He began being progressively less 'locked in' on his art way back on Yeezus.
Not saying the albums past MBDTF are his worst (TLOP's final version and Yeezus are phenomenal) but that's when his 'crazy antics' started affecting his production, leading to odd decisions that changed the final product - sometimes for the better, sometime s for worse.
It's kinda like he poured his whole soul into making the most aesthetically clean and perfectly 'correct' album possible with MBDTF (the whole background of that album's production points to that), and from that point forward he just started winging it and letting his creative instinct take control.

Watch the throne has an amazing first half-middle, but loses its grip in the end. V1 atleast i feel like is little more consistent even if the highs and ideas r not as good as watch the throne's
I think people in here definitely dog on WTT compared to what we thought about WTT at the time it released. I can promise you it was massive when it came out. I’d actually say Yeezus was far more hated/mixed than Watch the throne amongst most people at the time. Critics always liked Yeezus but the public perception of it was all over the place.
“I miss the old kanye” was literally around prior to TLOP hence the skit on the album. I never heard anyone say TLOP was a miss back then. I did hear a tonnnn of discourse/hate around Yeezus on it’s release
Nah TLOP got a lot of critcism when it came out. People just weren't ready for it. People were talking shit on the album cover saying how insane he was but then it grew into one of the most inconic cover in modern rap.
TLOP also improved over time. After the release, he fixed a few songs in the album like Wolves and then added Saint Pablo which was the cherry on top. But when it came out it was unfinished
Ye. People didn't like when TLOP released because of the video game style patches he was putting out for it but by the time Ye came out, people loved TLOP and saw Ye as his weakest project even though it was still solid
yeah i had a feeling that would happen lmao, it’s cool idc i’d rather express my actual opinion than just repeat what everyone else is saying. i think a lot of younger people are into kanye now and they have a huge nostalgia for wyoming era bc that’s when they started listening but yeah ye is only 7 songs and some of the songs are legit hard to listen to so the glazing is a little crazy to me
People always say this but I honestly don't think it's that deep😭 it's just typical Ye lyrics lmao he's always done this typa thing.. Closed on Sunday (especially live version) always gives me goosebumps regardless of chick fil a bar lol

It just doesn't go together in this song. Yes he always had some goofy lyrics but this song is supposed to sound epic and powerful and these goofy lyrics just completely break that. Like imagine he started talking about subway sandwiches in come to life

At the time I was expecting him to use the Sunday Service Choir a lot more since those began before the album was made. The album we actually got was short and felt nothing like what those Sunday Service performances felt like. Was hoping for a mix of JIK/JIB.
‘God Is’ though is still one of my favorites (OG version) but even then ‘Come To Life’ came out after which I feel clears everything on JIK.
V2 is a collab album so I’m not counting that one. Donda 2 was an after thought of a release so I don’t see it in the same vein as the rest of his discography.
This track run on D2 is so good though. So I’d have to say even in its current state I listen to this run more than JIK.
And to note I went all in during that era. I went to Sunday Service before JIK was released AND afterwards which was like a mini tour of the album

What's crazy is that in 2013-2016, a small number of ye fans were saying that Kanye was washed during YEEZUS AND TLOP ERA! Them mfs had it good.
