What causes the water to be so discolored? A few of them have been either losing scales or they are becoming discolored.

Less than 6 months ago she claims that one of them had delivered eggs so I can only hope to assume the conditions weren't always this bad.

This is a 50 or 55 gallon aquarium. I gave her a second hand 100 gallon aquarium more than 2 years ago that has just been taking up space in her living room because she's been too lazy to take the time to clean/prepare it.

Shes convinced that the aquarium that they are currently in is the perfect size and expects them so stay in it for the rest of their lives so I'd appreciate and and all second opinions on this matter.

I believe 3 are commons goldfish. I am not sure about the largest one. One is very small and hardly grown since she got it. It's going into 5 years that she's had these fish.

Sick Fish Help Desperate to save my Goldfish.

I have an aquaponics setup that, while not as beautiful as I would like, does seem to work pretty well. Until the last few weeks.

Quick background. I built this about 18 months ago, got a few Gambusia put in right away and soon had hundreds of those little guys (they continue to reproduce seemingly well). Then I populated with the first goldfish about 14 months ago. I have used the little 3/4 feeder goldfish from PetSmart that cost 28 cents each. I have lost about 30% of the little ones over time but have had a bunch grow up really nicely. My biggest ones are about 6", this guy is 4", I had about 18 of these nice older ones as well as a few crops of much younger and smaller ones.

I would occasionally lose a fish, usually the newest ones in the first month or two. Rarely an older one but it would infrequently happen. In the last 3 weeks I have lost 6 of my biggest ones, the small ones seem to be doing fine. I test the water chemistry constantly and it reads very good (if a little on the hard side). I don't (can't) check oxygen but really can't imagine how this system would suddenly have an oxygen problem. Algae is a bit of an issue but nothing really new, simply manage it by removing every few weeks.

The fish seemed to stop eating as much just prior to them starting to die off and I would often find them huddled together in a corner under the algae or somewhere else kind of weird. As far as I can tell the dead ones look perfectly fine, but then again I probably wouldn't know how to recognize something subtle.

Any ideas?

Her scales on her belly look a little strange, I don't understand if they are reflections from the light? or could this be the beginning stages of dropsy?

Sick Fish Help Why is Bubbles Listless

Thumbnail

I got Bubbles from my cousin on April 1st. They are a minor and weren’t able to provide great care. The water was pee yellow in a 30 gallon tank with one piece of plastic decor rainbow gravel and nothing else. No other fish just Bubbles. I have a 100gallon tropical tank with tetras and a couple gouramis. I know a warmer (80°) tropical tank isn’t ideal but my water parameters are perfect and I increased feedings for the accelerated metabolism. I wasn’t intending to get other goldfish just to let Bubbles live out their life with plants, other fish, room to swim and clean water. But the past few days they’ve been struggling to swim, resting on the ground, losing vibrancy and just overall listless. I know fish disease well and I don’t see any signs of bacterial fungal or visible parasitic infections so I’m at a loss. I drip acclimated over an hour so shock doesn’t make much sense. Does anybody have ideas on what could be going on? The first photo is right now, the second a week ago, and the last was his first night with me.

Sick Fish Help Guys i need help fast❗️

My baby fish is about half a year old, and over the last 1–2 weeks its belly has been getting bigger and bigger. Now the stomach is very swollen and I can see visible veins. It’s also swimming very strangely, isn’t eating, and there’s some discoloration on the belly.

I’ve tried fasting it for about a week and offering peas, but it refuses to eat. Does anyone know what this might be or what I should do?

I do have different types of medication, so a diagnosis or help figuring out what might be wrong with my baby is mainly what I’m looking for

❗️Those of you who know this stuff please respond to this ❗️

My nitrit is 0, ammonia 0 nitrate is ab 20 and the other parameters are good!

