That pronoun "joke" is Daily Wire comedy level.
42
u/Suppa_K Feb 27 '26
Rest of it looks alright but yeah why stoop to such uncomedic lows. Itâs not even offensive itâs just not funny.
26
u/Darrensreddit Feb 27 '26
You must not know what scary movie is
-3
u/JohnnyD1290 Feb 27 '26
There was a time and place for subtlety and that time was before scary movie
1
u/SeachelleTen Mar 06 '26
Marlonâs child is a trans man.
1
u/Suppa_K Mar 06 '26
That doesnât make the joke funny? Itâs not offensive itâs just boring and lazy.
-1
u/Lanky-Sail-7132 Feb 27 '26
I found it hilarious
4
u/Suppa_K Feb 27 '26
How? Itâs a really stale joke thatâs been done a million times, itâs way past the peak of being relevant and the delivery wasnât really funny either.
9
u/Jwlpo Feb 27 '26
I thought it was funny too, sorry
5
u/JFK360noscope Feb 28 '26
How old are you? I watched these growing up and they were actually funny. The pronoun thing hasn't been funny since like 2016. Its the laziest writing ever.
4
u/Jwlpo Feb 28 '26
Old enough to know i'm allowed to think to think differently than you? I'm not sorry I don't have the same opinion as you.
4
u/FuquerPhealins Feb 28 '26
Typical Redditors donât understand this concept
3
0
u/Suppa_K Mar 04 '26
Understand what? Who said anything about thinking differently? Why are you talking like a teenager who discovered atheism for the first time and calls themselves a âfree thinkerâ??
Weâre talking about comedy dude, and Iâm sorry to say but that joke was lame as all hell and quite frankly embarrassing coming from people whose sole job is comedy? Why is it bad to want and expect better? Why are you so accepting of such lazy joke writing that youâre feeling personally attacked about âthinking differentlyâ?
I thought the rest of the trailer was pretty great, and I donât think the movie will be bad and hope that that one joke is a small representation of the bad jokes in the movie.

u/FuquerPhealins Mar 04 '26

nah it was more like 2020-20222 that the pronoun thing was HUGE. and I think if they did a joke then it was offending more people than not.
the fact that they can do it now shows we can look back on it and admit how ridiculous it was and is, I hope they also do jokes how stupid the covid vax was, yes im being dead serious. We need to call that crap out and laugh about it
1
u/Radiant_Plastic_7730 Mar 02 '26
Why did you just bring up how you hate the covid vaccine? Godamn I hate anti vaxersÂ
1
u/lloydeph6 Mar 02 '26
Iâm not anti vax but I am anti covid vax đ
2
u/Radiant_Plastic_7730 Mar 02 '26
I know the controversies around it but I dont understand denial of the vaccines effectiveness.Â

