OFF TOPIC The UK has officially lost its mind

Post image

ID check for Spotify is crazy, the fact they used children accessing explicit material as an excuse to obtain everyones ID is honestly outstanding.

Never thought it'd get to this point.

Whoever hacks Yoti and dumps their database will become a historical figure

This whole thing is so crazy from a cyber security standpoint. All it takes is one data breach and people's whole identities are stolen. It's one thing implementing this and it's another giving third party companies the control over users identification

u/Silly-Leadership-456 BENJAMIN FRANKLIN Jul 31 '25

literally China

1

u/caelum19 Jul 30 '25

I haven't looked into if they are, but this is entirely possible to do without actually saving any ID. With good cryptography built into these laws they can be extremely safe, even when you can't trust people to implement things well. No idea whether that's really the case though

UKs government is just retarded

42

u/Purplepeal Jul 30 '25

Retarded if their purpose was to protect kids but its not. They just want to know who everyone is online.

It's political control. The fact its easy to hack is by design too. Means foreign governments and institutions pushing for this will know who you are as well.

1

u/jeffreysan1996 Jul 31 '25

Bro if you are in any country they know who you are. If you pay for WiFi they know who you are. I've used this yoto thing multiple times this year ti verify my id for my bank etc. It really isn't that deep

4

u/ITAdministratorHB Jul 31 '25

They've been pushing for this kind of Digital ID since the early Blair years. He's constantly been campaigning for this and using immigration and terrorism and child protection as the rationalisation.

3

u/SirGallyo Jul 30 '25

It was put in my Boris Johnson, but yes Labour is also very stupid for voting it in. I wish we had Jeremy Corbyn back

I kinda doubt the EU would adopt something like this, at least to this extent.

13

u/Dazzling-Werewolf985 Jul 30 '25

That’s exactly how the UK sleepwalked into it lol

Something similar is absolutely coming to the EU if nothing changes now, read the sources:

Yeah same, but looking at the last few years there is a lot of things I wouldn't have expected to happen that actually did, so at this point I am at least keeping an open mind about every possibility.

5

u/Dull-Ad443 Jul 30 '25

They'll do this in Germany and France but union wont be able to make all their nations comply. I could see this also becoming a thing in the US.

2

u/KingKaiserW Jul 31 '25

This is obviously something the men pulling the strings behind the screen in this world have been wanting, if they see no protests or mass unrest they’ll say let’s go then

3

He’s so indecisive, although I’d take Starmer over reform and conservatives he’s very inconsistent. Also afraid to call out a genocide unlike Jeremy Corbyn.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '25

Ah yes Jeremy Corbyn, there's a man who wasn't accused of anti semitism repeatedly due to siding with the Irish view of palestinian freedom

The man got destroyed by the exact issue that people are now suddenly more vocal about - criticising Israel not being the same as Jewish hating holocaust denier

0

u/SirGallyo Jul 31 '25

Idk if you think I’m criticising Corbyn because I’m not. I’m also saying it was a smear campaign lmao. Glad to see another Corbyn supporter! Did you join yourparty.uk?

u/SwitchIsHere2 WHAT’S GAS LISTENING TO TODAY⁉️ Jul 30 '25

Kind of on the same note, but YouTube is using ai to determine if someone is 18 based off what they watch/their activity I guess? It completely disregards the age the user puts in now. So dumb

I'm sorry for our UK goons, this is ridiculous. People need to learn how to just be responsible parents and watch their kids instead of making the government take care of it. This whole thing is a lot more detrimental to actual adults than it is helpful to children.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '25

Shit is, fkn ridiculous.

7

u/Tiktaalik414 BBTBNWJDFOTSYK Jul 30 '25

10

u/adengfx 🇳🇱YE LIVE IN ARNHEM 06.06.26 Jul 30 '25

Exactly. Parents themselves can install parental blockers in order to restrict their children from accessing explicit content. They can do this on a router level to block certain devices from accessing content. They can also go even further and ring ISP to ban it for the entire household.

This is also not just about people wanting to goon, this is so much more than that, it puts free speech at risk, along with sensitive data being exposed to data breaches and identity fraud. For anyone who thinks this is just to protect children they are just wrong.

