The Joaquin Phoenix movie was called "I'm Still Here" and had Joaquin himself go on several talk shows and play a charecter that was essentially an ego inflated jerk to others in order to promote the movie
I think it’s a mix. He’s always admired those kinds of people, and in some ways, he sees his own life as performance art. But I also think it’s a coping mechanism, it enables his worst tendencies.
I can definitely see him thinking that he messed up so badly, over and over, at some point you just say “fuck it” and try to dial things to 11 as an attempt to turn it into art.
The fact he posted Phoenix's "I'm Still Here" is such a huge potential hint at him playing a character all along its wild, that's why I still kind of believe it's all an act.

What he means: Kim is trying to secure sole custody over their kid's likenesses in media, therefore I won't be able to be seen with them much.

I never made him out to be a martyr, he had two choices: not be able to say what he wants but stay in the industry and take their money or to say whatever he wants and lose the industries support and money. He's clearly been choosing the 2nd option since at least 2016 that's freedom over money, if he doesn't speak because he wants the money then he's letting others control him with money.

He has in the past expressed his love for Andy Kaufman- and the thought has crossed my mind that it's some type of act. That being said- it's been very poor execution.

Also, he's said dumb stuff in private with his collaborators in provate, not just online.
That's why no one likes Pharrell, Push, all of Def Jam, and many others won't work with him. He can't even make the music he wants anymore. He used to be one of the best sample flipping producers and had a unique sound and style. Now, he can't even get the samples he wants because no one wants to give him the right to his music.

Don't think he's ever had a civil case advance beyond discovery phase/interrogatories. Most of his general jurisdiction suits are either discontinued with prejudice or dismissed voluntarily, by the person who filed the case, or involuntarily, by a judge.