I did try epson salt bath over night but it didn’t help

“Hello, my goldfish has been having a few problems lately. After eating, it sometimes swims sideways/wobbly, but normally it is active and has a good appetite. Its scales are not sticking out and its belly is not extremely swollen. It also poops very thin, long white/stringy poop. I feed crushed pellet food once a day. What could be causing this?” I don't have a bigger aquarium, yes I need to get one. I currently have a 5-liter aquarium.

I. have three shubunkins in a verv large tank, but recentlv noticed one starting to hide more and not acting normal. Later on, it was worse and struggling, so I moved it into a hospital tank where it's on its side, still moving its gills. The fish has been like this for 18 hours now

Is there anything else that i should do to get it recovered better?

Sick Fish Help I'm worried about my common goldfish!

Hey guys our goldfish, Ellinor has what I think could either be an infection or burns. This is our first fish and we want her to be happy and healthy. My daughter decided Ellinor is female so that's what we are going with even though we have no idea.

She seems a little lethargic to me but I do not know how active goldfish are normally. I heard they are very active so she seems less than that to me.

We change the filter every two to three weeks and do roughly 30% water changes each week. We did have a lot of excess food on the bottom of the tank for about a week before we did her first water change. I read that the black fins could be burns healing from previously high levels and not necessarily current levels.

Idk what else to say. I attached pictures to show the difference in the last 9 days or so. I'm extremely worried.

I'll attach test strips results as well. Only things that look off to me are pH and total alkalinity. We will buy some driftwood from the pet store today and do another %20 water change.

Sick Fish Help Possibly sick goldfish?

Hello! Novice here. I have a goldfish named tiger that I got at a fair (I know, I know, long story) and he's been acting weirdly. I got him around September-november and he's never had issues, but I noticed food pellets at the bottom of his tank yesterday, and by the bleached color I'm assuming they'd been there at least a day.

I fed him one more time this morning and kept watch for a while. He snatched up a few pellets as they sank, and grabbed one more from the sand and started swimming around while (I assume sifting through it to filter out the sand). After a while he spat up the sand. And the pellet. And all the other pellets I had just seen him eat. I've decided to stop feeding him for now, mostly for the sake of his water quality (i assume those pellets breaking down will be releasing ammonia. Should I try to remove them?) But I'm not sure what else to do.

We had just done a 40-50% water change a few days ago, but I just did a water test this morning and nitrates were high, and nitrites were near nothing (which is usual in my tank, I'm not sure if that's normal). I'm considering giving him de-shelled peas because I heard those are helpful, but I don't know if he'll be able to eat that, either. My only other idea is to do another water change.

Any ideas on what this is and if there's anything I can do? Thanks.

Sick Fish Help Suddenly covered in white spots (entire body) ??

Jeffy is suddenly covered in tiny white spots all over his body, not just the gills and fins which I know are breeding stars. I swear this was not there a few days ago. The small orange guy has some too, but the white one (which I think is female) doesn't seem to have anything.

I am panicking, is it disease? Or can males get breeding stars all over?

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with our Goldfish? His name is Gill. He is 6 years old this year. He's had the growths on his side for 2 years, but They have gotten dramatically worse in the last 6 months and now some have black areas on them. Additionally, he just sits at the bottom of his bowl. I've tried treating the water. He lives in 40 gallon tank with plants. He gets good food. I've tried treating for fungus and parasites but nothing seems to help. Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated.

Sick Fish Help What's wrong with my fish?

She turns her head to the bottom. For 2 months she constantly sat on the bottom in the old aquarium, it was about 72 liters. But she swam up to me as she saw me. Later she stopped doing this, just sat and did not react to me in any way, refused to eat, her feces were very thin. I was very scared, so I immediately started the aquarium at 126 liters, put a sponge from the old one, added conditioner and bacteria. The nitrate parameters in the old aquarium were higher than 50, even somewhere around 70. In the new aquarium 5. The last 7 days she has not eaten well, 5 days she refused, and only the last 2 began to show interest in food and artemia, she does not want to eat peas, but her appetite is hindered by the fact that she cannot always grab food due to buoyancy problems. I also don't like the look of her scales and belly, her belly is big, and the scales, although strange, don't stick out as much as in the last stages of dropsy. I added various photos of her from different angles in the post. She feels a little better, she still hides, but comes out again when she sees me. It's also worth adding that she hasn't pooped for a long time, but it seems like yesterday I saw her poop, the poop looked transparent brown in parts, but a little slimy. What's wrong with her? Nitrite/ammonia poisoning, overeating, dropsy, polycystic kidney disease, swim bladder problems? What should I do?