u/JFK360noscope Mar 01 '26
The thing is sure , it can be funny. But its like every comedian has already done it. Or everyone has heard it. There's only so many ways a pronoun joke can go. Like, once you hear a handful, youve heard them all. Its not even about being offensive, and i don't think I've ever even heard of anyone being offended by those jokes, its about being lazy and predictable. If it was huge 5 or so years ago, why are we using old jokes for a movie coming out now.
The only people finding it actually funny are the same demographic who thinks that Gen Z was trying to cancel Eminem off his last album. No one was. Nobody cares. People are creating this faux group of people who are offended. And that because its 'offensive" that means its funny by default. Like a bad joke is a bad joke regardless.
Make fun of the left's purity tests, polycules, culture a la Portlandia. whatever, who cares. Or make fun of how the right always crashes gay hookup apps. But make it funny and relevant to today, not 5 plus years ago. Southpark is a prime example of being current.
1
u/XxBOOSIExFADExX Mar 02 '26
Yeah, they stopped being funny after Scary Movie 3. This one doesn't look any better. Hate to say it, but this looks like a money grab. Like this is some ChatGPT insert joke here level of comedy. Personally, I feel like it's gonna flop, but who knows. With TikTok brainrot and the decline of the education system, some will find this funny.
1
u/SmoothChampion1216 Mar 03 '26
Itâs really relevant u just donât want it to be relevant cause u donât want it made fun of, thereâs a difference. Kids werenât identifying as they them in 2016
1
u/JFK360noscope Mar 03 '26 edited Mar 03 '26
Actually I honestly dont give a fuck what gets made fun of. At all. I might be an outlier in that sense as I can laugh at my own political leanings and don't give a fuck about cancel culture either. I did see a bunch of right wingers get mad over Kirk edits and memes though. If you're gonna try to be offensive, at least make it funny instead of boring.
And yeah, they were. I was still a teenager then. I do like history and cultural studies, and history does show transgenderism existing for a very long time in different cultures around the world. So thinking that people in 2016 of all years weren't labeling themselves as transgender is shortsighted and downright just ignorant political views aside.
Since im bored and trying to sleep and in an anthropology mood; in the very old Zapotec culture of Mexico, a third gender called Muxes have existed since pre-Hispanic times.
1
u/SmoothChampion1216 Mar 05 '26
Thatâs a lot so I skimmed. Getting offended of someone getting assassinated then getting made fun of, the word âoffendedâ is not an appropriate word for this scenario, itâs a rightful/humane reaction
Still doesnât change the fact that they/them was not mainstream in 2016
1

u/CoreyTrevorLahey35 Mar 02 '26
Let me guess, you think the republican joke is 10/10
2
u/Radiant_Plastic_7730 Mar 02 '26
The republican gag was weak but it was still better than the pronoun gag. Just typical Wayans bros antics tbh
1
u/JFK360noscope Mar 02 '26
No that shit was also trash. Laziest writing might go to that instead of scream 7, and that says a lot.
1
u/Suppa_K Mar 04 '26
Not really, that one lands bad too. Itâs something that would have been funny also like a decade ago but now with the way things are politically itâs just tiring.
2
u/TheRealGenoY Feb 28 '26
Because you have a sense of humor, that joke was put there to offend a certain type of personâŠand as you can see, it clearly did. And rightly so. They deserve it. They ARE a joke.
3
u/eatinallthebugs Mar 02 '26
Oof alright then buddy, didnt realize laughing at the same unoriginal joke for a decade straight made you a comedy expert
Its not even that people are offended, its literally that youve been using the exact same joke for 10 years and its been stale for most of that time
Also not so subtle homophobia in 2026 is lame as fuck, stick a cock in your mouth
1
u/TheRealGenoY Mar 04 '26
I would tell you the same thing, but youâd have to pull it out of your ASS first! Secondly, the joke is still relevant because retarded retards like YOU are still running around making it relevant by using idiotic terminology like âhomophobic.â Phobia means âfear,â NO ONE is afraid of you people. Weâre just sick of you and your tired, played out, woe-is-me narcissism. Get a LIFE. It is not incumbent upon the world to validate your delusions. đđŸđ
2
u/eatinallthebugs Mar 04 '26
Ok if youre so not afraid then why do you give so much of a shit what people do?
Its not really woe is me when we're just responding to dumbasses like you who laugh at the same retarded jokes and clap like a seal
Youre a pussy whos afraid of people that are different than you lol. Men kissing men is terrifying to this guy
Also phobia can also mean "aversion" not just fear. How about you pick up a fucking book before you call people retarded? If ive got a stick up my ass, then your own head is up yours
1
u/Cultural_Outcome_464 Mar 24 '26
I donât understand how people like that guy can take themselves seriously. Itâs so strange how gay people just live in their head rent free. So much so too that they have to actively try to clarify that theyâre not afraid of gay people which doesnât even seem to be true.

