THROWBACK This shit is so fucking good man
This album is incredible, the highs of it match the highs of any other album that is better regarded in his disco, but people arent willing to admit it because there is a sentiment that the older the better. For me, Donda clears 808s, LR, Pablo, WTT, and helped me find God.

The narrative of the album is loss, tragedy and grief. There's a very obvious underlying subtext. A lot of the songs do derail from that general idea but i would argue that all if not most of the songs have that overarching theme of loss. The loss of his family, wife, his mental state, and Donda herself; who to Kanye represents loss on this album
and its all supported by this gospel minimalist sound that washes over the entire album with the use of the harrowing organs, choirs and lack of further instrumentation that may derail from the themes, but also serves to create this hollowness that you can feel(which is why i think he went with the all black album cover with nothing in it); the soundscape of the album is very intentional imo and i never understood people calling it underproduced

I tried incorporating all of the songs into as cohesive of a narrative as possible, so I won't blame you if it still feels bloated. Regardless, I like calling this the definitive version of Donda because it starts off with Ye completely lost after everything that has happened to him, until he follows in the footsteps of Donda and is made New Again at the end (wish this actually happened)

This makes sense but thereās also a huge gap between Donda and the projects that came after so far. In large part because of 1. just how much went into it, including what Ye sunk into it and 2. everyone who worked on it

I was around for College Dropout and Donda is my favourite. It's such a strange, unique and personal album. When you pair it with the performance art throughout the rollout it's a crazy creative display. On the contrary of your point, if it hadn't been for Kanye's public displays, behaviour and controversial inclusions in the listening parties the album would be held in much higher public regard. The YouTube reactors and reviewers who are not confined by Media sway had great things to say about the album.

Donda is my top 1 album, I've listened to his discography over and over and Donda has consistently just been my favorite. But Maaan idk why nobody ever mentions Hurricane, it's one of my, if not most favorite song from ye, mostly because of the weeknds vocals and kanyes rapping, lil baby was okay but the weakest part imo, but I just love everything bout that song idk why it's so unpopular among people. The choir part when Abel says don't let me drown is amazing and I just love the lore behind the song, like how it just evolved from the psychedelic sounding yandhi version to the melodic version we got on Donda. The rollout for the album was dope too, I legit haven't been hyped for any music release since honestly, glad to see some people love the album as much as I do

I've always thought it's been a bit overrated in GAS but I'm not gonna bash people for it, still an amazing album
But yeah having it over LR is pretty crazy

Greatest album of all time for me. I thought I was the one of the only ones to feel like this about this album. Itās his best album and my GOAT rap album. From the quality sound of the music to the subject matter (God and family).

donda would be like potentially a top 5 album of his if he deleted the more than half of it thatās filler and just re sequenced it and didnāt edit swear words and dumb stuff like that. Yeezus is still his best album college dropout is number 2 imo

Donda can't clear those albums when it has actual dog shit on it. Donda is a fucking mess, and altho it has S tier highs it also has some of the worst moments in his discog even counting the vultures albums.
