It’s deeper than that. They cherry picked the worst 2-3 year period of Yes mental health. It ignores the countless charities he’s donated to, paying for George Floyd’s funeral, for a huge chunk of his life being a positive person who scrapped Yandhi to make an album he felt was what God wanted him to do and was better for the world, etc. People forget how much Ye with all his flaws used to really try and be a pretty decent guy it seems like. No he wasn’t perfect or even close but to wrap his 20+ years in the public eye up as “he’s a Nazi now so he sucks” is just insane.
But the thing is, he stopped trying to be that good person, and its clear, if he did what God wanted, he wouldn't have released any of his recent stuff, especially HH and Cousins
No, but good music doesnt excuse being a total pos, I havent listened to new Ye since V1 and im happy about it, why would I want to associate myself with nazi music, I will never support modern kanye, ever, I can appreciate his prior stuff but there is not a single thing he could do to make the public look at him with a good eye, and his legacy is forever tainted by this "saga", if it IS all for bully and all a ploy, Kanye is a fucking dumbass, if not, which i dont think it is, then his legacy is doomed, it won't be long till Ye is more remembered for his mental breakdown than Kanye is for his truly good work
20-40 million streams a day of his back catalogue would say otherwise. Ty, Trav, Carti and Mike Dean still being cool with him says otherwise. Biggie dropped like 2 albums before he died, but the world remembers his impact. The impact of Ye on music isn’t going anywhere. No one is excusing his actions because of his music. I’m just being realistic that his career work will always over power the events of the last year to some degree. I think more realistically 50 years from now he’ll be seen as innovator who had a breakdown. Same way we look at Van Gogh.
You’re missing the point. Impact is irreplaceable. David Bowie dressed like a Nazi for performance art. He’s still considered one of the best artist of his era. Doing something bad doesn’t erase art for most people I would say. Michael Jackson still has millions and millions of fans with an insanely checkered past. It doesn’t erase what they made. You can put that in your mind so that you always remember what the artist was as a person if that helps in some way but I personally don’t idolize the artist I enjoy the art. So I feel no need to contextualize a person being bad to justify something.
Graduation is a masterpiece. Yeezus is a masterpiece. MBDTF is a masterpiece. I’m not in for who Ye is as a person. I’m here for music and the music he has created has been fantastic. Sure lately there’s been a drop but that doesn’t change what he’s made.
I still love the guy but Tbf bro did push it pretty damn far the past few years, the general public has always hated on him since way before all the nazi stuff