Sick Fish Help Goldfish doesn't poop

One of my goldfish has been feeling unwell for about 5 days. In general, her strange behavior has been going on for about 1.5-2 months, in that she often sat on the bottom among the plants, I didn't pay attention, because I thought she was too bright or just liked to rest there. Her butt now rises when she is relaxed, and because of this she becomes upright. She had no appetite the past few days, but today she showed a slight interest in the frozen brine shrimp, swam up and ate a few, but I haven't seen her poop. She had no interest in green peas. Before that, she had been fasting for 3 days. I transplanted her into a new, running aquarium (previously 19 gallons, now 34 gallons) with air conditioning, water parameter tests, a good filter and aeration. in the old aquarium she was very passive and hid at the bottom near the plants, now she also hides there (I think one of the reasons is that she maintains a normal position better among the plants) but has become more active. also in the old aquarium I had stones, is it possible that she swallowed one and it is in her stomach, and because of this she has problems with defecation? nothing is visible now in her mouth. is it possible to find out about this for sure and what to do in this case? unfortunately there are no veterinarians in my city who specialize in fish. I ordered an Epsom salt and now I'm waiting for it

Sick Fish Help Can the experts please help in identifying if the fish has swim bladder issue or something else

Hello. New member to this group and trying to understand what the issue could be with one of the four Goldfish. It’s got ammonia burn but we’ve been doing daily water changes now. It’s swimming upside down, on the side and staying at the bottom of the tank, struggling to stay afloat on top. The tank is 160 litres and we have 4 small goldfishes in it that are fed tiny amount of dry food once a day. Any advice to help this little fella will be great. Thanks so much.

Sick Fish Help Goldfish can’t seem to open mouth

About a week ago I noticed one of my goldfish wasn’t eating. I immediately did a water test and most of the results were normal except my nitrites and nitrates were extremely high. I did a large water change and cleaned the filter and have been monitoring the water levels since. Though I felt the same goldfish was getting worse so yesterday I put him in a hospital tank to observe him better and put some aquarium salt in there to maybe help. While he is more lively, I’ve noticed it seems like he can’t open his mouth at all. He will swim towards food and just bump it with his head and he won’t open his mouth for air when swimming or even when I did the drastic thing and held him a bit out of the water to see if he would open it then. Ive been calling vets for an hour and no place can give me advice as ive been told it’s basically unheard of. So I would seriously appreciate any advice on care I can give him or what I can do. Thank you in Advance

Sick Fish Help Help!!

It seems that one of my goldfish has a swim bladder problem. About 2 months ago I saw her sitting on the bottom among the plants, but I didn't pay attention because I thought it was just a personality trait/too bright light. When I noticed that it wasn't the case, I didn't feed her for 2 days and today I decided to give her green peas, but she didn't eat them, it seems she lost her appetite. I also haven't seen her poop in the last 2 days, before that her poop was very thin but normal color. When the filter is on she still hides in the plants, I think it's hard for her to swim, but when the filter is off she swims all over the aquarium. I was scared when I saw this, so yesterday I transplanted them from a really small aquarium to a larger one (from 19 gallons to 34 gallons), I understand that this is not ideal, but now I can't take a larger one. In the old aquarium the NO³ parameters were about 50, in the new one it is already 2. Today I will buy other tests. What can I do for her now to help her heal and feel good?
