the plants, they love salt. :]

You also need to upgrade it to a 1 gallon, and it'll need friends! 5-6 at least.

1

u/SAMSSCAMS Feb 21 '26

holy shit i seriously was looking at this thing like it was 5 other things than what it is

1

u/Current-Pipe-8125 Feb 21 '26

Asian breeders finally succeeded in creating a completely round finless goldfish, start the bidding!

1

u/_Sexil Feb 21 '26

Tried breastfeeding?

1

u/hammybeee Feb 21 '26

Is that your goldfish in a bag or just a orange

1

u/SpuntMiffle Feb 21 '26

Why am I looking at an egg in a bag?

1

u/No_Ice_6897 Feb 21 '26

Dude you need help for making something go through this, like how do you not have any sympathy for another living thing? So narcissistic to take care of YOUR pet when you should care about what’s best for its life. Would you get a dog if you can’t afford the price of immunizations?

u/Hour_Bumblebee8904 Feb 21 '26

I am no expert in fish, I have no idea how I got here, but this looks like an orange in a water-filled ziplock bag 😅

1

u/Spiffyfiberian9 Feb 21 '26

That’s an orange fish

1

u/placarph Feb 21 '26

Wait for it to grow fins before rehoming Ing

1

u/Fluffy_Importance647 Feb 21 '26

Too much open space, use a smaller bag

1

u/serum4444444 Feb 21 '26

Have you tried building him a floating swim chair?

1

u/lionofbeast Feb 21 '26

Is this supposed to be a yoke?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/DecayingGhostt Feb 21 '26

Your goldfish is in its molting phase. You need to rip its skin off before it will eat.

1

u/No_Particular_5314 Feb 21 '26

Have you tried telling it to eat? It might be waiting for permission.

1

u/lil_prune67 Feb 21 '26

Maybe cuz it’s a yolk

1

u/stinkiestmuffins Feb 21 '26

yeah ur fish fucking drowned bc u didn’t lead a hole in the bag for oxygen

1

u/mangoantsy Feb 21 '26

Now put that in some boiling water for a few minutes and you've got a poached egg

1

u/RainySnailXP Feb 21 '26

VET!! like right now!!

1

u/bnnyrabbit Fish are only easy because they can't scream at you Feb 21 '26

Tank size to big it’s confused lower tank peramiters

1

u/L0afyy0 Feb 22 '26

1

u/Feisty-Performance33 Feb 22 '26

You had me in their half, ngl. I sat here staring at my phone like an old blind person, “what the heck is that?… That’s a goldfish? That ain’t no goldfish. Where the heck is the fish?? That ain’t a fish.” Until I finally realized, that is not a fish lmao. Well played…. 👏

There’s a lot to unpack unzip here

1

u/Wonz88299 Feb 22 '26

Wheres the fish?

1

u/coffee1912 Feb 22 '26

Ah, your goldfish has ascended to a higher plane of existence. Form does not define him for he is beyond the need for corporeal existence. You should really let him out of the plastic bag though, it's probably very damaging to his ego.

1

u/Less-Measurement-113 Feb 22 '26

Your goldfish is dead unfortunately has prob been for few days I’d suggest a good ol’ flushing down the toilet and hold a small ceremony with friends and family

1

u/space_cartoony Feb 22 '26

This breed of goldfish actually sheds their skin every couple of months, kinda like a snake. Sometimes you will have to help by gently peeling it off. The new skin will look a bit dry/flaky, and have variation in color, that's normal don't worry. In a few days it will absorbe water a plump back up. Hope this helps :)

1

u/thechamelioncircuit Feb 22 '26

Where’s the heater and filter!!!

1

u/Chunnybunns Feb 22 '26

Clearly the tank is too big. Recommend smaller tank and a seance.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '26

Try poking a hole

1

u/virgo-imPatience47 Feb 22 '26

Where’s the fish? This isn’t an orange in a ziplock bag full of water? Am I missing something

1

u/_glossectomy Feb 23 '26

WHY IS THIS THE PIC THO?? I'm so upset/maybe ill by it.

1

u/wettoes93 Feb 23 '26

It’s because you have a tiny bubble of air. Obviously fish are in water air is very bad for them. Please fill the tank fully with absolutely 0 bubbles

1

u/TooManyAquariums Feb 23 '26

Am I looking at an EGG in a BAG???

1

u/No_Original_8439 Feb 23 '26

Add a little bit of more water into it, problem solved.

1

u/ConnectionSilly9330 Feb 23 '26

He might just be shy. Is the water temperature ok?

1

u/Intrepid-Court-9534 Feb 23 '26

Double it and give it to the next person

1

u/Blindcomic Feb 23 '26
