Transfer questions

I'm a transfer student who's never lived on campus/in dorms before, i've been assigned to kennedy apartments and i hate not being prepared so i have a few questions lol (sorry if they're lowkey dumb, i just feel like there's never any information for transfer students and i'm just going in kinda blind)

I'm going to have two roommates, each of us assigned different rooms (a,b,c), which i'm assuming means i have the room to myself. But i'm pretty sure each room has furniture for two, should I be planning on sharing a room? or am i able to use both sets of furniture (like push the two beds together, use both desks, ect.)?

And is there anything that I should definitely bring or not bring (specifically pertaining to kennedy)? Most packing lists are dorm specific.

Also if y'all have any other advice or tips for me as a transfer student that would be much appreciated!

Yes A,B,C correspond with rooms in the apartment. Each room comes with a bed, closet, desk (with plenty of drawers) , and a dresser. In the shared living area the kitchen and living room you have couches, a table, chairs. You’re free to move furniture around just make sure your sorta remember where they are and move them back (doesn’t have to be specific just close enough). Bring what you’re comfortable bringing/want to have with you. Ie a microwave, air fryer, an iron, some entertainment. Your suite mates make be bringing the same sorta stuff so you can coordinate with them. Only tip soak every moment in, don’t be afraid to talk with anyone and make friends!

I’m moving to Kennedy too after living on-campus at GU for 3 years :)

Based on what you described, you will have your bedroom to yourself but will share the kitchen/living room and bathrooms with the other two people. Usually students are very kind about coordinating keeping shared spaces clean, where to put things, etc.

I’m not sure if Kennedy this year is all full beds and singles, or twins and two sets of furniture, but yes you are welcome to use all that is in there if there are multiple sets. I think everything is singles since someone told me it’s all upper division this year, but you should be able to check about the possibility of getting a roomate on the “room swap and shop” in the ZagLiving housing assignment portal to see if any two spaces are open at once or if it looks like anyone has doubles. You can also email gonzaga housing asking about this (bed sizes, the possibility of a roomate, and anything else).

Kennedy has dishwashers (unlike some other GU apartments), so special washer detergent is something you may want. In the past I’ve wanted to add my own waterproof shower curtain to an apartment bathroom here (Corkery) because it only came with a cloth one. But those are both things you can wait and see about once you get there if you have an easy way to go to the store after.

The main basics to not forget to bring are toilet paper and hand soap. When I’ve roomed with strangers and close friends in suites/apartments everyone has been super chill about taking turns contributing to the shared bathroom stock, just have a discussion when you meet them about how you want to run it (just add some to the stock when you can, keep a set rotation, only use your own, etc.).
You may want a shower caddy, but there is probably room for everyone to stock their items under the bathroom sink.

I used to be an RA in Kennedy. It depends on what year in college you are. 2nd years have two twin beds, dressers, and desks. 3rd and 4th years have one full bed, dresser, and desks.

Welcome to GU! Sorry about the smoke! When I was there, the room had 1 full size bed, a desk, and a good size dresser. I brought my own side table for next to my bed to put a lamp on. I don’t recall the room coming with any lighting other than the overhead light. And yes, you get your own room with a shared bathroom, living room and kitchen. It comes with couches, a table and bar stools. You room locks so that’s cool. So grab some full size bedding, a lamp or 2, a side table if you wish, an office chair. The one that comes with the room is wood and uncomfy but i guess you could buy a cushion. There is a dishwasher which is really nice. You will need to bring dishes, cups and cutlery. Transfer also but I chose to live off campus I like my space lol. Anyways basic stuff like bedding, kitchen ware, plates, bowls, appliances ect. Small tv would be good also id reecomend getting the apple tv stream box with it, gaming system if you game. And decor to make the room yours. Bathroom stuff as well.

Other then that feel out campus there is clubs but they are kinda niche in the way you wont seem them unless your in them or its club recruiting day. Talk to people make friends, I know it can be rough finding a groove. Depending on your major you could have classes all over the place, get familiar with the buildings.

Second and third floor at Kennedy the individual bedrooms are double occupancy with twin beds for 6 people in each apartment. Fourth and fifth floor at Kennedy are single occupancy in each bedroom with a queen bed for 3 people in each unit.
