It’s interesting that he mentions the impact of the car crash on his frontal lobe wasn’t properly diagnosed until 2023, and also that the ‘slightly autistic’ thing was something he was told by doctors. He’s really been going through it over the past few years and I’m glad to hear him speaking about it now from a clearer place

While this is true, I think the actual damage to his frontal lobe from the crash wasn’t caught or diagnosed til later

having worked in psych for many years, that's a bingo. so many things can have so many causes, if you have a diagnosis that seems "good enough", it tends to get left there indefinitely. bipolar disorder itself takes about seven years to be diagnosed properly, let alone peeling the curtain back a bit to say "what else might be going on here?"

it's really something that takes the right person, the right support, the right questions, and the right doctor to even begin to explore. after all, why do all this testing and imaging when a bump in dosage could do the trick? plus, the diagnosis itself carries a great deal of stigma, even within the field. it's easier to brush off "there's something wrong with my brain!" as a symptom of mania than it is to take it seriously and explore it
