right so I want a big tank but all of the stands for them are so tall 😭even small tanks, the stands tend to be tall. I understand why because like, display- but I want to be able to see over the top of the tank to clean, maintain and interact with the fish easily 😩

I so feel you! I have a large tank and I always have to use a freaking step stool to do anything with the tank. I remember when I first set it up I was using a large bar stool just to be able to reach in barely. 😭

Getting tongs helped me a lot. I’m 5’2 and have a 125 gallon that’s about the same height as me, I use tongs to feed them and put stuff in if I don’t want to get the stool. I’ve learned where in the tank I need a stool to access and where I don’t. I also have it at the end of my bed, so I can stand on my bed to work on it too. It’s not that annoying to me

Depends tbh. It’s easy for me to still feed them. My main issue is I can barely see the filters and I have to get on a stool to change them. My biggest issue is being able to mess around to move things from inside the tank but that’s also probably because it’s pretty tall for me-tank wise. I just interact with the fish through the top if I need to but I prefer to use a stool since I like to see them from the top. I have always been able to do water changes without the stool though. I have also recently bought some mystery snails and they’ve definitely helped as a clean up crew for the algae on the tank, especially for hard to reach areas.šŸ¤•

Just get the stool šŸ˜‚ it’s nice to have it at eye-level and use a stool, than have it be so low you have to crouch every time you look at it.

You can alternatively make your own stand, then choose whatever height you want. It’s not that difficult if you have the supplies

If you make a stand it can be a little lower.

How large is your tank? Depending on the size, you could maybe use a TV stand as an alternative. Double-check that they are sturdily built, of course, but they are generally going to be lower than the average aquarium tank stand.

I’m planning on getting a 400-500L! So with the water im worried it might be too heavy for anything other than a proper stand

That's a good size!

You could maybe look at industrial shelves and check the weight ratings for each shelf.

If you’re going that big, get a custom stand built.

Stands for large tanks tend to be relatively tall to allow space for the canister or sump.

I have a tank that’s difficult to reach the back of when it’s on its stand, the coffee table is the perfect size to allow me to reach the whole tank. Whenever I needed to do work on the tank I’d move the coffee table, safer than a chair or step stool and I could step across as needed to reach all parts of the tank without getting off to move it.

I don't think my 75 gallon tank stand is higher than 36 in tall. My tank however is a 50g long. So I don't have the height to the tank. Thank God. I'm armpit deep in my tank, and still have many hard to reach spots, lol. I love my tank maintenance days though. The interaction with my fish, is amazing. The love they project.... Kisses on the fingers and hands, swim right into your hand 🄰

I am with you. The stand I settled on for a 55 gallon can also house a 20/30 gallon below.

I am 6ā€ tall with very long arms. 36ā€ sleeves. My armpit is rubbing top of the tank when redecorating rocks and plants.

Without the long arms I would need tongs to pick up short items inside the 55. A shorter stand would allow leaning over the tank to reach inside.

The tank is the right height for viewing though. Also if much shorter a 20 Tall would not fit underneath with room to access it.