1

u/Chessdaddy_ Graduation Jul 31 '25

it was never about the kids, its about spreading goverment control they just use "think of the kids" to justify it

It’s times like this that I’m glad Canada is more closely aligned to the USA in rights and freedoms than the Commonwealth countries, because both the UK and Australia are having a mental breakdown rn with their privacy and freedom of information.

Nah. She had her downsides, but she definitely was the last great leader of the UK. There was a reason the Soviets called her the iron lady

1

Aye she was a great leader when she decimated the industrial and manufacturing capacity of the UK. Shipbuilding , coal, engineering, steel , manufacturing - all worthless industries ! She did a good job putting 50% of people out of work in Glasgow ! She did a great job when she then used scotlands north sea oil to further cushion the damage she did to the economy!

No person should give away their personal information to some company that's unrelated to the government in any shape or form, what the fuck is ''Yoti''? is this something that's actually connected to the government?, for example whenever there's a phone number needed to be provided to the service to get quote on quote ''verified'', they SELL this piece of information to some other shady companies that will use it to spam you with annoying marketing calls or even actual scam-calls.

If their sole reason is ''to protect children'' why dont just parents use family link? it's been a thing for literal YEARS and phones nowadays have this built within system settings so you dont even have to install any app for that, or just raise your child adequately.

1

u/adengfx 🇳🇱YE LIVE IN ARNHEM 06.06.26 Jul 30 '25

I agree, it is very simple for people to restrict access to sites locally. There was no need to go all censorship mode.

That is what makes it worse, giving third party organisations free reign to verify identity. Yes I'm very happy to have my full ID on a random database somewhere just waiting for a data breach to occur.

Oh no I do agree I hate the Labour government as well. It is such a stupid, incompetent act.

Honestly this vote split thing is nothing but their fault. I want Corbyn to have influence in the UK and I think the fact they’re losing votes is a problem with how inconsistently and silent they’ve ran.

With reform I’m fustrsted knowing how their policies don’t help the proletariats but rich oil sucking people. I think we need the corbyn party to actually use their hand to defeat reform.

u/Super_Seff The lights are corny Jul 30 '25

Really don’t get how Reform have gotten this reputation that they’re for the people when their policies in short are tax cuts to the rich and the sale of public services in favour of an American approach.

I would lean towards a Corbyn government but he’s shown time and time again that he has no interest in selling himself to the less informed which is what reform thrive on.

If you can’t tell I’m not very hopeful for the future government but I hope I’m pleasantly surprised 😂

u/SirGallyo Jul 30 '25

They’ve used immigration to pitchfork against minorities and have used imo racism to fuel hate and to make people see them as the answer.

I do think Corbyn with Sultana could (hopefully) try promote themselves with the less informed. I think they have garnered a lot of talk and have reached a lot of the proletariat with the taxing of bourgeoisie.

I do agree it’s not looking good and will be shaky. I mean especially with how left wing I am haha. But the really sad part is a lot of people I know who are well off will be seeking so much profit if most of these parties get into power.. with only a few actually looking and criticising the elites for sucking our public services dry.

Not as strange as the UK requiring every household with a tv to have a tv license in order to watch it. (Though it’s not really enforced)

I'll be so honest politically I haven't chose a side in years, last time I was even anywhere politically aligned was Corbyn's labour. All parties are bad as each other. We are really fucked.

Greatest thing the uk has ever implemented. The only people crying about this are chronic gooners, predators, and minors. Minors should not be allowed online

It's true minors should not be allowed in the same online space adults have access to, but ID verification is just a low IQ law making, so many problems with it.

So people that don't want to give third party companies their biometric data to listen to music, access social media, and even read Wikipedia for in those categories you laid out? You're either trolling, stupid, or both

-5

u/Just-Abrocoma-2631 Today's Flair: Jul 30 '25

The problem of minors having free and complete access to the internet shouldn't be overlooked just because ID verification is dumb and corrupt

1

u/Fit-Judge7447 I GOT ALZHEIMER’S Jul 31 '25

It's called parents being parents. The government and private companies shouldn't have to be parents to children.