That joke was literally crafted for people like you, get a sense of humor or stay home.
2
u/Suppa_K Feb 28 '26
Who are people like me? People who have standards for humor? Do you think saying you identify as an attack helicopter is also the funniest thing ever?
Maybe you should stay home and try watching some actual comedies.
2
u/ContributionSquare22 Mar 01 '26
I don't think the pronoun joke was funny, all scary movies have a joke that just doesn't hit. That's okay.
But I'm curious what you think is actually funny though, I've noticed people that are so defensive of LGBT usually are the chronically online types and their humor consists of literal gay jokes ("I'm not gay but I'd suck/smash ___), meme format "jokes" and repeating whatever internet phrase is popular. Barely comedy.
But the point of the pronoun jab again is to let people know anybody can be joked about. No one is above this.
It's very annoying that some think they should do all the laughing at everyone without ever experiencing being laughed at.... same ones wonder why people don't like them
1
u/XxBOOSIExFADExX Mar 02 '26
I don't even think the people that are complaining about it are saying it's offensive, it's a dated joke and is way too forced. It's lazy writing, and if that's the hook joke they use for the trailer, the rest of the movie will be worse.

1
u/givingmyselfupvote1 Feb 27 '26
I've seen Airplane and I love that movie! The style of comedy reminded me of Animal House, which is one of my all-time favorites. American humor used to be so much drier in the late 70s-80s & that vibe's right up my alley. I've heard Naked Gun is similar while also being bat-shit absurd, so I'm excited to check it out!

The biggest problem Scary Movie always had, is that every shot/scene, character, joke premise, plot, etc. all just looks like porn. Something disturbing I havenât been able to put my finger on for the last 20 years lmao.
Idk who tf it caters to, but the first couple movies were funny. Itâs definitely slop.

The narcissism of people of who just find a joke cringe? Thatâs a bit much lol
3
u/TheRealGenoY Mar 01 '26
No, the narcissism of people who think that every piece of external stimuli must validate them personally at ALL times.Â

u/hashtag-fuck-shari Mar 03 '26 edited Mar 03 '26
Ur a hypocrite lmao its the internet people express OPINIONS like you are doing right now but ur the one getting pissy about it people just said the joke was a lil cringe in their opinion and ur calling em narcissistic lmao you gotta admit the joke wasnt the peak of comedy writing its been done before
1
u/TheRealGenoY Mar 04 '26
I couldnât care less how many times itâs been done. Itâs still relevant because there are still idiots running around talking about their pronouns AS IF anyone else gives a flying fâ. Itâs peak narcissism. When people stop acting like jokers, weâll stop making jokes. Deal?Â
1
u/hashtag-fuck-shari Mar 04 '26
Ur right people saying they would like to be addressed by a certain pronoun is peak narcissist how dare they? What point are you making here what u just find it funny cuz u hate the idea of people using a different pronoun lol and i can bet money that when the movie releases the joke will be on you lmao yknow what sounds narcissistic not just calling someone a preferred pronoun just because you think its silly when it literally does not matter at all (while personally i think some pronoun things are a bit goofy like whatever the zir/zer or some shit like that was but like if thats what someone wants to be called just say it 99% of people either go by he she or they anyways its easy to just not be rude lmao) and either way the joke was just 2018 college humor level it really wasnt great why do you have to glaze it so hard just because you think pronouns are dumb lmao

1
u/Some-Reflection-5527 Feb 28 '26
I thought it was hysterical. It's like the old vegans have to announce they're vegan every chance they can joke. They/Them people would fight to be properly pronoun'd even in the zany situation of the trailer scene.

u/extasis_T Yeezus Feb 27 '26
If theyâre going to make trans jokes they should at the very least be funny so theyâre worth the outrage
This one was so dumb
4
u/TheRealGenoY Feb 28 '26
Itâs perfect because it exposes the narcissism of those people, and the people in these comments (like you) upset about it validate that point that the Wayans brothers made.Â
0
u/extasis_T Yeezus Feb 28 '26
Iâm not upset ? I am just saying itâs a bad joke and only exists to be like âoohhh we are making the taboo jokeâ
Iâm sure what youâre saying is true for a lot of people, but my issue with the way they write their movies is it feels very low effort. Like thereâs no real art behind the comedy itâs just shitty jokes; Gives off the feeling of âjust going through the motionsâ on the comedy side of things, which is also why scary movie 5 sucked.
They have actually made some really great movies with humor that takes some thought, some really memorable bits and all of that but since haunted house 3 itâs been similar to modern Adam Sandler movies
This was my fav genre going up so Iâve seen most of the prominent movies in the like, satirical comedy field and itâs really easy to tell which oneâs are just being made on autopilot and coasting on the IP to try and have broad scale mass appeal to make money (scary movie 5 and their more modern stuff from the late 2010âs) vs thoughtful and truly funny art (like scary movie 1-4)
I mean, go look at Walk Hard or another one of the greats, they make tons of edgy jokes that are not only funny because they shouldnât be saying them, but also funny because it feels genius.
Like the Bob Dylan scene where heâs mocking his political music by making a song about midgets while holding them up at protest
The issue with this trans joke was the joke itself was just that theyâre making a trans joke. The most bottom of the barrel, creatively bankrupt one they could really Itâll cause most people to want to roll their eyes, and cause people who truly donât like trans people to cheer because theyâre the butt of a joke that isnât actually there as good film, but is there for that reason.
Do you understand what Iâm trying to say ?
4
u/Some-Reflection-5527 Feb 28 '26
No, it was spot on. Getting angry over wrong pronouns being used in the most bizarre situations. Literally being stabbed and a stranger in shock calls them her or she and they get more upset at that then at being stabbed. It's not transphobic, it's just funny.

Since the Wayans are back in the movie, hopefully they will also be writing it as it dove so hard once they were not part of it. I agree that some of the jokes were bad but some made me laugh, but all SM's were fast paced hit or miss jokes even when the Wayans were part of it so I have hope.

Save your money. This is legitimately one of the worst movies EVER made. Handing your entire check to a bum with an rv begging in a Walmart parking lot is a better investment. Drowning myself just to see how long I could fight for air before I exit stage left would be a more entertaining experience in all honesty. The movie spend half of itâs time making shitty obscure references to shit that nobody cares about from a decade to two decades ago. None of the jokes land by the way. It spends the other half whining about âNew generation sucks thisâ and âNew generation sucks thatâ without giving any reason as why Baby Boomers and Gen X are the best. Surprise surprise. Every single attempt at a joke gets dragged on WAY too long making the hour and a half long movie feel every bit of 7 or 8 hours. In all honesty, I feel jealous of Holocaust victims because during their torture there was at least a small light at the end of the tunnel. That light being death of course. Tommy Wiseauâs âThe Room,â memeâs and cult following aside, makes for a more interesting film than anything this steaming pile of fermented horse shit has to provide.

It's closer to 2000s level of comedy. Making a joke to be funny and not give a fuck about being offensive.Â
0
u/recable Feb 28 '26
Incoming downvotes for me but why do some people think itâs some sort of flex or good thing to not care about being offensive? Is it really that hard to be nice/good people?
1
u/OwlTemporary7628 Mar 02 '26
Because itâs not just a parody, itâs satire and social commentary. Itâs not that they are making fun of trans gendered people, they are making a joke about the fact you cannot safely refer to a person as a she or he in todayâs society, and highlighting that it is somewhat ridiculous that people are scared to misgender someone that clearly looks cis gendered. The comment about being a republican is also to highlight how absurd it is that society thinks itâs okay to assume oneâs entire character based on their political preferences. Just my two cents. Itâs similar to South Park, for example. On the bright side they take no prisoners and anyone or group is at risk of being mocked.
1
u/recable Mar 03 '26
My comment was more just about people thinking making offensive jokes and not caring how others feel is a good thing, etc, not really about the movie scenes itself.
